Brent Burns Back at Practice on Tuesday

Colorado Avalanche defenseman Brent Burns (undisclosed) took part fully in Tuesday's practice, Brennan Vogt of Hockey Mountain High reports. The veteran skipped practice on Saturday and sat out both of the team's preseason games against the Utah Mammoth on Sunday. Burns, who turned 40 in March, is gearing up for his 22nd NHL season. Although he's past his prime, Burns still contributed well with the Carolina Hurricanes last season, earning 29 points (six goals, 23 assists) and blocking 98 shots in 82 games. Impressively, Burns holds the fourth-longest ironman streak in NHL history, with 925 consecutive regular-season appearances. He hasn't missed a game since November 2013.

Brent Burns Completes Busy Night with an Assist

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns did a little bit of everything in Monday's 3-0 victory over the Florida Panthers, finishing with one assist, two shots on goal, one block, one hit, and two penalty minutes. Facing elimination on the road, the Hurricanes relied heavily on their top-four group at the back, and Burns ended up logging nearly 25 minutes of action (24:45). On the offensive end, his efforts were rewarded with 1:45 remaining in regulation, as Burns collected his assist on an empty-net goal by Jordan Staal. The veteran blue-liner now has assists in back-to-back games. Burns is far from the scoring machine he used to be, but he has helped out a little on offense in the playoffs, posting one goal and four assists in 14 games. In the defensive zone, he has logged 17 blocks.

Brent Burns Has Three-Point Outing Against Washington

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns collected three points as the team coasted past Washington 6-2 on Friday. Burns had two goals and one assist, with his first tally sparking a comeback from a 2-0 deficit. The veteran notched two of his points with the man advantage. Burns joined Ron Francis and Dave Keon as the only players in franchise history to register multiple three-point games at age 38 or older. In one of the final games of 2023, Burns had three assists versus Montreal. His form isn't quite what it used to be anymore, but Burns is still capable of doing damage on the offensive end, and he's currently in the midst of his best spell of the season. Nine of Burns' 23 points have come in his last five appearances.

Brent Burns Extends Point Streak In 1,300th Game

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns marked his 1,300th regular-season outing with an assist against Boston on Sunday and it took his point streak to five games. He combined with Martin Necas on the power play to set up Paul Stastny for the game-winning goal in a 4-1 victory. Burns will now look to post his longest point streak as a Carolina man against long-time rivals, the Kings on Tuesday. It's been a good debut campaign in Raleigh for the veteran defenseman, with him on eight goals and 34 points through 49 games. 15 of his points have come on the power play, and Burns has recorded 154 shots on goal with 28 hits and 58 blocks.

Brent Burns Collects Two Assists Friday

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Brent Burns tallied two assists Friday in a 4-0 victory over the Florida Panthers. Burns added a shot on goal and blocked one shot in the Hurricanes win. The Barrie, Ontario, native has produced four assists in the last four contests. Burns seems to be the right fit in Carolina, as he averages 23:45 minutes of ice time per game. He will factor into the Hurricanes offensive charge all season, as he did in San Jose.

Brent Burns Scores A Goal On Thursday

San Jose defenseman Brent Burns just does not score as many goals as he used to. Burns delivered one on Thursday as the Sharks outlasted the Philadelphia Flyers in overtime. The tally by the defenseman was just his third on the season in 32 games. Even with the goal, Burns is still just shooting at a rate of 3.5%. The defenseman has not shot this poorly since his final year in Minnesota (2010). Father Time may be soon catching up to the almost 37-year old blueliner but that shot is still fast. One has to think a few more goals and points are to come in 2022.

Brent Burns Had Long Night in San Jose Home Defeat

San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns had a rough night against Washington on Saturday night. Burns was on the ice for three of the four goals that the Capitals scored. From the other end of the ice, he fired three shots on goal in 25:50 of ice time. That led all skaters on Saturday night. San Jose, among their six defensemen blocked just one shot. None were by Burns who crucially missed the assignment on Sheary's second goal. It was just one of those rough nights. Period.

Brent Burns Collects Another Assist

San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns picked up his fourth assist of the season in Sunday's 4-3 loss to the Bruins, combining with Logan Couture to get Timo Meier on the scoreboard. He logged nearly 28 minutes of action and had a busy outing with three shots and four blocks. Burns had a shocker last season with 29 points in 56 games, leaving many fantasy managers disappointed. The early signs this season are positive, although San Jose's 4-1-0 start looks like an overachievement and there could be tougher times coming real soon for Burns and his teammates.

Brent Burns Ends Slump With Fourth Goal Of The Year

San Jose Sharks defenseman Brent Burns put a stop to a five-game point drought on Monday, needing only 45 seconds to open the scoring in a 6-2 loss to Minnesota. Timo Meier and Rudolfs Balcers produced the assists on the play, with Logan Couture later tallying his 10th goal of the season. Burns had a huge down year in 2019-20 and sadly, he hasn't done particularly well this season either with eight points in 17 games and a minus-seven rating. He's playing a massive 27:28 a night but has actually picked up points in only five outings.
