Drew Helleson Won't Play Thursday

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Drew Helleson (undisclosed) won't be in the lineup in Game 6 against the Vegas Golden Knights on Thursday, Derek Lee of The Hockey News reports. He will miss a third straight game due to an undisclosed injury. With Radko Gudas (lower body) also not expected to play, Olen Zellweger and Ian Moore will continue to operate as the third-pairing defensemen. The two have seen offensive success recently. In Game 4, Moore scored a goal with Zellweger picking up an assist, and Zellweger then lit the lamp himself in Game 5. That said, the Ducks face elimination on Thursday and will likely lean more on their top-four group on defense.

Drew Helleson Unavailable for Game 5

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Drew Helleson (undisclosed) is not an option on Tuesday for Game 5 against the Vegas Golden Knights, Dan Rosen of NHL.com reports. Helleson entered the lineup at the start of the postseason after the Ducks lost Radko Gudas (lower body), registering one assist, five SOG, and nine hits in eight games. However, he has now joined Gudas in the infirmary due to an undisclosed injury and will miss a second straight game. With the two out, Olen Zellweger is expected to continue on the third defensive pairing with Ian Moore. Zellweger is coming off a good Stanley Cup Playoffs debut, posting an assist in a 4-3 Game 4 win on Sunday.

Drew Helleson Inks Two-Year Extension with Ducks

Anaheim Ducks defenseman Drew Helleson has landed a two-year, $2.2 million contract extension. The 24-year-old completed his entry-level contract with the 2024-25 campaign and was a restricted free agent who had filed for salary arbitration. Through his first 59 career games, Helleson has recorded 14 points (five goals, nine assists), 67 shots, 76 blocks, and 101 hits with a plus-six rating. Last season, Helleson led all rookie defensemen in shorthanded time on ice (54:32) and was second to Lane Hutson in both points and assists among first-year rearguards. Helleson has upside in his games but currently doesn't have much fantasy value because he's limited to third-pairing minutes in the Anaheim defense.
