Ilya Sorokin Shuts Out Oilers With 35 Saves

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin took over the league lead with his fifth shutout of the season, keeping Connor McDavid and the Edmonton Oilers at bay with 35 saves in a 1-0 win on Thursday night. McDavid was riding a career-best 20-game point streak, while Leon Draisaitl had averaged two points per game over the last five contests. Yet, Sorokin made containing the star duo look easy on Thursday, becoming the sixth active netminder to record five shutouts in a single season at least three times. Three of Sorokin's five shutouts have come in his last nine starts. He has won three of four outings in January, improving to 15-11-2. The Russian shot-stopper has registered a 2.47 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage.

While Sorokin has battled some consistency issues during the 2025-26 campaign, he has logged a 2.55 goals-against average, a .910 save percentage, and three shutouts, going 12-10-2 across 24 starts. David Rittich, who holds an 8-3-2 record, will start on Saturday, with Marcus Hogberg recalled from the minors to serve as his backup.

Ilya Sorokin Posts Second Shutout of the Season

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin performed admirably in Thursday's matchup against the Detroit Red Wings, finishing a 5-0 road victory with his second shutout of the season. Sorokin collected his fourth victory in five starts, making 29 saves. It's his 24th career shutout with the Islanders, and Sorokin now needs only one more clean sheet to tie Glenn Resch for the franchise record. After a rocky start to the season, Sorokin has reclaimed a spot among the NHL's best shot-stoppers, going 5-1-1 over his last seven appearances. The hot streak has improved Sorokin's record for the season to 7-5-2, and he has a 2.71 goals-against average with a .905 save percentage.

Ilya Sorokin Stops 25 Shots In Victory

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin stopped all 25 shots he saw en route to defeating the New Jersey Devils on Sunday afternoon. Bo Horvat was able to break the scoreless tie in the second frame. The Devils held the slight advantage in the shot total, but Sorokin was able to lead the way. Sorokin has been sidelined since April 8 due to a lower-body injury but looked quite sharp in his return. Before his injury, Sorokin carried a 2-3 record with a 3.20 GAA and a .883 save percentage. The Islanders have been eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and the team may opt to rest Sorokin for their final two games. If he were to sit, Marcus Hogberg would likely see the starter's crease during their final two games. Through 56 games, Sorokin has posted a 25-19-12 with a 3.01 GAA.

Sorokin has been extremely busy all year, posting a 29-23-6 record with 62 starts. He has allowed 2.77 goals while logging a .905 save percentage and three shutouts. Marcus Hogberg, who is 2-4-2 for the campaign, will hold down the fort in Sorokin's absence, with Tristan Lennox filling backup duties.

Ilya Sorokin Exits On Tuesday With Injury

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin (upper body) exited Tuesday's contest early against the Nashville Predators. Sorokin was not on the ice at the start of the third period. While he allowed four goals during the first two periods, Andrew Gross of Newsday reported that his absence was injury-related. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to their next game on Thursday evening against the New York Islanders. Before Tuesday's game, Sorokin was riding a two-game winning streak. During this streak, he stopped 55 of the 57 shots he saw. However, prior to that recent surge, he carried a 0-3 record with a high 4.16 GAA. With the Islanders falling behind in the playoff picture, the team may provide Sorokin with extra opportunities to rest.

Ilya Sorokin Out With An Illness

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin (illness) will not take part in Saturday's game against Utah. Sorokin was outstanding on Thursday with a 30-save shutout against Vegas, but he has to skip Saturday's game due to illness. With Semyon Varlamov (lower body) already out, the Islanders are going with Marcus Hogberg between the pipes, with Jakub Skarek working as his backup. Hogberg has posted a 0-1-0 record with one start and two relief appearances in 2024-25. He has stopped 55 of 58 shots to register a .948 save percentage. Utah has scored more than two goals just once in its last eight games, making this a solid matchup for Hogberg, who carries a 9-18-9 career record.

Ilya Sorokin Posts 30-Save Shutout On Thursday

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin stopped all 30 shots he faced against the Golden Knights on Thursday evening in Vegas. This win extended the Islanders' winning streak to two games. The netminder carries a solid .930% SV and a 2.00 GAA during this four-game stretch. Before this stretch, he allowed three or more goals in his previous six starts and held a poor 4.27 GAA and a .843% SV during that span. Ilya Sorokin Posts First Shutout Of The Season

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin stopped all 29 shots he faced en route to defeating the Buffalo Sabres on Saturday evening. The Islanders were slightly outshot in this contest, but Sorokin was able to lead the way and snap their three-game skid. This was a great bounce-back for the Russian netminder as he allowed a season-high five goals in his previous start on November 27 against the Boston Bruins. In total, the 29-year-old has posted a solid .915% SV and a 2.52 GAA with a 6-6-3 overall record. Fantasy managers should continue to expect Sorokin to split time with Semyon Varlamov. However, Varlamov surrendered eight goals over his previous two outings, which could open the door for Sorokin to see a more significant majority of the starts going forward.

Ilya Sorokin To Face Bruins On Wednesday

New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin will get the nod for Wednesday's matchup against Boston. He returns to the crease after Semyon Varlamov was beaten 4-2 by Detroit on Monday. Sorokin has left many fantasy managers disappointed this season, going 5-3-3. However, his poor record is mainly down to the team's offensive woes. The Islanders have scored two or fewer goals in five of Sorokin's 13 starts. His other numbers look solid, as Sorokin has recorded a 2.52 goals-against average with a .917 save percentage. The Bruins haven't scored more than two goals in six straight games, making this a decent matchup for Sorokin, who has a 2-2-3 career record against Boston.
