Jaccob Slavin Unavailable Versus Sharks

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin (lower body) won't be in the lineup on Tuesday against the San Jose Sharks. He has stayed behind as the team prepares to kick off a six-game road trip. "He didn't feel great at the end of that game the other night, and we went for some more stuff," Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "I think they're testing, and we're just going to keep him out for a while. It's nothing really super serious, but [it] doesn't quite feel right, so for right now he's not on this trip." Slavin's spot in the lineup will go to Mike Reilly, who will make his season debut on Tuesday night. Reilly will skate on the bottom pairing and should remain a free agent in fantasy leagues.

Jaccob Slavin Suffers Injury Saturday

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin (undisclosed) didn't finish Saturday's 4-3 overtime victory against the Philadelphia Flyers. He was unavailable for most of the third period and the entire overtime due to an undisclosed injury. "He's getting looked at," Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour said postgame. "We'll know more about his status Monday. He came up a little gimpy." Slavin already battled a health issue during training camp and didn't feature in any of Carolina's preseason games. The Hurricanes are carrying Mike Reilly as an extra defenseman, and he will likely come into the lineup if Slavin has to sit out some games. Reilly offers more offensively than Slavin, but he probably won't see enough ice time to be a viable fantasy option.

Jaccob Slavin Good to Go Thursday

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin (undisclosed) will be available for Thursday's season opener against the New Jersey Devils, Walt Ruff of the Hurricanes' official site reports. Slavin didn't see any preseason action, but Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour suggested that it was mostly for precautionary reasons. Although Slavin is the leader of the Hurricanes' blue line, his fantasy production is usually modest. In 80 outings last season, Slavin recorded 27 points (six goals, 21 assists), 110 shots, and 136 blocks in 80 contests.

Jaccob Slavin Remains Sidelined Saturday

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin (undisclosed) stayed off the ice on Saturday. He hasn't yet skated during training camp. "He trains pretty hard in the summer, and he was feeling a little sore," Hurricanes head coach Brind'Amour said Thursday. "Until he says he's 100 percent, we're not going to put him out there." Brind'Amour didn't seem worried about Slavin's status for the start of the season, so it appears the Hurricanes are just being extra cautious with him. Slavin plays a crucial role on defense for Carolina, although his game doesn't translate well to fantasy hockey. The American blue-liner finished last season with 27 points (six goals, 21 assists), 110 shots, 136 blocks, and a plus-16 rating in 80 contests.

Jaccob Slavin Extends Point Streak With Overtime Winner

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin potted the game-winning goal in Tuesday's 2-1 overtime triumph against the Washington Capitals. He lit the lamp with 3:06 played in the extra frame, extending his point streak to three games. Slavin is not known for his scoring prowess, so his contributions on the offensive end are always a bonus for the Hurricanes. Following a 27-point regular-season campaign, Slavin has upped his productivity in the playoffs, notching four points (two goals, two assists) in six games. He has added nine blocks to his tally while taking 19 shots on goal.

Jaccob Slavin Working On Long-Term Extension With Hurricanes

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin is poised to sign an extension with the team this offseason. Per Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Hurricanes are working on a long-term deal with Slavin. He will be wrapping up a seven-year, $37.1 million contract in 2024-25. Slavin, who turned 30 on May 1, should secure himself another good deal after becoming a key cog for the Hurricanes. He led the blue line with a plus-21 rating this season and had a team-high 120 hits while recording 37 points (six goals, 31 assists) in 81 appearances.

Jaccob Slavin To Return On Saturday

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin (lower body) will return to the lineup against the Rangers on Saturday night. The 28-year-old missed six consecutive games with a lower-body injury that he sustained against the Wild on Jan. 19. Slavin has produced three goals and 12 assists on the season and carries limited offensive upside compared to teammates Brent Burns and Brady Skjei on the defensive end.

Jaccob Slavin Misses Another Game Tuesday

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin (lower body) remains out for Tuesday's matchup versus the Kings. The 28-year-old has been skating in practice but isn't quite ready for any action and will sit out a fifth consecutive game. Jalen Chatfield is set to continue in a bigger role Tuesday. Chatfield has tallied two points in the four games Slavin has missed, although his fantasy appeal is very limited because he's not used on the power play. Brady Skjei sits on the first unit and Brent Burns is quarterbacking the second unit.

Jaccob Slavin Remains Out Sunday

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin (lower body) will miss a fourth consecutive game Sunday versus Boston. Following Saturday's practice, Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour noted that Slavin "skated well", but it looks like he still needs to put in some more work before he is game-ready again. Slavin has notched 15 points in 45 games this season with 74 shots on goal, 27 hits and 72 blocks. He's been a major piece of the defensive corps, averaging 22:26 of ice time, but the team has to do without him for a bit longer. Dylan Coghlan has come into the team in Slavin's absence, while Jalen Chatfield has moved up in the lineup to partner Brent Burns on the first defensive pairing.

Jaccob Slavin Picks Up Pair Of Assists

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin helped to set up two goals Sunday when the team suffered a painful 4-3 shootout loss against Vancouver. The Hurricanes were 3-2 up heading into the final couple of minutes when Slavin had helped Jordan Martinook and Sebastian Aho to score, but the Canucks tied the game with just 17 seconds left in regulation and the team had to settle for just one point. Slavin doesn't generally contribute regularly on offense, but he has now recorded two multi-point efforts in three games. He has managed three goals and 12 assists in total across 44 outings with 74 shots, 26 hits and 69 blocks.

Jaccob Slavin Enters COVID-19 Protocols

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin has been placed in the COVID-19 protocols on Tuesday. The 27-year-old ranks second among Hurricanes defensemen with 18 points through 33 games, behind only Tony DeAngelo's 24 points. Slavin provides additional fantasy value for fantasy managers in plus-minus leagues, as he has been among the league leaders in that category over the past three seasons. With Slavin out of the lineup, defensemen Brett Pesce and Brady Skjei will have a chance to move up in the lineup and receive some time on the power-play unit.

Jaccob Slavin Out Monday Versus Nashville

Carolina Hurricanes defenseman Jaccob Slavin will not dress due to a lower-body injury as his team takes on the Nashville Predators on Monday. The 27-year-old was forced to depart Saturday's contest after just 7:13 of ice time for what the team deemed as precautionary. With the division already clinched and Slavin listed as day-to-day, it makes sense for the Hurricanes to hold him out of the final regular season game. The Colorado native has posted 15 points (three goals, 12 assists), a plus-22 rating and 101 shots while averaging 22:59 of ice time in 52 games in 2020-2021.
