Sebastian Aho News
Carolina Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho has signed an eight-year extension, general manager Don Waddell announced Wednesday. The Finnish star forward, who celebrated his 26th birthday on Wednesday, will be paid $78 million over the course of the deal, giving him a $9.75 million cap hit. "Sebastian has developed into one of the best two-way centers in hockey," Waddell said in a statement. "He's a tremendous leader on and off the ice who sets a great example for our younger players. We're grateful that he's decided to stay in Carolina for the foreseeable future." Aho, whose new deal will start in 2024-25, has spent his entire seven-year NHL career with the Hurricanes, collecting 468 points across 520 regular-season appearances with 218 goals and 250 assists. He had his fourth 30-goal campaign in five years last season, notching 67 points in 75 games overall.
Carolina Hurricanes forward Sebastian Aho is closing in on a long-term contract extension with the team, according to general manager Don Waddell. The Finnish star has one season remaining on a five-year, $42.27 million contract he signed in 2019 when Carolina matched an offer sheet he received from Montreal. Aho has been killing it throughout the deal, leading the team in goals every year and also topping the scoring chart every campaign until Martin Necas pipped him in 2022-23. "We're working on it, getting close," Waddell said. "Not there yet, but we are talking on a regular basis, almost daily, so I'm hoping that we can get this to the finish line here in the next week or so." Waddell added that Aho wants to be a Hurricane player "for life". Since making his debut in 2016-17, Aho has totaled 218 goals and 250 assists in 520 games with Carolina, developing into an elite fantasy asset.
Carolina Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho extended his points streak to four games with an assist in Wednesday's Game 1 victory over New Jersey. Aho failed to match a franchise playoff record with a four-game goal-scoring run, but he kept his overall scoring streak going with a helper on Brady Skjei's first postseason goal of the year. The Finnish star has been kept off the score sheet just once in seven playoff games this season, and he's totaled four goals and four assists.
Carolina Hurricanes center Sebastian Aho amassed three points as the team defeated the Islanders 5-2 on Sunday. Aho registered the game-winning goal and dished out two assists, including one on the power play. With his 20th career postseason tally, Aho became the franchise's all-time leading goal-scorer in the playoffs. He is also holding the record in assists (31) and points (51). It was Aho's 13th postseason multi-point game and that's a franchise record as well. He is the team's main offensive catalyst, especially in a situation where the Hurricanes have lost multiple top-six forwards to injuries. Through the first four playoff games this year, Aho has tallied two goals and five points.
