Mathew Barzal Bags OT Winner Saturday

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal scored in double overtime in Game 4 on Saturday, helping his team avoid a four-game sweep at the hands of the Carolina Hurricanes. The 26-year-old tipped a Robert Bortuzzo shot to beat Frederik Andersen just 1:24 into the second overtime frame, notching his second goal of the game after tying the tilt at one apiece midway through the second period. Barzal had tallied just one assist through the first three games of the series but came up big when his team needed it the most on Saturday. Game 5 of the series goes Tuesday as the series switches back to Carolina.

Mathew Barzal Tallies Two Assists In Sunday's Win

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal recorded two assists as new head coach Patrick Roy made a winning start with the team on Sunday against Dallas. Barzal helped Alexander Romanov to open the scoring with less than three minutes played, and he set up Bo Horvat for a 3-2 game-winner with only 41 seconds gone in overtime. It's the 10th game of the season with multiple assists for the talented playmaker. Barzal has had 36 assists in total for the season while adding 12 goals in 45 appearances. Despite the team's struggles this season, Barzal boasts a career-best scoring rate of 1.07 points per game.

Mathew Barzal Has Three-Point Night In Loss

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal scored a goal and added two assists in Tuesday's 5-4 loss against the Devils. Barzal's breakaway goal tied the game at the midway point of the second period, while he picked up assists on goals scored by forwards Bo Horvat and Jean-Gabriel Pageau. Barzal's three-point game brings his season totals to six goals and 19 points through 21 games to lead the team in scoring.

Mathew Barzal Scores Lone Islanders Goal In Monday's Defeat

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal reached 10 points for the season with the team's only goal in Monday's 4-1 defeat against the Oilers. Barzal put the Islanders ahead with only 40 seconds played, but they couldn't find any more ways to get past Stuart Skinner in the Edmonton goal. The Islanders have had a couple of tough weeks, but Barzal has stayed productive, bagging four points during the team's five-game losing streak. Across the entire season, Barzal has tallied three goals and seven assists in 14 outings.

Mathew Barzal Ready To Return In Game 1

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal (lower body) is on track to return to the lineup in Game 1 of the first-round series against Carolina on Monday. The Islanders lost the star forward back in mid-February to a lower-body injury. Barzal tallied 14 goals and 51 points in 58 games before getting injured, so the team suffered a huge loss, but the Islanders still managed to make it into the postseason, giving Barzal a chance to return to action. He's been the team's first-line center but moved to the right wing when the Islanders traded for Bo Horvat. The two practiced with Anders Lee on the top line Friday.

Mathew Barzal Ruled Out Indefinitely

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal (lower body) has been ruled out indefinitely. He was injured Saturday against Boston and will start an extended absence with Monday's matchup versus Pittsburgh. It's a bitter blow for the Islanders, who are battling for a playoff spot and just made a big move in the trade market by bringing in Bo Horvat from Vancouver. Barzal leads the team with 37 assists and sits second in scoring with 51 points in 58 games. The Islanders attack has also recently lost Josh Bailey (upper body) and Jean-Gabriel Pageau (upper body) to injuries.

Mathew Barzal Exits With Injury

New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal suffered an undisclosed injury early into Saturday's clash with the Bruins. He took only three shifts in the game and finished with 1:32 of ice time. Islanders head coach Lane Lambert didn't have an immediate update on Barzal's status after the game. If he misses any time, it's a massive blow for the team, as Barzal sits among the Islanders' top scorers with 51 points in 58 games. He leads the squad with 37 assists and is an integral part of what the team is trying to do.

Mathew Barzal Collects Three Points

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal has started to heat up and racked up three points in Thursday's high-scoring 6-5 loss to Vancouver. He netted his 14th goal of the campaign early in the second period and added two assists, one on the power play. Barzal is now on a four-game point streak, scoring in three of the contests. He has been moved to the wing to accommodate Bo Horvat and it's worked out well for both players so far. Horvat scored in a second consecutive game on Thursday. Josh Bailey is also on the line, and he could be a great pickup in deep fantasy leagues if he finds some form.

Mathew Barzal Dealing With A Lower-Body Injury

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal was a late scratch Friday against Calgary due to a lower-body injury. Head coach Lane Lambert said after the game that Barzal is dealing with a "tweak". The injury doesn't sound serious and the team is considering Barzal day-to-day. New York's star man was forced to exit the lineup with a five-game goal streak. Barzal has been making up for lost time after struggling massively to score at the start of the campaign. He leads the team with 41 points in 40 games, and with the next matchup not coming until Monday, there seems to be a good chance that Barzal misses only this one game.

Mathew Barzal Remains Hot Against Vancouver

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal scored in a fourth consecutive game and handed out two assists as the team dominated against the Canucks on Tuesday with a 6-2 victory. Barzal ended up logging the game-winning goal and one of his helpers came with the man advantage. The talented playmaker has always enjoyed facing his hometown team, notching at least one point in all eight career appearances against the Canucks. Barzal hasn't done badly against other teams either and is now averaging over a point per game for the season, with 10 goals and 30 assists recorded in 39 outings.

Mathew Barzal Pots A Power-Play Goal

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal scored the team's only goal in Friday's 4-1 defeat to Nashville, netting on the power play 11:06 into the third period. He had a whopping nine shots in total in the contest and registered one hit with a minus-two rating in 20:06 of action. It's been a strange season for Barzal, as he is averaging over a point per game but this was only his third goal of the campaign. He sits among the league's best set-up men with 24 assists. Barzal is a 10.7 percent career shooter, so he has a lot of room for improvement from his current 4.7 shooting percentage.

Mathew Barzal Finally Opens His Goals Account

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal scored his first two goals of the campaign in Saturday's 5-2 defeat to Dallas. He gave the team two leads in the second period, netting his second goal on the power play, but the Stars were too strong in the end. Barzal has been off form in front of goal, but he can't really complain about how his season is going, with the 25-year-old averaging over a point per game. His 19 assists before his first goal in a season were the fourth most by a forward in league history. Nathan MacKinnon (21) and Leon Draisaitl (20) are the only players in the league this season with more helpers than him.

Mathew Barzal Racks Up Three Assists

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal celebrated a hat trick of assists against the Flames on Monday, capping off his wonderful night with a power-play helper on a 4-3 winner in overtime. He was plus-two for the game and added five shots and one block to his line in 24 minutes of work. Barzal has started the season in fine form, sitting on 14 points through 13 games, but he incredibly hasn't yet scored a single goal so far despite firing 37 efforts on net. He's a 10 percent career shooter, so Barzal should have a few in the bag already, but it looks like he is saving his goals for special occasions. This could turn out to be a special season for Barzal once he finds his goal-scoring stick, as the Islanders are playing some great stuff and sit among the league's best attacking sides.

Mathew Barzal Signs Contract Extenison With Islanders

On Tuesday, New York Islanders forward Mathew Barzal signed an eight-year contract at $9.15 million annually to remain an Islander. Last season Barzal like his teammates, had a disappointing season. New York missed the playoffs, and Barzal only scored 15 goals, a career low. However, the new contract for the British Columbia native should motivate him to get back to where he was in 2020-2021, where he logged 45 points in 55 regular season contests. Fantasy managers expect Barzal to have a rebound season and to be slotted at center on the team's second line.

Mathew Barzal A Game-Time Decision vs. Jets

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal (lower body) will be a game-time decision when his team hosts the Winnipeg Jets on Friday. Head coach Barry Trotz told the media Barzal will participate in pregame warmups and a decision will be made after. The 24-year-old forward has missed six games after sustaining a lower-body injury in a 5-2 loss to the Los Angeles Kings on February 26. Barzal leads the Isles with 37 points (12 goals, 25 assists) through 45 games played his season.

Mathew Barzal Returns With Three Points Against Buffalo

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal was on a six-game point streak before winding up in COVID protocol and missing more than two weeks. He returned on Thursday night and promptly scored and added two assists in the 4-1 win over the Buffalo Sabres. Barzal opened the scoring 12:35 into the first period which sent the UBS Arena crowd into a frenzy. Barzal added secondary assists midway into the second and third periods to give him a three-point night. After a brutal start, Barzal is up to six goals and 20 points in 24 games this season.

Mathew Barzal Enters COVID-19 Protocols

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal will miss his first game of the season on Tuesday against Detroit because he was added to the COVID-19 list. Jean-Gabriel Pageau, who's been hot lately with three goals in four games, takes over as the first-line center. Barzal has been playing his best hockey of the season lately, putting together a six-game point streak, so it's really unfortunate that he can't play. The situation all across the league is very worrying, with over 20 players ruled out because of COVID-19 protocols in less than 48 hours.

Mathew Barzal Dishes Out Two Assists In Sunday's Loss

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal produced two assists in Sunday's 3-2 shootout loss against Chicago, helping Jean-Gabriel Pageau and Noah Dobson on the scoreboard. The first goal came on the power play. The Islanders now find themselves on an 11-game losing streak, but Barzal has actually done well himself lately, breaking a slump with five points in three games. He's boosted his points tally for the year up to 13 in 20 games. The Islanders now gear up for a matchup against fellow strugglers Ottawa and that will really be a must-win game for them. It's a good spot for Barzal to continue building his streak.

Mathew Barzal Point Drought Hits Five In Latest Loss

New York Islanders center Mathew Barzal disappeared on Friday night again in a 1-0 loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. He played more than 19 minutes and blocked one shot. That's it. That's all he did. There were no shots for the second time in three games. Barzal now has just eight points in 17 games for the Islanders. Worse, he has no points in his previous five contests. Barzal has not had the best players flanking his line but something has to change. He is flat out a fantasy liability currently and one to stay away from for the foreseeable future.

Mathew Barzal Scores Goal In Islanders Win

New York Islanders centerman Mathew Barzal had a long night playing mostly on the defensive side, but he still managed four shots on goal and three scoring chances. It was one of those chances that led to a goal. Barzal converted a Josh Bailey feed to make it 2-0 New York. That was more than enough to ensure victory. The center has had a few of these efforts where he generates a bunch of opportunities out of mostly nothing. Consistency would be nice, but Barzal now has three goals in six games on the young season.
