Jaxson Stauber Faces Flyers Sunday

Utah Hockey Club goaltender Jaxson Stauber will get the start for Sunday's matchup against Philadelphia. This marks only his second appearance of the season. Stauber's season debut couldn't have gone any better, as he took down a strong Vegas team with 29 saves in a 6-0 win on Nov. 30. The result gives Stauber an impressive 6-1-0 career record in the NHL. Philadelphia has produced 2.89 goals per game this season, so Stauber finds himself in a decent spot to log another victory on Sunday.

Nick Schmaltz Nets Lone Utah Goal In Monday's Defeat

Utah Hockey Club forward Nick Schmaltz was the team's lone scorer in Monday's 2-1 loss to Dallas. With Matias Maccelli and Nick Bjugstad setting him up, Schmaltz made it a one-goal game at 6:57 in the third period, but Utah couldn't generate any more goals. Schmaltz recorded all of his first 17 points of the season via assists but has now scored three goals in two games. He skates on the top line with Barrett Hayton and Utah's top scorer, Clayton Keller, who boasts 22 points (seven goals, 15 assists) through 25 games. The trio gets to do damage next in a back-to-back set over the weekend as Utah faces Buffalo and Philadelphia, two teams that can be fragile defensively.

Nick Schmaltz Ends Scoring Drought On Saturday

Utah Hockey Club right wing Nick Schmaltz found the back of the net twice during Saturday's victory over the Utah Hockey Club. Schmaltz's first tally was in the opening frame off a wrist shot. Later in the second, the 28-year-old tallied a power-play goal to extend their lead. In addition, he also logged five shots on goal. These were Schmaltz's first two tallies of the campaign. Entering this game, he had registered just 17 helpers across 23 contests. Despite him just ending his scoring drought on Saturday, fantasy managers should continue to view him as a steady fantasy producer, given his role in the Utah top-6 and No.1 power-play unit. Schmaltz will look to stay hot on Monday when he faces the Dallas Stars.

Maveric Lamoureux  • D  •  Hockey Club

Maveric Lamoureux To Miss 4-6 Weeks

Utah Hockey Club defenseman Maveric Lamoureux (upper body) will be absent for 4-6 weeks. He'll be out for a second consecutive game on Saturday versus Vegas. Lamoureux has seen a solid amount of action during his rookie campaign, averaging 16:07 of ice time across 15 appearances. He has recorded one goal and two assists with 17 shots, 11 blocks, and 18 hits. Lamoureux's spot in the lineup has gone to Juuso Valimaki, who tallied an assist in Friday's 4-3 overtime loss to Edmonton. This marked his first point of the season in 17 contests, so it's safe to leave Valimaki on the waiver wire.

Connor Ingram Ruled Out For The Rest Of The Week

Utah Hockey Club goaltender Connor Ingram (upper body) will not return to action this week. He's sat out four games and won't be available for the team's back-to-back set, which starts on Friday versus Edmonton. Karel Vejmelka will pick up another start against the Oilers, while Jaxson Stauber might get a look in Saturday's matchup versus Vegas. Vejmelka has gone 2-2-0 during Ingram's absence, allowing only seven goals. He has a 3-6-0 record for the season and boasts a strong 2.25 goals-against average with a .922 save percentage. The Czech netminder has been in impressive form lately but faces an improving Oilers offense, which has scored three-plus goals in seven of the past eight games.

Dylan Guenther Bags Two More Points Against Canadiens

Utah Hockey Club right wing Dylan Guenther celebrated his 100th career game with a two-point effort in Tuesday's 3-2 overtime win against Montreal. He now boasts six points (three goals, three assists) for his last three outings. Guenther has a tendency to blow hot and cold, but he's delivered plenty of value for fantasy managers in 2024-25. With 22 games played, Guenther has tallied 10 goals and 10 assists with 56 shots and a plus-seven rating. The young winger now gets some time off before facing Connor McDavid and the Oilers. Friday's game gives Guenther a chance to match the longest point streak of his young career.

Nick Schmaltz Records Two Assists In Tuesday's Win

Utah Hockey Club forward Nick Schmaltz grabbed two assists as the team beat Montreal 3-2 in overtime Tuesday night. Dylan Guenther and Mikhail Sergachev benefited from Schmaltz's playmaking, with the latter scoring the game-winning goal inside the final minute of the extra frame. Schmaltz reached 17 assists for the campaign, but amazingly, he hasn't yet scored a single goal on 44 shots in 22 games. Only six players in the league have managed more than Schmaltz's 13 even-strength assists this season. The 28-year-old has recorded three consecutive 20-goal campaigns, with a 13.5 career shooting percentage, so Schmaltz's luck in front of the net should turn eventually.

Mikhail Sergachev Collects An Assist In Sunday's Loss

Utah Hockey Club defenseman Mikhail Sergachev tallied a power-play assist as the team was defeated by the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 on Sunday. He combined with Dylan Guenther to set up Logan Cooley for the opening goal late in the first period. Following his move from Tampa Bay, Sergachev has stepped into a bigger role on his new team, and Utah hasn't been disappointed. He has amassed 14 points (five goals, nine assists) in 21 games, putting him tied with Carolina's Shayne Gostisbehere and Seattle's Brandon Montour for the most points among all defensemen on a new team this season. Sergachev has also racked up 36 blocks, with 34 shots fired on goal.

Logan Cooley Leads Utah's Offense Sunday

Utah Hockey Club center Logan Cooley finished Sunday's 3-2 loss to Toronto with a goal and assist. He opened the scoring in the contest with a power-play tally and snagged an assist when Jack McBain found the back of the net in the third period. This was Cooley's second consecutive multi-point effort following a two-assist performance in Saturday's 6-1 victory against his hometown Penguins. The 20-year-old battles consistency issues but has done well overall during his sophomore campaign. Cooley is Utah's third-highest scorer with 16 points (four goals, 12 assists) in 21 games. He leads the pack with 13 even-strength points.

Karel Vejmelka  • G  •  Hockey Club

Karel Vejmelka Gets Another Start On Sunday

Utah Hockey Club goaltender Karel Vejmelka will remain in the crease for Sunday's battle against Toronto. He'll be in action for a second consecutive day following a 27-save effort in Saturday's 6-1 win over Pittsburgh. Vejmelka picks up an extra shift due to Connor Ingram's (upper body) absence. There have been only two wins in seven starts for Vejmelka this season, but his other numbers look impressive, with the Czech netminder logging a 2.21 goals-against average and a .927 save percentage. The bookmakers don't provide a lot of hope for Utah on Sunday, as the visitors are seen as +160 underdogs for the matchup, but Vejmelka faces a team that's lost several quality forwards to injury, giving him a better chance to grab the victory.

Connor Ingram Out Day-To-Day With An Upper-Body Injury

Utah Hockey Club goaltender Connor Ingram (upper body) is considered day-to-day. The 27-year-old had a difficult outing against Washington on Monday, which may have resulted from the injury. Utah pulled Ingram after he had allowed four goals on 14 shots. Ingram's season with the NHL's newest franchise has been a rollercoaster ride. He sits on a 6-4-3 record and has allowed 3.61 goals with a .871 save percentage. Karel Vejmelka will receive an increased workload if Ingram can't make a quick return from injury. Vejmelka has celebrated only one victory in five starts this term but has been more efficient with his work compared to Ingram, recording a 2.58 goals-against average and a .915 save percentage. Jaxson Stauber has been recalled from the AHL on an emergency basis.

Michael Kesselring  • D  •  Hockey Club

Michael Kesselring Good To Go Wednesday

Utah Hockey Club defenseman Michael Kesselring (illness) will play against Calgary on Wednesday. He was a question mark for the clash after missing Tuesday's practice due to an illness. Kesselring has been a two-way force for Utah on the blue line, averaging 20:27 of ice time. His role has grown in recent games due to Sean Durzi's (shoulder) absence. Newly acquired Olli Maatta will make his debut in defense for Utah on Wednesday, meaning Robert Bortuzzo will have to settle for a seat in the press box.

Olli Maatta Shipped To Utah

The Detroit Red Wings have traded veteran defenseman Olli Maatta to the Utah Hockey Club. Utah sent out a 2025 third-round draft pick to bolster its injury-hit defense. The NHL's new boys have lost Sean Durzi (shoulder) and John Marino (lower back) to long-term injuries. Maatta, a two-time Stanley Cup winner, has skated in seven games with the Red Wings this season, going scoreless with three shots, seven blocks, and three hits. Fantasy managers shouldn't expect much production from him on his new team, either.

Michael Kesselring Battling An Illness

Utah Hockey Club defenseman Michael Kesselring (illness) didn't practice on Tuesday. He has been struck down by an illness, leaving Kesselring questionable for Wednesday's matchup against Calgary. The 24-year-old has played a big role at the back for the injury-hit Utah team, amassing five points (two goals, three assists) in 10 games with 14 shots, eight blocks, and 15 hits. Juuso Valimaki will likely re-enter the lineup on Wednesday if Kesselring isn't ready to go. Despite logging regular power-play time, Valimaki has been anonymous offensively this season, going scoreless in eight outings with seven shots on net.

Nick Bjugstad  • C  •  Hockey Club

Nick Bjugstad Set For Season Debut On Saturday

Utah Hockey Club center Nick Bjugstad (upper body) is expected to make his season debut on Saturday versus Los Angeles. Bjugstad hasn't yet played in 2024-25 due to an upper-body injury. The six-foot-six centerman will see action in a third-line role. He practiced on a line with Matias Maccelli and Lawson Crouse on Friday. Last season, Bjugstad had one of his best campaigns offensively, as he tallied 22 goals and 45 points in 76 games. He also adds muscle to the Utah lineup, averaging 1.60 hits per game for his career.

John Marino  • D  •  Hockey Club

John Marino Ruled Out Until 2025

Utah Hockey Club defenseman John Marino (back) will not make his team debut until 2025. He has yet to play this season, and the team now announced that Marino has undergone surgery on his lower back, which will keep him sidelined for 3-4 months. Marino was acquired from New Jersey in the offseason, and Utah planned to utilize him as a top-four piece in defense. He has previously shown off good two-way ability and registered 25 points (four goals, 21 assists), 57 shots, and 89 blocks in 75 games with the Devils last season. With Sean Durzi (shoulder) also on the shelf, Mikhail Sergachev eats up massive minutes as Utah's No. 1 defenseman, while Michael Kesselring and Juuso Valimaki have seen their roles increase.

Sean Durzi  • D  •  Hockey Club

Sean Durzi Ruled Out For 4-6 Months

Utah Hockey Club defenseman Sean Durzi has undergone successful shoulder surgery and will be out of action for 4-6 months. Durzi needed to get repairs done on his right shoulder after getting hurt on Oct. 14. With him out, Michael Kesselring has taken over duties on the first defensive pairing. He's off to a strong start to the year and is now set to have additional fantasy value for an extended period. With seven games played, Kesselring boasts four points (two goals, two goals) with 10 shots, eight blocks, 11 hits, and a plus-six rating. Juuso Valimaki has jumped on the second power-play unit during Durzi's absence but hasn't yet produced any offense.

Connor Ingram Makes History With Another Winning Effort

Utah Hockey Club goaltender Connor Ingram continued his good start to the season with a 2-1 overtime victory against Boston on Saturday, making history in the process. Ingram, who improved to 4-0-1, became the first goaltender in NHL history with a season-opening five-game point streak while playing for a team in its inaugural campaign. It's been an impressive run from the 27-year-old, although there has also been some luck involved, with three of Ingram's four victories coming after regulation. The team's hot offense has also played its part in Ingram's historic streak, as he has allowed 3.29 goals with a .882 save percentage. These numbers don't look good on Ingram, but not many fantasy managers will complain as long as he keeps delivering wins.

Kailer Yamamoto  • RW  •  Hockey Club

Kailer Yamamoto Set For Utah Debut On Saturday

Utah Hockey Club right wing Kailer Yamamoto will join the lineup on Saturday versus Boston. The 26-year-old will make his first appearance of the season, which also marks his debut for Utah. Yamamoto joined Utah on a one-year deal at the start of the month after spending the training camp with the team on a professional tryout agreement. He skated with the Seattle Kraken last term, recording eight goals and 16 points in 59 games. Yamamoto is not a very productive player and should remain on the waiver wire in fantasy leagues, especially when he's only seeing fourth-line minutes, as seems to be the case on Saturday night. Michael Carcone makes room in the lineup for Yamamoto.

Sean Durzi  • D  •  Hockey Club

Sean Durzi Expected To Miss 4-5 Months

Utah Hockey Club defenseman Sean Durzi (upper body) is expected to be out for 4-5 months. He was injured at the start of the week against New Jersey and will need surgery. Durzi has had a fine start to the season with two assists and 13 blocks across four games. Utah's defense has already been without John Marino (upper body) to start its inaugural season. Michael Kesselring moved to the top defensive pairing as Durzi's replacement on Wednesday versus Anaheim, while Juuso Valimaki has taken over from him on the second power-play unit. Kesselring made a big impact in his new role right away, finishing Wednesday's 5-4 overtime loss with two points (one goal, one assist), one shot, two blocks, one hit, and a plus-three rating.
