Aaron Schunk Playing In Rehab Games

Colorado Rockies infielder Aaron Schunk (groin) made two minor-league rehab starts with Triple-A Albuquerque over the weekend and went 2-for-7 with a home run, two RBI and a run scored for the Isotopes as he recovers from a strained left groin. The 27-year-old made one start at second base and one at third base. Schunk isn't a lock to return to the big leagues when his rehab assignment is up, and if he does rejoin the Rockies, it will be in a utility infield role. In 20 at-bats before going on the injured list on April 26, the former second-rounder in 2019 out of Georgia had five hits (no homers), no RBI and one run scored in a bench role for the worst team in baseball. Schunk made his major-league debut in 2024 and hit .234/.265/.330 with two homers and seven RBI in 39 games played. He's only relevant in deep NL-only leagues.

Aaron Schunk Resumes Baseball Activities This Week

Colorado Rockies infielder Aaron Schunk (groin) took infield and batting practice on Wednesday and was able to do fielding and baserunning drills on Thursday. Schunk landed on the injured list on April 26 with a left-groin strain, and there's no current timetable for his return to the big leagues. The 27-year-old will most likely need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment before the Rockies activate him from the IL, so he might not be able to return for another couple of weeks. When he's ready, Schunk will be a reserve infield option for the Rockies. He went 5-for-20 with a double and a run scored in just seven games before going on the shelf, and he slashed a weak .234/.265/.330 with a .595 OPS, two home runs, seven RBI and 14 runs scored in 2024 in 39 games in his rookie season.

Aaron Schunk Outrighted To Triple-A

The Colorado Rockies announced on Friday that infielder Aaron Schunk cleared waivers and has been outrighted to Triple-A Albuquerque. After being designated for assignment, Schunk will remain in major-league spring training as a non-roster invite. The 27-year-old will most likely open the 2025 regular season with Albuquerque but could eventually rejoin the big-league roster as infield depth. The former second-round pick in 2019 out of the University of Georgia made his major-league debut with the Rockies last summer and hit .234/.265/.330 with a weak .595 OPS, two home runs, seven RBI, 14 runs scored and 31 strikeouts in 98 plate appearances over just 39 games played. Schunk struck out over 30% of the time and walked only four times, and he also didn't hit the ball very hard when he did make contact. He can be avoided in the majority of fantasy leagues.

Aaron Schunk Set To Record Career Numbers

Colorado Rockies infield prospect Aaron Schunk will look to put up career numbers in his first season for Triple-A Albuquerque. At age 25, Schunk made some adjustments towards the end of 2022 in Double-A and that has carried over to a strong season at the plate for Albuquerque. On the season, Schunk has hit .320 with 12 homers and 49 RBI. His .320 average is by far his career-high and he his two homers away from his current career best. Although he is having a strong season, Schunk projects to be a utilityman at the next level. If Schunk gets the call this summer, his playing time would need to be there to be worth rostering and that's no guarantee. For now, he is just a name to monitor in most formats.
