Blake Mitchell Hits First High-A Home Run

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Blake Mitchell went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run during their contest against High-A Fort Wayne on Friday evening. This was Mitchell's first career home run at the High-A level. The No. 33-ranked prospect in baseball was sidelined throughout most of the first half with a wrist injury. He participated in an 11-game rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League before returning to High-A. Through his first three games at High-A this season, Mitchell has gone 3-for-12 with two doubles, a home run, and two RBI. Last season, the catcher spent the majority of his time with Low-A before earning a brief five-game taste of High-A. Given the time he missed this season, fantasy managers should expect Mitchell to spend a majority of the second half with High-A.

Blake Mitchell Completes Rehab, Assigned to High-A

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Blake Mitchell (wrist) has completed his rehab assignment and has been reassigned to High-A Quad Cities, which is where he spent the final five games of 2024. The Royals' second-ranked prospect broke his wrist in the spring and it has kept him out until now after suffering a setback during his rehab that caused an additional delay. The 20-year-old went 8-for-28 (.286) with two doubles, a home run, three steals, and an 8:10 BB:K in 11 games during the rehab assignment with the team's Complex League affiliate. At this point, the left-handed slugger will likely spend the remainder of the season at High-A, but should push for the higher levels next season.

Blake Mitchell Restarts Rehab Assignment

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Blake Mitchell (wrist) restarted his rehab assignment on Monday with the team's Arizona Complex League affiliate. The Royals' second-ranked prospect suffered a broken hamate bone in the spring and began a rehab assignment in early May, however, the 6-foot-1 backstop experienced lingering soreness, so he was shut down after just four rehab games. The left-handed hitter went 0-for-1 with a pair of walks and was caught stealing on Monday. If all goes well, the 20-year-old should join High-A at the end of the assignment, but with only five games under his belt at High-A and a 30.7 percent strikeout rate in 2024, the former first-rounder may spend the remainder of the year at that level. Fellow catching prospect Carter Jensen (Royals No. 3 prospect) was recently promoted to Double-A Arkansas and appears to have a leg up on Mitchell for now, but it looks like Kansas City has some options behind aging Salvador Perez.

Blake Mitchell Begins Rehab Assignment

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Blake Mitchell (wrist) began a rehab assignment on Monday with the team's Arizona Complex League affiliate, going 1-for-2 with a walk and two stolen bases. The Royals' second-ranked prospect is recovering from a broken hamate bone and will likely be assigned to High-A once he's done rehabbing, which is where he finished last season. The former eighth-overall draft pick spent most of 2024 at Single-A, slashing .238/.376/.439 with 18 home runs and a 17.0 percent walk rate. Look for the 6-foot-1 backstop to make a push towards Double-A by season's end, but the left-handed hitter is still a couple of years away from the majors. Still, at just 20 years old and a first-round pedigree, he's a name to keep an eye on in dynasty leagues.

Blake Mitchell Suffers Broken Hamate Bone

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Blake Mitchell (wrist) suffered a broken hamate bone in his right hand and will miss at least the next 4-to-6 weeks. Mitchell will undergo surgery sometime in the coming week. Mitchell was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2023 MLB Draft. He received a brief look in the Rookie League during the 2023 season. Last summer, Mitchell opened the campaign at Single-A, where he spent most of his time. Across 106 games, the backstop posted a .238/.376/.429 line with 16 doubles, 18 home runs, and 25 stolen bases. He held a 79:142 BB:K ratio. He was then given a brief look at High-A, where he tallied two hits across five games. When the 20-year-old is cleared for action, he will likely return to High-A and is several seasons away from his MLB debut.

Blake Mitchell Tabbed As Top Kansas City Hitting Prospect For 2024

MLB Pipeline named catcher Blake Mitchell as the Kansas City Royals' top hitting prospect of the 2024 season. Mitchell, who was selected with the eighth overall pick in the 2023 MLB draft, enjoyed a solid first full taste of professional ball. Mitchell spent most of the summer with Single-A and held a .238/.376/.439 slash line. He tallied 16 doubles, 18 home runs, 50 RBI, and an impressive 25 stolen bases. He was one of just two catchers in the minor leagues who hit at least 18 home runs and swiped 18 bases. The other was Agustin Ramirez of the Marlins. Mitchell then moved up to High-A for his five final games of the season and tallied two hits during this stint. While the 20-year-old's MLB debut is still several seasons away, dynasty managers should continue to view him as a high-end catching prospect.

Blake Mitchell Stays Hot With Another Home Run

Kansas Royals catching prospect Blake Mitchell stayed hot at the plate on Wednesday evening by going 1-for-5 with another home run. This was his fourth round-tripper since the start of the month. Overall, through his first look at Single-A ball, the former eighth-overall pick in last year's draft has held a steady .255/.389/.465 line with 16 home runs and 23 stolen bases through 93 games. MLB.com ranks Mitchell as the top prospect in Kansas City and recently moved him up to the 56th-best in the entire sport in their updated rankings this past week. Mitchell is still several seasons from the big leagues but is a name to keep a close eye on.

Blake Mitchell Breaking Out Of Slump

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Blake Mitchell has begun to heat up at the plate and is breaking out of his prolonged slump. Across his past three games, the top prospect in Kansas City has tallied at least one hit in all of them with a home run, five RBI, and a 5:4 BB:K ratio. In his previous 16 games before this stretch, Mitchell carried a disappointing .170/.308/.245 line with just one long ball and one double. Overall, through his first look at Single-A ball, the 20-year-old has posted a .249/.391/.443 slash line. The former eighth-overall pick in last year's draft remains several seasons away from his major league debut but is developing into one of the better backstops in the minor leagues.

Blake Mitchell Swinging A Hot Bat

Kansas City Royals catching prospect Blake Mitchell has started to find his footing at Single-A and has been swinging an awfully hot bat over the past two weeks. In his last 10 games, the former eighth overall pick in last year's draft has been riding a dominant .350/.447/.675 line with two long balls, five RBI, one stolen base, and a 7:15 BB:K ratio. Prior to this stretch, the Sinton HS product held a poor .174 AVG in his previous nine games. Mitchell currently sits with a solid .264/.402/.480 line through his first 68 games at Single-A and could push for a late-season promotion to High-A if he continues to this great hitting in the batter's box.

Blake Mitchell Hits Homer For Single-A Columbia

Kansas City Royals catcher prospect Blake Mitchell was 2-for-4 with a solo home run on Wednesday for Single-A Columbia. The 19-year-old has adapted nicely to Single-A this season with 10 homers and 30 RBI to go with 18 stolen bases. Kansas City's top overall prospect is a two-time Gatorade Player of the Year in Texas for Sinton High School. He has the tools to be a fantasy star at the catcher position but is a long way away from making an impact with the Royals. For now, he is a dynasty league target and a high-priority name to file away and monitor as he progresses through the Royals' farm system.
