Blue Jays Extend Qualifying Offer to Bo Bichette

The Toronto Blue Jays extended a $22.025 million qualifying offer to star shortstop Bo Bichette on Thursday, according to the team. Bichette can either accept the offer and return to Toronto for the 2026 season or decline it and officially become a free agent. If Bichette declines and signs with another team this offseason, the Blue Jays would receive draft-pick compensation. The 27-year-old two-time All-Star had a bounce-back season for the Jays in 2025 and came just short of helping the team win their first World Series championship in over 30 years. He hit .311/.357/.483 with an .840 OPS, 18 home runs, 94 RBI, 78 runs, and four steals in 139 regular-season games. A knee sprain in early September knocked him out until the World Series, where he went 8-for-23 with a homer and six RBI in seven games. The expectation is that Bichette will turn down the qualifying offer and hit the open market.

Bo Bichette Not Expecting to Need Offseason Knee Surgery

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (knee) said he's not expecting to need offseason surgery on his knee, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith. Bichette suffered a sprained PCL in his left knee in early September and wasn't available for the Blue Jays until Game 1 of the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers last Friday. Although the All-Star shortstop has been available to the Blue Jays during the Fall Classic, he hasn't been moving around the same and has been limited to the designated hitter role and second base. However, he has somehow managed to go 5-for-16 (.313) at the plate with three RBI, a run scored, two walks, and two strikeouts in five games versus the Dodgers. Undergoing knee surgery this offseason would be very notable for a high-profile player who is set for free agency this winter. Barring a setback with his knee, Bichette should be ready for the start of the 2026 season, but it's unclear if that will come back in Toronto or with a new team.

Bo Bichette to Start at Second Base in Game 3 of World Series

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Bo Bichette will return to the starting lineup for Game 3 of the World Series on Monday against Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow, according to manager John Schneider. Bichette will be back at second base and will most likely hit cleanup again, like he did in the team's Game 1 win on Friday night. The All-Star shortstop missed over seven weeks with a knee sprain suffered in early September, but he was included on the World Series roster and made his return in Game 1, picking up a single and a walk in the 11-4 blowout win. He did not play in the Game 2 loss on Saturday, although he did have a plate appearance off the bench late in the game. Bichette will make his second start of the World Series against a pitcher he has struggled against, as he's gone 2-for-16 with an RBI, three walks, and four K's in his career against Glasnow.

Bo Bichette Absent for Game 2

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette is out of the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's Game 2 of the World Series. Bichette made his first appearance of the postseason during Game 1 of this series. He went 1-for-2 with a walk during Friday's win over the Los Angeles Dodgers. Considering the injury, it's not shocking to see the Jays' being cautious with Bichette. In his absence, Isiah Kiner-Falefa will cover second base and bat eighth versus right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto. It wouldn't be shocking to see Bichette come in as a pinch-hitter at some point during this game.

Bo Bichette Starting at Second, Batting Cleanup in Game 1 of World Series

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (knee) will start in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday night in Toronto against the Los Angeles Dodgers and left-hander Blake Snell, starting at second base and batting cleanup. Bichette will be playing in a big-league game for the first time in seven weeks due to a PCL sprain in his left knee, and this will be his first time at the keystone since 2019 while at Triple-A Buffalo. He was one of the best hitters in baseball during the regular season, but those setting DFS lineups should probably expect some element of rust, especially against a pitcher who has been downright dominant in October. Bichette hasn't fared well in nine career at-bats against Snell, either, recording just one hit with two walks and four strikeouts against him. Andres Gimenez will remain at the 6 for Toronto and will hit ninth in the batting order.

Bo Bichette Makes World Series Roster

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (knee) is officially on the team's roster for the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. Bichette will be available to Toronto for the first time this postseason and for the first time in seven weeks due to a sprained PCL in his left knee that he suffered in early September. The All-Star is not expected to play shortstop during the World Series, though, which means that he will either serve as the designated hitter (which will push George Springer to the outfield) or play second base. The 27-year-old was one of the best hitters in baseball this year, slashing .311/.357/.483 with an .840 OPS, 18 home runs, 94 RBI, and 78 runs in 582 at-bats. Toronto will need all the help it can get on offense to keep up with the Dodgers, but there's no guarantee Bichette will be in the same form he was over seven weeks ago.

All Options on the Table for Bo Bichette in World Series

Toronto Blue Jays All-Star shortstop Bo Bichette (knee) will face live pitching on Thursday, according to manager John Schneider. Bichette has also been taking ground balls, running, and hitting over the last few days. Schneider said there's "still a few more boxes to check," and "we're kind of coming right down to the wire with it" in terms of his availability for the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, which starts on Friday night in Toronto. If Bichette is included on the World Series roster, the skipper said that starting him at designated hitter, shortstop, or second base is all on the table. For what it's worth, Scheider said that Bichette "looked more than comfortable" when he played second in the minors. If Bichette is active and serves as the DH, it would require George Springer to play the outfield. Getting Bichette back in the lineup would be a huge boost to Toronto's lineup, although there could be plenty of rust since he hasn't played in a big-league game since early September.

Bo Bichette Plans to be Ready for World Series

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (knee) said, "I'll be ready," when asked about his availability for the upcoming World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Rob Longley of The Toronto Star. The Blue Jays were victorious over the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series on Monday night, advancing to the World Series (which starts on Friday) and giving the 27-year-old All-Star a chance to make his return for the first time since suffering a PCL sprain in his left knee in early September. He will need to be able to run full speed this week at some point to be cleared to be on the World Series roster. Bichette was one of the best hitters in baseball during the regular season, with a .311 average and 94 RBI, but the rust factor must be considered, since he hasn't faced live pitching in a game in over six weeks.

Bo Bichette Making "Significant Progress" Behind the Scenes

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (knee) has been making "significant progress" behind the scenes lately, according to manager John Schneider. Bichette has been unable to play in the postseason due to a PCL sprain in his left knee that he suffered in early September. The 27-year-old is making progress, but it remains to be seen if he'll be available to play in the World Series against the Los Angeles Dodgers if the Blue Jays can beat the Seattle Mariners in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series on Monday. Game 1 of this year's World Series doesn't begin until Friday, so if Toronto advances, Bichette will have another couple of days to try and gain clearance from his knee injury. The Blue Jays could really use the former second-rounder if they advance to try and knock off the Dodgers, as Bichette was one of the best hitters in all of baseball during the regular season, with a .311 average and 181 hits in 139 games played.

Bo Bichette Eyeing Return as Running and Swinging Progress Continue

Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette (knee) has increased his running workload but has not yet advanced to running the bases, according to manager John Schneider. Bichette has been sidelined since September 7 with a left knee sprain and was ruled out for the ALCS. However, optimism remains that he could return if the Blue Jays reach the World Series. Schneider added that Bichette's swing has shown significant improvement, offering a positive sign for Toronto fans.
