Cade Cavalli Strikes Out 10, Earns First Win on Wednesday

Washington Nationals right-hander Cade Cavalli was hit around a bit in Wednesday's victory over the division-rival New York Mets, but he still managed to pick up his first win of the 2026 season, allowing two earned runs on eight hits (one homer) while walking two and striking out 10 in six innings. It was Cavalli's second quality start of the year, and he was able to generate 18 swings and misses despite giving up a season-high eight hits and his first home run of the year. It was nice to see the 27-year-old go deeper in an outing. He's now 1-1 with a 3.82 ERA (2.82 FIP) and 1.66 WHIP with 38 strikeouts and 14 walks in 30 2/3 innings pitched over his seven starts. Efficiency and length have been issues for Cavalli early in the 2026 campaign, but perhaps his outing on Wednesday will be a turning point. He has another plus matchup upcoming in his next scheduled outing versus the Minnesota Twins. Cavalli is currently rostered in only 13% of Yahoo leagues, but he could quickly become a popular waiver-wire pickup if he has a second straight strong outing.

Cade Cavalli Emerging as a High-Upside Waiver-Wire Option

Across 24 2/3 innings (six starts) so far this season, Washington Nationals starting pitcher Cade Cavalli has posted a 0-1 record with a 4.01 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and 28 strikeouts. While the 27-year-old's numbers don't necessarily jump off the page, he's coming off an impressive 10-strikeout performance against a strong Atlanta Braves lineup in his most recent appearance. Cavalli's elevated WHIP is largely due to his elevated 10.3% walk rate. However, he hasn't allowed a walk in either of his last two outings. The former top prospect is averaging 96.6 mph on his fastball and owns a solid 24.1% strikeout rate. Cavalli could be worth targeting on the waiver wire as a solid streaming starting pitcher with upside.

Cade Cavalli Punches Out 10 in Impressive Outing, Worth a Pickup?

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Cade Cavalli looked sharp on the mound during Thursday's outing against the Atlanta Braves. The right-hander tossed five innings, allowing two earned runs on five hits, while striking out 10 batters. He came out for the sixth inning, but was pulled after allowing a leadoff single. It didn't take long for the Nats' bullpen to blow this game, which will keep Cavalli out of the win column. The biggest problem for the right-hander this season has been an inability to work deep into games. Cavalli has only pitched into the sixth inning once in six starts. He'll take a 4.01 ERA, 1.66 WHIP, and a 28:18 K:BB ratio into his next outing against the New York Mets. He'll offer some streaming appeal against the struggling Mets offense.

Cade Cavalli Can Contribute from the Waiver Wire

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Cade Cavalli is set to make his third start of the season on Tuesday against the Cardinals, and he makes sense to consider if you need a starting pitcher pickup from the waiver wire. The 27-year-old righty has allowed a total of three earned runs in his first two starts of the season, picking up eight strikeouts in 9 2/3 innings in a pair of no-decisions. He looked strong in his last outing on the road against the Phillies, going six innings and allowing one run on five hits. He's in a favorable matchup at home against the Cardinals on Tuesday night and will be looking to turn in his second straight quality outing after struggling a little with his command in his first start of the season. If you're looking for solid innings off the waiver wire, Cavalli is a solid place to look on Tuesday.

Cade Cavalli Could be Worth Stashing

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Cade Cavalli got the Opening Day nod versus the Chicago Cubs on Thursday. The right-hander didn't work deep into the game as he only threw 3.2 innings before getting pulled at 75 pitches. He allowed three runs (two earned), on three hits, with three walks, and five strikeouts in the no-decision. The former first-round pick registered a 4.25 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and a 40:15 K/BB ratio across 10 starts last season. Cavalli showed some promising signs here, but he will have a tough challenge against the Philadelphia Phillies during his next time out. Fantasy managers should keep their eye on Cavalli right now.

Cade Cavalli Wraps Up Stellar Spring Training

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Cade Cavalli concluded a terrific stretch of spring training games on Saturday. Cavalli tossed five shutout innings with three hits, zero walks, and one strikeout against the New York Mets. His final Grapefruit League stat line includes four starts, 14 innings, one run, zero earned runs, four hits, two hit batters, one walk, and nine strikeouts. Outside of the low strikeout rate, it was a phenomenal spring for Cavalli, who will start for the Nats on Opening Day after MacKenzie Gore was traded away. In his first real taste of MLB action last year, Cavalli made 10 starts with a 3.93 xFIP, 7.44 K/9, 2.77 BB/9, and a 54.8% ground ball rate. He ranks #77 among starting pitchers in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball rankings for 2026.

Cade Cavalli on the Rise After Strong Spring Showing

Washington Nationals right-hander Cade Cavalli, who will start on Opening Day on March 26 against the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field, continues to boost his fantasy baseball stock going into the 2026 season with a strong spring performance. Cavalli, 27, has allowed just an unearned run on one hit while walking two and striking out nine in nine innings over his three Grapefruit League starts. The former first-round pick in 2020 out of the University of Oklahoma made his major-league debut in 2022 (one start), but he didn't return to the majors until 2025 after multiple setbacks following Tommy John surgery in 2023. In his 10 starts last year, he went 3-1 with a 4.25 ERA and 1.48 WHIP with 40 strikeouts and 15 walks in 48 2/3 innings. Not only did Cavalli look solid in his return in the second half of 2025, but he also displayed better velocity than before his right-elbow surgery. With strong results this spring, Cavalli's fantasy ADP is on the rise as an intriguing late-round flier for starting pitching depth in mixed leagues.

Cade Cavalli Avoids Arbitration with Nationals

Washington Nationals starting pitcher Cade Cavalli has avoided arbitration and agreed to a deal with the organization. The right-hander requested $900,000 from the Nats, while the team countered at $825,000. They've agreed to a one-year, $862,500 deal, which includes a $4 million club option for 2027. Cavalli is a former first-round pick of the Nats from the 2020 draft. Before 2025, Cavalli only made one start for the Nats, but got a larger opportunity last season. He registered a 4.25 ERA, 1.47 WHIP, and 40/15 K/BB ratio across 10 starts in 2025. The 27-year-old is expected to be in the Opening Day rotation and should be monitored as a potential breakout candidate.

Cade Cavalli to Start for Nationals on Wednesday

The Washington Nationals will call up right-hander Cade Cavalli from Triple-A Rochester to start against the Athletics on Wednesday, Grant Paulsen of 106.7 The Fan reports. It'll be the first appearance in the bigs for Cavalli since he made one start in 2022. The former first-round pick from the 2020 draft missed all of 2023 and most of 2024 after undergoing Tommy John surgery. Cavalli, 26, has come back to make 15 starts and throw 65 innings at the Triple-A level this season, but he has posted a bloated 6.09 ERA with a 1.45 WHIP and 72 strikeouts against 27 walks. While Cavalli doesn't look like a great option against an Athletics offense that ranks 12th in wOBA and 14th in runs scored, the out-of-contention Nats want to give him another look in the majors post-surgery.

Cade Cavalli Blasted For Seven Runs in Loss

Washington Nationals pitching prospect Cade Cavalli allowed seven runs on eight hits and two walks while striking out two in 3.2 innings in a loss against Triple-A Worcester. Cavalli generated only four swings-and-misses on 44 swings in this one, good for just a nine percent whiff rate. The right-hander now has consecutive starts in which he has surrendered seven runs, the most he has allowed in a game all season. Cavalli was coming off a rough month of June, where he held a 5.64 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 22.1 innings, and his first start in July will leave a mark. There were some whispers of Cavalli being promoted to join the Nationals rotation, but poor outings like this one leave some doubt for that to happen in the immediate future.
