Caleb Thielbar Earns Third Save Of Season Monday

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar earned his third save of the season in Monday's 3-1 win over the Mariners. Thielbar came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by two and delivered a 1-2-3 outing with two strikeouts. Closer Jhoan Duran was called upon to face the top of the order in the eighth inning, so Thielbar got the save opportunity. The 37-year-old veteran has gotten off to a rough start this season with a bloated 6.14 ERA in 7 1/3 innings pitched. His fantasy value will remain limited if he continues to pitch poorly, as it seems unlikely that he would earn high-leverage situations.

Caleb Thielbar To Start Season On Injured List

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar (hamstring) will be one of several of the team's pitching staff to start the 2024 season on the injured list, per the Athletic's Aaron Gleeman. Thielbar suffered a strained left hamstring early in camp and, while he progressed to throwing live batting practice last week, it was determined that the 37-year-old won't be ready in time to start the season. Thielbar had a successful 2023 season, earning 14 holds with a 3.23 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 30.0% strikeout rate in 30 2/3 innings pitched. Fantasy managers in saves-plus-holds leagues should look for additional information on a timetable for his return.

Caleb Thielbar Throws Another Bullpen Session Monday

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar (hamstring) threw his second bullpen session of March on Monday at close to full effort. The 37-year-old sustained a left hamstring strain during his conditioning exercises in late February. Thielbar performed well for the Twins last season, going 3-1 with 14 holds and a 3.23 ERA, 0.95 WHIP, and 30.0% strikeout rate in 30 2/3 innings pitched. His current role limits his fantasy value in most leagues, but his numbers do make him worth a look in deeper saves-plus-holds leagues.

Caleb Thielbar Placed On The Injured List

Minnesota Twins left-handed pitcher Caleb Thielbar (hamstring) has been placed on the injured list. It's a left hamstring strain for the 35-year-old reliever, who's worked a 4.84 ERA, 1.30 WHIP, and 47:15 K/BB ratio across 35 1/3 innings out of the Twins' bullpen. As of now, it's unclear how long he will be sidelined but hamstrings can be tricky so a maximum stint on the IL wouldn't be surprising. Yennier Cano was recalled from Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Caleb Thielbar Picks Up First Win

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar picked up his first win of the season in Wednesday's victory over the Seattle Mariners. Thielbar was quite effective in his first appearance since being activated off the injured list, as he pitched two scoreless frames while fanning four batters. The veteran righty improved his season ERA to 4.30, though Statcast believes it's largely been earned due to a lot of hard contact allowed. Thielbar can be ignored in fantasy formats because of that, despite his strong 34.7 percent strikeout rate.

Caleb Thielbar Placed On Injured List

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar (groin) has been placed on the 10-day injured list. The veteran relief pitcher suffered a groin strain while pitching on Wednesday. It sounds like he'll likely be sidelined for a few weeks. The Twins have recalled right-hander Shaun Anderson to take his spot on the active roster. Anderson pitched well in a short stint with the Twins last season. However, he'll likely be pitching in low leverage situations, so there won't be much fantasy value here.

Caleb Thielbar Exits Due To Injury

Minnesota Twins relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar (groin) was forced to exit early during Wednesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. He exited the game with the help of Twins assistant athletic trainer Matt Biancuzzo mid-way through the seventh inning. Alex Colome subbed into the game to record the final out of the inning. The organization has not given details on Thielbar's injury. He has been a fairly reliable option out of the Twins bullpen, but doesn't offer much fantasy value.

Max Kepler, Kyle Garlick, Caleb Thielbar Placed On COVID-19 Injured List

Minnesota Twins outfielder Max Kepler (COVID-19), outfielder Kyle Garlick (COVID-19), and relief pitcher Caleb Thielbar (COVID-19) have been placed on the COVID-19 injured list Tuesday. Garlick had tested positive for the virus, and it seems likely that Kepler and Thielbar also did- given the team's recent outbreak- so fantasy managers may be without them for the remainder of the week. The club reinstated Brent Rooker from the injured list and recalled infielder Travis Blankenhorn. Lewis Thorpe will be the 27th man on the roster for the doubleheader. With no minimum amount of time required on the COVID injured list, the hope is that all three players will return to action sooner rather than later.
