Carson Palmquist Returning to Major Leagues

The Colorado Rockies are promoting left-handed pitching prospect Carson Palmquist to the major leagues before their contest on Friday evening against the Pittsburgh Pirates. The No. 7-ranked prospect in the Colorado system on MLB.com made his MLB debut earlier this season and logged 30 2/3 innings to the tune of a 7.36 ERA and a 1.73 WHIP. During this stint, the southpaw struck out just 22 hitters and had weak command of his pitches as he posted a hefty 12.2% walk rate. He also placed in the first percentile in xERA, seventh percentile in hard-hit rate, and first percentile in barrel rate. Given his minimal strikeout upside and the significant amount of loud contact he allows, fantasy managers should not consider targeting him on the waiver wire.

Carson Palmquist Recalled, Starting on Monday

Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Carson Palmquist was recalled from Triple-A Albuquerque on Sunday. Palmquist will head back to the big league roster with fellow starter Kyle Freeland (back) heading to the injured list. Palmquist struggled during his first stint with the Rockies. He posted a 7.77 ERA across 22 innings (five starts) with the Rockies before being sent down. The rookie southpaw is back and will take the ball against the Washington Nationals on Monday. Given his struggles, Palmquist isn't a recommended streaming option for Monday's slate.

Carson Palmquist Heads Back to Minors

The Colorado Rockies announced on Thursday that they optioned left-handed pitching prospect Carson Palmquist to Triple-A Albuquerque and recalled right-hander Anthony Molina from Albuquerque in a corresponding move. It's back to the farm for more seasoning for the 24-year-old southpaw after he struggled in his first five big-league starts, going 0-4 with a 7.77 ERA and 1.82 WHIP with 16 strikeouts and 13 walks in 22 innings pitched. It's quite possible that fellow lefty Austin Gomber (shoulder) will come off the 60-day injured list to replace Palmquist in Colorado's starting rotation. Per MLB Pipeline, Palmquist is considered the team's No. 7 prospect. He doesn't have overpowering stuff on the mound but has plenty of deception in his delivery and with his lower arm slot. Obviously, he's going to need to throw more strikes in the big leagues to have success.

Carson Palmquist Expected to Start on Friday Evening

Colorado Rockies left-handed pitching prospect Carson Palmquist is expected to make his MLB debut this evening against the Arizona Diamondbacks. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to the contest in case they opt to have him serve in a long relief role. The 24-year-old is currently considered the No. 9-ranked prospect in the system on MLB.com. Through the early part of the Triple-A regular season, the southpaw has held a 3.82 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP across 35 1/3 innings of work. Palmquist has struck out 45 batters and served up 18 walks. Last summer, Palmquist made his Triple-A debut and posted a much higher 5.86 ERA with a 1.84 WHIP over an identical 35 1/3-inning stint. Given his modest showing at Triple-A, fantasy managers should only view Palmquist as a desperation streaming option in NL-only formats, facing a potent Arizona lineup.

Carson Palmquist Rebounds In Second Start

Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Carson Palmquist enjoyed a strong bounce-back outing on Thursday evening. After stumbling in his season debut as he allowed three hits and four earned runs across four 1/3 innings of work, Palmquist was able to get in the win column on Thursday. In this outing, Palmquist shut down Triple-A Sugar Land as he logged five innings of one-run ball with a 1:7 BB:K. He allowed just three hits. Last summer, the 24-year-old southpaw spent most of his time with Double-A before earning a late-season taste of Triple-A. With Double-A, Palmquist logged 87 1/3 innings of work and held a strong 3.17 ERA with a 1.12 WHIP. He tallied 113 punchouts in this stint. If Palmquist continues to improve at Triple-A, he should be in the mix for an MLB debut in the second half.

Carson Palmquist Takes Home Player Of The Week Honors

After a dominant performance to open the month of July, Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Carson Palmquist has won the Player of the Week honors in the Eastern League as a member of Double-A Hartford. Palmquist was stellar over seven scoreless innings of one-hit ball, that saw him send down 13 batters via the strikeout with one walk. The 23-year-old has been a strikeout machine since being selected in the third-round of the 2022 MLB draft and has recorded 92 strikeouts in 65 2/3 innings this season. The left-hander is the ranked as the No. 14 prospect per MLB Pipeline and offers plenty of control with a funky sidearm delivery, but some scouts project that he may be best off as a reliever in the future. For now, Palmquist is nothing more then a watch-list candidate in dynasty formats.

Carson Palmquist Solid Over Five Innings For Double-A Hartford

Colorado Rockies starting pitching prospect Carson Palmquist fanned five over five innings of work on Thursday for Double-A Hartford. He allowed two runs on five hits, adding to his impressive strikeout total. His 74 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings give him the highest strikeout rate in Double-A this season. The No. 14 prospect for the Rockies is (4-2) with a 3.02 ERA this year for the Yard Goats. The 6-foot-3 left-hander is not a flamethrower, but his deceptiveness often makes it challenging for hitters to make contact. The high strikeout rate is precisely what fantasy managers look for in a starting pitcher. While pitching at Coors Field makes for a scary proposition, Palmquist has the tools to be a successful big-league pitcher when he does get the opportunity.

Carson Palmquist Tosses Six-Inning Gem

Colorado Rockies pitching prospect Carson Palmquist threw six shutout innings on Friday. He allowed only four hits, one free pass, and struck out ten. The number 15 overall prospect in the Colorado system has been dominant to begin the season as he has yet to allow a run and holds a minuscule 0.94 WHIP across 16 innings at Double-A. This is a vast improvement compared to the 22 innings he logged at Double-A last season, where he posted a 4.43 ERA and 1.25 WHIP. Palmquist is a name worth monitoring in dynasty leagues and could make a push for a late-season promotion if he continues to dominate the minor leagues.
