New York Yankees right-handed pitching prospect Chase Hampton (groin), who is ranked by MLB Pipeline as the team's No. 3 prospect, left his minor-league start early on Saturday due to a groin injury. As a result, Hampton was placed on the seven-day injured list at Double-A Somerset on Tuesday. The 23-year-old has already missed extended time in 2024 with elbow and shoulder issues, so this is the latest setback for the high-end prospect. The former sixth-rounder in 2022 from Texas Tech has only been able to make seven starts this year at three minor-league levels because of his injuries, posting a 2.41 ERA and 1.07 WHIP with 16 K's and nine walks in 18 2/3 innings. Hampton can spin the ball with the best of them and has plenty of deception to his pitches. Despite his injuries in 2024, he could make his major-league debut in 2025 if he can stay healthy.

Chase Hampton, Spencer Jones Invited To Spring Training
The New York Yankees have invited prospects Chase Hampton and Spencer Jones, the team's top pitching prospect and position-player prospect, respectively, to big-league spring training this year. Hampton, 22, was a sixth-round pick in 2022 and is ranked as the team's No. 4 prospect and No. 92 overall in baseball by MLB Pipeline. He went 4-3 with a 3.63 ERA in 20 starts for High-A Hudson Valley and Double-A Somerset in 2023 with 145 strikeouts, ranking sixth among Yankees farmhands in K's. Jones, 22, was the team's first-round pick in 2022 and is ranked as the team's top prospect and No. 84 overall. The left-handed-hitting slugger hit .267/.336/.444 with 29 doubles, 16 homers and 66 RBI in 117 games with Hudson Valley and Somerset last year. He projects to open this year at Double-A.
