Chris Bassitt Throws Bullpen Session on Saturday

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Chris Bassitt (back) threw a successful bullpen session on Saturday. Bassitt was pulled from his most recent start on Wednesday due to a back issue. The successful bullpen session is a positive sign, but it's unclear if Bassitt will be available to make his next scheduled start against the Seattle Mariners on Sunday. The O's are likely going to need to make a final decision on his status by the end of the weekend. He owns a 5.27 ERA, 1.63 WHIP, and a 37:22 K:BB ratio across 12 appearances this season. Even when healthy, Bassitt isn't anything more than a deep league option.

Chris Bassitt on Track to Make his Next Start on Monday

Baltimore Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said that right-hander Chris Bassitt (back) is traveling on Friday to rejoin the club, and as long as his back checks out, he should make his next start on Monday versus the Seattle Mariners, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. Bassitt was pulled from his last start on Thursday against the Boston Red Sox due to tightness in his lower back, but it apparently isn't that big of a deal and won't cause him to miss a turn in the starting rotation. Even though the 37-year-old veteran has escaped a serious injury, we wouldn't recommend him as a streamer to begin next week against the M's, who currently rank 12th in the majors with a .715 team OPS. Bassitt is nearing the end of his career and is currently 4-4 with a 5.27 ERA (4.77 FIP) and 1.63 WHIP with 37 strikeouts and 22 walks in 56 1/3 innings across his 12 outings (10 starts) in his first year in Baltimore. He's sporting a career-low 14.2% strikeout rate, which is why he's rostered in only 11% of Yahoo leagues.

Chris Bassitt Heads to Baltimore to Have his Back Examined

Baltimore Orioles right-hander Chris Bassitt (back) flew to Baltimore to have his lower-back tightness checked out by team doctors, according to Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner. The Orioles will know more about Bassitt's condition later after he was pulled from his start early on Wednesday against the division-rival Boston Red Sox after three innings. As things currently stand, Bassitt's next scheduled start against the Seattle Mariners on Monday is very much up in the air, and depending on what the team doctors see, he could be a candidate to go on the 15-day injured list. Now 37 years old in his 12th year in the big leagues, Bassitt has struggled to a 4-4 record with a 5.27 ERA (4.77 FIP) and 1.63 WHIP with only 37 strikeouts and 22 walks in 56 1/3 innings across his 12 appearances (10 starts) in his first year in Baltimore. Even if Bassitt checks out fine and is cleared to make his next start on Monday against Seattle, fantasy managers should be looking to avoid him as a streamer. He's currently rostered in only 12% of Yahoo leagues.

Chris Bassitt Exits with Back Tightness

Baltimore Orioles starting pitcher Chris Bassitt (back) was removed early during Wednesday's outing against the Boston Red Sox. Bassitt was pulled after three innings of work due to lower-back tightness. Before exiting, Bassitt allowed three earned runs on six hits and walked two batters. He was replaced on the mound by Andrew Suarez in the fourth inning. The O's should provide an update on Bassitt's status following Wednesday's game. For now, Bassitt is scheduled to take the mound against the Seattle Mariners on Monday. Fantasy managers will need to check back for another update on his status.

Chris Bassitt, Orioles Agree on One-Year Deal

Free-agent right-hander Chris Bassitt and the Baltimore Orioles agreed on a one-year, $18.5 million contract on Wednesday night, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. The 36-year-old now joins an overhauled Orioles rotation that also includes Shane Baz, Zach Eflin, Kyle Bradish, Trevor Rogers, and Dean Kremer. Bassitt will stay in the American League East after going 11-9 with a 3.96 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 166:52 K:BB in 170 1/3 innings over 32 regular-season outings (31 starts) in 2025 with the Toronto Blue Jays. The veteran hurler isn't overpowering (career 22% strikeout rate), but he does an excellent job at avoiding hard contact. Bassitt was in the 85th percentile last year in average exit velocity and the 80th percentile in hard-hit rate, and he's made at least 30 starts each year since 2022. At his age, fantasy managers know what they are getting: a safe, dependable back-end starter with a limited ceiling.

Braves Showing Interest in Lucas Giolito, Chris Bassitt

The Atlanta Braves have shown interest in free-agent right-handed pitchers Lucas Giolito and Chris Bassitt, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Giolito hit the open market after a season in Boston, and because he doesn't carry a qualifying offer, the Braves wouldn't have to forfeit a draft selection for signing him. He tossed 145 innings across 26 starts in 2025, posting a 3.41 ERA, 7.51 K/9, and 3.48 BB/9. The 31-year-old's 4.59 xFIP suggests he may have gotten lucky at times last season, but the results were enough to keep Giolito entrenched in the No. 2 starter role behind Garrett Crochet. If he joins the Braves, he'd slot in behind a different Cy Young candidate southpaw in Chris Sale. Bassitt also found success in the AL East last year, pitching to a 3.84 xFIP with 8.77 K/9, 2.75 BB/9, and a 46.5% ground ball rate with the Blue Jays. He'll be 37 by Opening Day, so he's a bit older than Giolito, but he offers consistency after making at least 30 starts in each of the last four seasons. As it currently stands, Spencer Schwellenbach and Spencer Strider are in line to pitch after Sale in the Braves' rotation.

Chris Bassitt Linked to Tigers

According to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic, right-handed pitcher Chris Bassitt has been linked to the Tigers in free agency. The Tigers continue to pursue depth options for their organization and have also shown interest in signing former Boston Red Sox Lucas Giolito. After a disappointing 2024 campaign, in which the 36-year-old posted a 4.16 ERA with a 1.46 WHIP, Bassitt showed some improvement in 2025, logging 170 1/3 innings to the tune of a 3.96 ERA and a 1.33 WHIP. Bassitt generated an 80th percentile hard-hit rate and sat with a 4.16 xERA, suggesting he could face some minor regression in 2026. Bassitt continues to be a workhorse on the bump, making at least 30 starts for four straight seasons. The right-hander would hold high-volume SP5 value if he were to sign with the Tigers.

Chris Bassitt Sharp in Game 7 Victory as Blue Jays Punch Ticket to World Series

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Chris Bassitt made his second appearance of the 2025 postseason in Monday's winner-take-all Game 7 victory at home. Bassitt worked a clean eighth inning to set up closer Jeff Hoffman for the ninth, striking out one batter along the way. The veteran did not earn a rotation spot this postseason but has now provided eight strong outs for a Blue Jays team making its first World Series appearance in over three decades. Bassitt has yet to allow a run in the playoffs and has likely secured more meaningful innings in the upcoming matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. He owns a career 3.57 ERA and a 1.25 WHIP in the postseason.

Chris Bassitt Joins ALCS Roster

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt (back) joins the roster ahead of the upcoming ALCS versus the Seattle Mariners. Bassitt was left off the ALDS roster while he nursed a back injury he suffered in the middle of September. He appears to be healthy now and ready to help this team in the postseason. It's unclear if he'll be used as a traditional starter or out of the bullpen. Bassitt posted a 3.96 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and a 166/52 K/BB ratio across 31 starts in the regular season. The 36-year-old isn't an elite pitcher, but certainly does give this pitching staff a boost for this series.

Chris Bassitt Left Off Blue Jays ALDS Roster

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Chris Bassitt (back) has been left off the team's roster for its American League Division Series matchup against the New York Yankees. Bassitt is battling a back injury and last pitched in mid-September. The 36-year-old went 11-9 with a 3.96 ERA, 1.33 WHIP, and 166 strikeouts in 170 1/3 innings (31 starts) this season. Bassitt might have been a candidate to make a start in the series had he been healthy. Instead, it appears Toronto may be relying on a combination of rookie right-hander Trey Yesavage and veteran left-hander Eric Lauer at the back end of its rotation behind Kevin Gausman and Shane Bieber.
