Colby Thomas Getting Another Start on Friday

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas will get another start in center field on Friday evening when the Athletics face the Los Angeles Angels. Thomas has begun to heat up at the plate, and the team is rewarding their former third-round pick with more opportunities. Over his last five games, Thomas has been swinging a hot bat, going 5-for-13 with a double, a home run, and five RBI. During this stretch, Thomas has started in three of his last four games and appears to be carving out a role in center field. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his playing time. Earlier this season, Thomas flashed upside power upside at Triple-A Las Vegas, launching 18 home runs with a .903 OPS through 81 contests. This evening, he will face Los Angeles southpaw Yusei Kikuchi and will bat in the cleanup spot.

Colby Thomas Hits First Career MLB Home Run

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas hit his first MLB home run during their victory over the Washington Nationals on Thursday afternoon. Thomas tallied his lone hit of the game with a two-run shot in the opening frame off Mitchell Parker, which scored Darell Hernaiz. Later in the fourth, Thomas would tack on his third RBI of the contest with a sacrifice fly, which brought in Hernaiz for the second time. This is Thomas' second stint in the big leagues. Through 16 career games in the majors, Thomas has posted a modest .156/.243/.313 line. However, he has not seen consistent at-bats as the Athletics outfield is quite deep. For now, Thomas remains a target for deeper AL-only redraft leagues. If he can continue to produce, he could carve out a starting role for the 2026 season.

Colby Thomas Back Up in the Majors

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas was recalled from Triple-A Las Vegas on Tuesday. The corresponding move was Denzel Clarke being placed on the 10-day IL with a Grade 2 adductor strain. Thomas came up to the majors for a brief stint in early July, and had two hits in 15 at-bats. The 24-year-old has enjoyed a productive season with Triple-A Las Vegas, hitting .291/.366/.529 with 18 homers and seven stolen bases. There is some real appeal with Thomas as he has an intriguing blend of power and speed with the luxury of playing in one of the best hitter parks. There is some swing and miss, but he is worth targeting in deep leagues.

Colby Thomas Called Up From Triple-A

The Athletics announced on Monday that they selected the contract of outfielder prospect Colby Thomas from Triple-A Las Vegas. Thomas, the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, gets the call to the big leagues for the first time after hitting .297 (92-for-310) with 17 home runs, 21 doubles, two triples, 70 RBI, 63 runs scored and seven stolen bases in 76 games for the Aviators this year. The 24-year-old former third-rounder in 2022 out of Mercer University has raw power that could play immediately for those searching for outfield depth in deep-mixed and AL-only leagues, although he might be in more of a platoon role in his first taste of the big leagues. Over a full season, Thomas certainly has 20-plus-homer upside while also giving fantasy managers the potential four double-digit stolen bases. He's also capable of playing anywhere in the outfield, giving him a better avenue for regular playing time.

Colby Thomas Goes Deep on Wednesday

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas went 3-for-3 with a home run and three RBI in Wednesday's 7-1 win against Triple-A Sugar Land. Thomas clubbed his 17th home run, which ranks second among hitters at Triple-A. The 24-year-old has been hot in June, slashing .379/.389/.652 with five homers, three steals, and 21 RBI in 66 at-bats. A slight concern for Thomas would be his lack of walks and an elevated strikeout rate, but he has an intriguing blend of power and speed. Plus, he has a favorable home ballpark to play half his games in when he is eventually called up, which should come sometime this summer. He would be a solid speculative add at that time.

Colby Thomas Dominant at Triple-A

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas continues to swing a hot bat at Triple-A and is quickly approaching his MLB debut. Over his past 12 contests, Thomas has posted an impressive .375/.397/.714 slash line with four doubles, five home runs, and a stolen base. Through 61 total games with Triple-A Las Vegas, the No. 2-ranked prospect in the system has held a .301/.361/.568 line with 17 doubles, two triples, 16 home runs, and three stolen bases. During his first taste of Triple-A last season, Thomas was also just as productive, holding a .272/.344/.559 line across a 73-game stint. Fantasy managers should consider him a strong stash option going forward. Even though the Athletics do not have a spot in the lineup for him, his elite power upside is worth rostering.

Colby Thomas Homers in Four-Hit Game on Tuesday

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas had a big day at the plate on Tuesday for Triple-A Las Vegas, going 4-for-4 with a double, a home run, three RBI, and two runs scored. It was the 24-year-old's third home run in the last four games and 14th of the season. Now with 47 RBI, the right-handed slugger is the Pacific Coast League leader in that category. The former third-round draft pick is coming off a 31-home-run, 92-RBI season last year, and with 105 games under his belt now at Triple-A with a combined .282 BA between '24 and '25 at that level, he looks just about ready to take the next step. A high 26.8 percent strikeout rate is a bit of a concern, but a decent walk rate and loads of power could be enough to offset that, and the Athletics' second-ranked prospect should be up in the big leagues by the All-Star break. Power-needy managers in deeper and AL-only leagues should consider stashing him ahead of his eventual call-up.

Colby Thomas Blasts Three-Run Homer on Thursday

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas went 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBI in a blowout 16-3 win over Triple-A Sugar Land. The 24-year-old now has seven homers and a monstrous 1.064 OPS in May. His seven homers are the second most among Triple-A hitters in the month. There are some concerns, though, as he's prone to swinging and missing and has below-average walk rates during his time in the minors. However, Thomas still has plenty of intrigue, and his big-league opportunity could arrive soon. His combination of power and speed, paired with a hitter-friendly home ballpark, makes him a player to watch.

Colby Thomas Blasts Two-Run Homer On Thursday

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas went 1-for-4 with a two-run homer against Triple-A El Paso on Thursday. The 24-year-old crushed a 429-foot home run to bring his season slash line to a scorching .313/.376/.577. Thomas now ranks second in all the minor leagues with six home runs in May. The former Mercer product's quality of contact metrics also looks strong, with an 11% Barrel% and flashing a 115.9 MPH MaxEV. For perspective, that mark would rank just outside the top 10 for the highest in MLB. Thomas should be expected to be promoted sometime in the early summer, and his upside makes him worthy of picking up. He is currently ranked as the No. 2 prospect in the Athletics system on MLB.com.

Colby Thomas Has Two Home Runs In Three-Hit Game

Athletics outfield prospect Colby Thomas is the latest A's prospect hurtling towards the major leagues after he registered two home runs and a double in a 3-for-6 day at the plate on Tuesday for Triple-A Las Vegas. The 24-year-old also collected two RBI and three runs scored in the contest. Over the last seven games, the Athletics' second-ranked prospect has tallied five multi-hit efforts, pushing his season-long slash line to .305/.370/.557 with seven home runs, 25 RBI, 27 runs scored, and two stolen bases. The former third-round draft pick hasn't hit less than .272 at any level since his ascension from Single-A back in 2023, and last season he belted 31 home runs in 132 games between Double and Triple-A. The right-handed slugger looks to be on track for a mid-season call-up, and those looking for a power boost should consider him as he'll be playing in a formidable A's lineup in addition to calling hitter-friendly Sutter Health Park home when not on the road.
