Trea Turner News
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner (calf) is back in the starting lineup on Wednesday, starting at shortstop and batting third against Arizona Diamondbacks right-hander Zach Davies. Turner was removed from the second game of the doubleheader on Tuesday with minor calf soreness, but it's not serious enough to keep him out on Wednesday. The 28-year-old star shortstop is currently riding a 10-game hitting streak in which he's batting .359 with a home run, four doubles, seven RBI, seven runs scored and two stolen bases. Turner is always a must-start fantasy asset when he's in the Dodgers lineup.
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner helped lead the team to a pair of victories in the team's doubleheader against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Tuesday. He went 3-for-8 with a home run, five RBI and two runs scored across the two-game set. The 28-year-old has now recorded at least one hit in 10 straight games. He's tallied four doubles, two stolen bases and seven runs over the 10-game stretch. Over 36 games on the season, he has a .281 batting average. The only major disappointment so far has been his power output as he has only two home runs and he's slugging just. 403.
Los Angeles Dodgers shortstop Trea Turner is off to a slow start offensively in the month of May. Through seven games, he's gone just 5-for-28 at the plate, slashing .179/.233/.214. He has just one extra-base hit (a double) and he has yet to attempt a stolen base. It's been an underwhelming start to the year overall for Turner as he's slugging just .346 with only one home run. However, fantasy managers should be confident that better power numbers lie ahead. He currently has a minuscule 4.0% HR/FB rate. He's making good contact with a 46.3% hard-hit rate and a 90.2 mph average exit velocity, but his average launch angle is just 4.1 degrees. We should see the 28-year-old start racking up homers once he starts getting under the ball more consistently.

Since 2019, Trea Turner has been a regular first-round pick in fantasy drafts, but in 2022 Turner is going as the number one overall pick, more than anyone. Having second base and shortstop eligibility is part of that but the big reason is his consistency at contributing in all five fantasy categories. Between 2016 to 2019, Turner averaged 114 games with 16 homers and 39 stolen bases, while hitting .293/.349/.470. In 2020's shortened season, Turner had 12 homers and 12 steals in 59 games which equates to 33 home runs and 33 stolen bases over 162 games. In 2021, Turner had a .328 average with 28 homers and 31 steals in 148 games. He also had career highs in runs (107) and RBI (77), aided by the trade to the Dodgers. Playing in LA should help Turner with those counting stats as he'll be surrounded by a better lineup. And if he maintains the increase in fly balls after having a career-high 23.5% FB% in 2021, he should be able to repeat last year's career-high 28 home runs. With stolen bases more in demand than ever, Turner's career 162-game average of 48 steals while contributing across all other categories makes him worthy of being the number one overall pick.
