Jesus Luzardo Continues to be Volatile in Second Season With Phillies

After a three-start stretch where he didn't allow more than two earned runs, Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo fell apart again in his latest outing on Friday against the Colorado Rockies, allowing six earned runs on six hits (one homer) while walking three and striking out six in a season-low three innings of work. The 28-year-old southpaw is now 3-3 on the year with a bloated 5.98 ERA (2.96 FIP) and 1.39 WHIP with 57 strikeouts and 12 walks in 43 2/3 innings over his eight starts for Philly. He has failed to go five innings in three of his eight starts and has allowed five-plus runs in four of his outings so far. At this point, fantasy managers may not know what to do with him. Opponents are currently hitting .278 against him, but Luzardo holds an expected average of just .236, while the difference in his wOBA (.334) and xwOBA (.286) also shows that he's been hit with some pretty bad luck early on. Luzardo also ranks in the 91st percentile in strikeout rate and 82nd percentile in walk rate. He's a prime buy-low candidate, and he could easily dominate his next time out against the struggling Boston Red Sox.

Jesus Luzardo Pummeled by Cubs on Wednesday

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo had a start to forget on Wednesday night in the team's 11-2 loss to the Chicago Cubs at Citizens Bank Park. Luzardo lost his third game of the year, surrendering nine runs (eight earned) on 12 hits (one homer) while walking one and striking out four in 5 1/3 innings of work. He allowed six earned runs in six innings in his first start of the year on March 29 against the Texas Rangers, and he also gave up five earned runs in 4 2/3 frames in his last start versus the Arizona Diamondbacks on April 10. The 28-year-old southpaw now has an ugly 7.94 ERA (2.89 FIP) and 1.45 WHIP with 30 strikeouts and only five walks in 22 2/3 innings over his four starts in 2026. Luzardo has allowed a league-high 20 earned runs, but with a 2.89 FIP, it looks like he's dealt with some bad luck early on. Fantasy managers might want to consider benching him in a rematch with the Cubs next week at Wrigley Field, but they shouldn't panic just yet with Luzardo.

Jesus Luzardo Dominates Rockies on Saturday

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo was dominant on Saturday in his first win of the 2026 season against the Colorado Rockies, allowing just one earned run on five hits while walking none and striking out 11 in 6 2/3 innings of work at Coors Field in Denver. It was a nice bounce-back outing early on for the 28-year-old southpaw, as he was greeted harshly in his season debut last week by the Texas Rangers, allowing six runs in six innings. Fantasy managers should have had Luzardo in their starting lineups on Saturday against the Rockies despite his rough opening start. In his dominant outing, he generated 23 swinging strikes. The former third-round pick by the Washington Nationals in 2016 is a high-upside strikeout arm on one of the best teams in baseball, giving him plenty of fantasy appeal in his third year in Philly. Fantasy managers will want to keep him active in his next scheduled outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Jesus Luzardo, Phillies Agree on Five-Year Extension

Left-hander Jesus Luzardo and the Philadelphia Phillies agreed to a five-year, $135 million contract extension on Monday, sources told Jeff Passan of ESPN. The 28-year-old southpaw was set to become a free agent after the 2026 season. His new deal will begin in 2027 and will help the Phillies lock up one of the best young arms in the game. The 28-year-old Luzardo also will have a $32.5 million option for the 2032 season. On one of the better teams in baseball, Luzardo ranks No. 17 on RotoBaller's fantasy starting pitcher rankings after he went 15-7 with a 3.92 ERA (2.90 FIP), 1.22 WHIP, and 216:57 K:BB in 183 2/3 innings over 32 starts. It was the second time he's reached the 200-strikeout mark in the last three years, and he finished seventh in the National League Cy Young voting. He's not quite ace material in fantasy, but he's not far behind because of his strikeout upside.

Jesus Luzardo, Phillies Not Discussing Contract Extension

Philadelphia Phillies left-handed starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo has yet to begin discussions for a contract extension with the club. However, Charlotte Varnes of The Athletic reported that the team could look ot start preliminary discussions once spring training begins. Team president Dave Dombrowski has expressed interest in the southpaw, and both sides could look to discuss it before the regular season begins. Earlier this offseason, both sides agreed to an $11 million contract to avoid arbitration. Luzardo made his Phillies debut in 2025 and performed quite well, tossing a career-high 183 2/3 innings and posting a 3.92 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP. He struck out 216 hitters and generated a strong 3.33 xERA. Lucardo projects to remain the team's No. 2 pitcher, behind Cristopher Sanchez, while Zack Wheeler (shoulder) works his way back from injury. Given his high strikeout upside, Luzardo holds mid-end SP2 upside in all formats.

Jesus Luzardo Reaches Agreement With Phillies to Avoid Arbitration

According to Ari Alexander of 7News, the Philadelphia Phillies have agreed to a one-year, $11 million contract with left-handed starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo. Luzardo enjoyed an impressive debut season in Philadelphia after spending the first six of his MLB seasons in Oakland and Miami. With the Phillies, Luzardo made a high 32 stats and posted a 3.92 ERA with a 1.22 WHIP. Through 183 2/3 innings of work, Luzardo struck out 216 batters, which marked a career high. However, the 28-year-old generated an above-average 3.36 xERA with a .230 xBA, suggesting his production could take another step forward in 2026. Managers should expect Luzardo to open the season as a key part of the starting rotation with Zack Wheeler's status in doubt and carry high-end SP3 upside.

Jesus Luzardo Named Game 2 Starter

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo has been named the starting pitcher for Game 2 of the NLDS. After a 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, the Phillies will need Luzardo to get them a big win on Monday. This season, Luzardo registered a 3.92 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 216/57 K/BB ratio across 32 starts. There have certainly been some blowups for Luzardo, but he has mostly been solid. His latest outing he threw seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts on September 24. The high strikeout numbers give him good DFS value for Monday's slate.

Jesus Luzardo Strikes Out 10 in Win

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo earned his 14th win of the season in a 6-4 victory over the Mets on Thursday. He allowed four runs on five hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts in eight innings. All of the damage against the 27-year-old came in the first inning, as he quickly settled in for seven perfect frames following the rough start. This was his sixth double-digit strikeout performance of the season, and he remains one of the most unhittable pitchers in the game when everything is working right. The lefty sits with a 4.03 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 200 strikeouts, and 56 walks in 169 innings on the season.

Jesus Luzardo Racks Up Eight Strikeouts

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo had his swing-and-miss stuff going for him during Saturday's outing. Luzardo was brilliant early on as he tossed three scoreless innings. He was hit around for two runs on four hits in the fourth inning. However, Luzardo settled down and continued to have success after that. He finished with six innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight batters in the win over the Miami Marlins. He was a bit wild with four walks, but overall it was a good day for fantasy managers. Luzardo will take a 4.01 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 190/56 K/BB ratio into his next outing against the New York Mets.

Jesus Luzardo Stifles Giants for Eighth Win

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo (8-5) secured his eighth win of the year in a 13-0 blowout of the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. Across seven innings and 106 pitches, Luzardo gave up a paltry three singles and logged seven strikeouts against one walk. The outing continued a roller-coaster ride over the past month-plus for Luzardo, who has mixed a few good starts with a few blowups since May 31. He now has 10 quality starts on the year to go with a 4.14 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and 122:36 K:BB in 104 1/3 innings. Luzardo has been wildly unpredictable, but his 2.68 FIP, 3.23 xFIP, and .370 BABIP indicate that he's in line for positive regression in the second half of the season.
