Jesus Luzardo Named Game 2 Starter

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo has been named the starting pitcher for Game 2 of the NLDS. After a 5-3 loss to the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday, the Phillies will need Luzardo to get them a big win on Monday. This season, Luzardo registered a 3.92 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, and a 216/57 K/BB ratio across 32 starts. There have certainly been some blowups for Luzardo, but he has mostly been solid. His latest outing he threw seven shutout innings with 10 strikeouts on September 24. The high strikeout numbers give him good DFS value for Monday's slate.

Jesus Luzardo Strikes Out 10 in Win

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo earned his 14th win of the season in a 6-4 victory over the Mets on Thursday. He allowed four runs on five hits and no walks with 10 strikeouts in eight innings. All of the damage against the 27-year-old came in the first inning, as he quickly settled in for seven perfect frames following the rough start. This was his sixth double-digit strikeout performance of the season, and he remains one of the most unhittable pitchers in the game when everything is working right. The lefty sits with a 4.03 ERA, 1.26 WHIP, 200 strikeouts, and 56 walks in 169 innings on the season.

Jesus Luzardo Racks Up Eight Strikeouts

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo had his swing-and-miss stuff going for him during Saturday's outing. Luzardo was brilliant early on as he tossed three scoreless innings. He was hit around for two runs on four hits in the fourth inning. However, Luzardo settled down and continued to have success after that. He finished with six innings of work, allowing two runs on five hits while striking out eight batters in the win over the Miami Marlins. He was a bit wild with four walks, but overall it was a good day for fantasy managers. Luzardo will take a 4.01 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and a 190/56 K/BB ratio into his next outing against the New York Mets.

Jesus Luzardo Stifles Giants for Eighth Win

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo (8-5) secured his eighth win of the year in a 13-0 blowout of the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday. Across seven innings and 106 pitches, Luzardo gave up a paltry three singles and logged seven strikeouts against one walk. The outing continued a roller-coaster ride over the past month-plus for Luzardo, who has mixed a few good starts with a few blowups since May 31. He now has 10 quality starts on the year to go with a 4.14 ERA, a 1.41 WHIP, and 122:36 K:BB in 104 1/3 innings. Luzardo has been wildly unpredictable, but his 2.68 FIP, 3.23 xFIP, and .370 BABIP indicate that he's in line for positive regression in the second half of the season.

Jesus Luzardo Blanks Mets to Notch Win No. 7

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings in Sunday's 7-1 win against the New York Mets. He yielded three hits and issued one free pass, striking out seven to improve to 7-3 through 16 starts. The Peruvian native was stellar, scattering three singles and piling up 18 swinging strikes to notch a 33% CSW against an excellent Mets lineup. Luzardo has had a few rough outings in recent weeks that have ballooned his ERA and WHIP, but he's brought them back down to a less-ugly 4.08 and 1.37 with two starts of one earned run or fewer over his last three. He'll try to keep it rolling later this week against the Atlanta Braves on the road.

Jesus Luzardo Bounces Back With 10-Strikeout Performance Against Cubs

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo was in the early National League Cy Young conversation before allowing 20 earned runs on 21 hits (three homers) while walking five and striking out six in just 5 2/3 innings in his last two starts against the Milwaukee Brewers and Toronto Blue Jays. The 27-year-old southpaw was able to get back on track in Wednesday's 7-2 win over the visiting Chicago Cubs, giving up just one earned run on five hits while walking none and fanning 10 in six innings of work to pick up his sixth win of the season. It appears his last two starts were just a blip on the radar and he's now back on track after shutting down one of the best offenses in baseball in the Cubs. Luzardo remains a must-start in fantasy and has an excellent matchup next up on the docket next week against his former team, the Miami Marlins.

Jesus Luzardo Shelled in Loss to Blue Jays

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo (5-2) turned in his second straight disastrous start Thursday in a 9-1 loss to the Toronto Blue Jays. Luzardo lasted 2 1/3 innings and surrendered eight earned runs on nine hits while striking out two and walking a pair. The 27-year-old had jumped out to a spectacular start this season until the wheels began falling off last Saturday in a loss to the Milwaukee Brewers. They teed off on Luzardo for 12 earned runs on 12 hits in 3 1/3 innings. Between that performance and his outing Thursday, Luzardo yielded a shocking 20 earned runs in a 5 2/3-inning span. As a result, Luzardo's ERA has soared from 2.15 to 4.46 over the past week. The 27-year-old still carries an outstanding 83:24 K:BB through 72 2/3 frames, while predictive metrics such as FIP (2.90) and xFIP (3.20) are bullish on him. However, fantasy managers may not regard Luzardo as a must-start option anymore. He looks like an ultra-risky play for his next scheduled start against an elite Chicago Cubs offense on Tuesday.

Jesus Luzardo Has Disastrous Day in Loss to Brewers

Philadelphia Phillies left-hander Jesus Luzardo (5-1) took his first loss of the season in a 17-7 beating at the hands of the Milwaukee Brewers on Saturday. Luzardo lasted just 3 1/3 innings and allowed a stunning 12 earned runs on 12 hits with four strikeouts and three walks. He surrendered a pair of three-run homers to first baseman Rhys Hoskins before the Phillies finally lifted him from the game. It was the first time Luzardo allowed more than three earned runs in a start this year. The blowup caused Luzardo's ERA to skyrocket by almost a run and a half, but he still carries a solid 3.58 mark with 81 strikeouts and 22 walks through 70 1/3 innings. Considering how well the 27-year-old has pitched for the vast majority of the season, he should be able to bounce back against the Pittsburgh Pirates' below-average offense next Friday.

Jesus Luzardo Records 10 Strikeouts

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo was once again sharp on the mound during Sunday's start against the Athletics. Luzardo was hit around early as he gave up three runs in the first inning. After that, Luzardo settled down and pitched extremely well for the rest of the game. He finished his day with seven innings of work, allowing three earned runs on nine hits while striking out 10 batters in the no-decision. He exited the game with the lead, but the Phillies bullpen was unable to hold the lead. He'll take a 2.15 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 77/19 K/BB ratio into his next start against the Milwaukee Brewers.

Jesus Luzardo Fans 10 in Tuesday's Win

Philadelphia Phillies starting pitcher Jesus Luzardo continued his excellent season in Tuesday's 7-4 win over the Rockies. Luzardo pitched six innings, allowing one run on two hits and three walks with 10 strikeouts. The 27-year-old is now healthy and is having a bounce-back season, going 5-0 with a 1.95 ERA, a 1.15 WHIP, and a 10.05 K/9 rate in 10 starts and 60 IP. Six of those starts have been quality starts and two of them have come with at least 10 strikeouts. His next scheduled matchup will be a middling one at the Athletics in Sacramento, but Luzardo has been too good to distrust in any matchup.
