Dylan Cease Heading to Injured List With Hamstring Injury

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Cease (hamstring) will be placed on the 15-day injured list with a left-hamstring injury, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. Cease allowed two earned runs with a walk and eight strikeouts in only 4 2/3 innings in a start on Sunday against the Pittsburgh Pirates and was pulled early due to discomfort in his left hamstring. The 30-year-old will now miss at least the next two weeks despite manager John Schneider saying the imaging on Cease's hamstring was positive. Fantasy managers will be hoping that it's a minimal stay on the IL for Cease, who has been very sharp in his first year with the Blue Jays in 2026. The former sixth-round pick by the Chicago Cubs in 2014 has gone 3-3 so far on the year with a 3.05 ERA (2.57 FIP) and 1.21 WHIP with a league-leading 92 strikeouts and 26 walks across 11 starts and 62 innings pitched. Fantasy managers should be holding Cease everywhere. It's unclear who might take his spot in the starting rotation for the short term.

Dylan Cease to Undergo an MRI on his Hamstring

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Dylan Cease (hamstring) was removed early during Sunday's outing against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Cease was pulled from the contest after 4.2 innings due to a left hamstring issue. After the game, Jays' manager John Schneider confirmed that Cease will undergo an MRI on his left hamstring. Schneider mentioned that the early testing has come back positive, but the team wants further imaging to get the whole picture. Fantasy managers should stay tuned for the MRI results, as those will likely determine the next steps for Cease. For now, Cease is scheduled to take the ball against the Baltimore Orioles on Friday. Fantasy managers will need to check back to see if Cease is actually going to be able to make the start.

Dylan Cease Removed From Sunday's Start With Hamstring Discomfort

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Cease (hamstring) was removed from Sunday's game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with mild left-hamstring discomfort. After a few visits from the trainers, Cease was pulled from the game during the fifth inning. He allowed two earned runs on four hits and one walk while striking out eight across 4 2/3 innings before exiting. The 30-year-old will likely undergo additional tests to determine the severity of his hamstring issue. He owns a 3.05 ERA, 1.21 WHIP, and a 92:26 K:BB across 62 innings so far this season. Cease is tentatively scheduled to face the Orioles at Camden Yards in Baltimore. Fantasy managers should monitor the situation as the Blue Jays continue to provide updates on his status.

Dylan Cease Continues Strong First Year in Toronto With Dominant Outing

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Cease was dominant again in his outing on Friday night against the visiting Los Angeles Angels in the team's 2-0 shutout win. Cease threw seven shutout frames while allowing five hits, walking none, and striking out 10 to earn his third victory of the year in his first year with the Blue Jays. He also lowered his ERA on the year to 2.58. It was the second straight start in which Cease went seven innings, and he induced 19 swings and misses on his 97 pitches. The 30-year-old veteran only allowed one extra-base hit on the evening at the Rogers Centre as he made easy work of the struggling Halos. Cease has been an excellent pickup for Toronto so far in 2026, as he entered Friday's outing with a 2-1 record, 3.05 ERA (2.12 FIP), and 1.33 WHIP with 56 strikeouts and 18 walks in 38 1/3 innings pitched. He has recorded three double-digit strikeout performances in his eight starts so far in 2026. Cease will have a big challenge on his hand in his next outing next week versus the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays, but he's been a must-start for fantasy managers.

Dylan Cease Continues Strong Start With 12-Strikeout Performance

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Cease continued his strong start to the 2026 season in his first year with the team in his outing on Monday in Anaheim in a 5-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels, allowing two earned runs on five hits while walking two and striking out 12 in five innings to pick up his first win of the year. Cease induced 18 swings and misses among his 110 pitches on the night. He's pitched much better than his 1-0 record indicates through his first five starts with Toronto, as he's posted a career-best 2.10 ERA (1.46 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with a league-high 44 strikeouts and 14 walks in 25 2/3 frames. Cease currently sits in the 82nd percentile in xwOBA and in the 98th percentile in strikeout rate (39.6%). His 1.46 FIP shows he's not just getting lucky early in 2026, though fantasy managers would like to see his 12.6% walk rate come down a bit. It's the first time his walk rate has been in double digits since the 2023 season, his last with the Chicago White Sox.

Dylan Cease Featuring New Changeup in Pitch Mix

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Cease looked amazing in his first start with Toronto over the weekend, striking out 12 hitters in 5 1/3 innings (one run allowed) versus the Athletics. His 12 K's were a franchise record for a Blue Jays starter in their debut. Per The Athletic's Mitch Bannon, Cease's goal this spring was to incorporate a new changeup, mostly against left-handed hitters, to complement his fastball/slider mix. The new changeup is faster than Cease's previous version and has more arm-side movement. "I'm going to keep fine-tuning it," Cease said. "Trying to find a little more consistency with command, but I like where it's at." The new changeup isn't an excellent pitch, but it could keep hitters more off balance and generate weak contact, especially late in games. Fantasy managers won't argue with the results in Cease's 2026 debut in his new digs. He threw eight changeups against the A's and got eight whiffs.

Dylan Cease Fans 12 in Blue Jays Debut on Saturday

Toronto Blue Jays right-hander Dylan Cease looked excellent in his debut for the team in Saturday's 8-7 win in 11 innings over the Athletics for their second walk-off win in the first two games of the 2026 season. Cease was on point for a great first impression for the home faithful, allowing just one earned run on three hits in 5 1/3 innings pitched while walking only two and striking out 12. Fantasy managers would have loved the win on top of it, but they don't really have anything to complain about in Cease's first outing of the year in his new digs at hitter-friendly Rogers Centre. He threw 61 of his 90 pitches for strikes, and his fastball velocity was up a tad from last year. At one point in the game, Cease struck out seven straight batters. Cease could be money once again for his fantasy managers in his second start with Toronto, which is scheduled to come next Sunday against his former team, the Chicago White Sox. It's a very encouraging start for Cease in his move back to the American League.

Dylan Cease Adding a Changeup, Striving for Consistency

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Dylan Cease said that he's working to add a changeup this spring, and he is preaching consistency as a main component of his 2026 outlook, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. Cease joined the Jays this offseason after two seasons with the Padres. Across 32 starts last year, he posted 11.52 K/9, 3.80 BB/9, a 36.6% ground ball rate, and a 3.56 FIP. It's interesting that Cease is looking for more consistency, especially after making at least 32 starts in each of the last five seasons. He presumably means more consistency on the process and results side, but there's still a ton to like about the underlying metrics. His fastball jumped to 97.1 mph last year, and his slider graded out at 115 on FanGraphs' Stuff+ model. It will be interesting to see what his new changeup looks like; he has thrown one in the past, but it accounted for just 1% of his pitch usage over the last two seasons.

Dylan Cease Brings Consistent Availability to Blue Jays' Rotation

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Dylan Cease is gearing up for his first season north of the border. He spent his first five big-league seasons with the White Sox and each of his last two in San Diego. Availability was a centerpiece of Cease's game, as he has made at least 32 starts and posted at least 3.4 fWAR in each of the last five years. His record dipped a bit last season as he went 8-12, but he still flashed an impressive 3.56 FIP with 11.52 K/9, which was his highest strikeout rate since 2021. Now 30 years old, Cease brings consistency, availability, and a track record of success with him to Toronto, where the Blue Jays are looking to win the American League pennant once again. He should slot into their rotation as the No. 2 starter behind Kevin Gausman and ahead of Shane Bieber. As it stands, Cease is the #21 starting pitcher in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball draft rankings for 2026.

Dylan Cease Agrees With Blue Jays on Seven-Year, $210 Million Deal

Free-agent right-hander Dylan Cease and the Toronto Blue Jays agreed on a seven-year, $210 million deal on Wednesday, pending a physical, sources tell Jeff Passan of ESPN.com. The defending American League champions take one of the best starting arms off the open market a day before Thanksgiving. Cease will join an already strong rotation in Toronto that includes Kevin Gausman, Trey Yesavage, Shane Bieber, and Jose Berrios. The 29-year-old has five straight seasons with 200 strikeouts, but he's coming off a disappointing final season with the San Diego Padres in 2025, in which he went 8-12 with a 4.55 ERA (3.56 FIP), 1.33 WHIP, and 215:71 K:BB in 168 innings over 32 regular-season starts. His 71 free passes were one of the highest marks in baseball. Cease remains an elite strikeout artist who has been durable in his career, but he'll be a risk-reward for both Toronto and fantasy managers going into 2026 in the American League East.
