Dylan Lesko Shipped To Tampa Bay

San Diego Padres starting pitching prospect Dylan Lesko is heading to Tampa Bay in the package that sent Jason Adam to San Diego. Lesko was considered the third-best prospect in the San Diego system on MLB.com prior to the trade. The former 15th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft has spent the entire summer getting his first extended look at High-A ball. Unfortunately, the right-hander has struggled with a 6.46 ERA, 1.54 WHIP, and a 52:79 BB:K ratio. After posting his best start of the season on June 15, where he logged six shutout frames, he has then carried a high 6.66 ERA and 1.48 WHIP across his past five starts. The 20-year-old is worth keeping a close eye on in dynasty leagues, as the Rays can help him work through these struggles and get him back on track in 2025.

Dylan Lesko Struggles Through First Half At High-A

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Dylan Lesko has struggled throughout the first half of the 2024 season at High-A Fort Wayne. Through 65 innings, the right-hander has posted a 6.03 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, and a 48:76 BB:K ratio. Last summer, the former 15th overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft earned a small taste of High-A and posted a similar 4.50 ERA and 1.58 WHIP across three starts. Lesko has shown high potential at times this season, as he logged five starts where he allowed one run or less. However, in his next start following these strong outings, he usually allowed at least three runs. If the 20-year-old could find some consistency in the second half, he could earn a promotion to Double-A later in the summer.

Dylan Lesko Starting To Find Footing At High-A

San Diego Padres starting pitching prospect Dylan Lesko has begun to find his footing at High-A since allowing a season-high seven earned runs on June 8. In his past three starts, the 79th-ranked prospect in baseball on MLB Pipeline holds a much improved 2.04 ERA, 1.02 WHIP, and a 7:20 BB:K. During this stretch, Lesko has struck out at least seven batters twice, with a season-high of nine punchouts in his most recent outing on June 29. In addition, he has begun to improve his command. In two of his three recent starts, he allowed just two free passes, whereas before, he averaged three in each start. Overall, through his first extended look at High-A ball, the former 15th overall pick sports a 5.66 ERA, 1.49 WHIP, and 41:62 BB:K. While the right-hander has disappointed this season, it is a great sign to see him begin to lower his walk rate and improve his ratios. Going forward, he should still be considered one of the better right-handed pitching prospects in baseball and remains on track to meet his 2026 big league ETA.

Dylan Lesko Off To Slow Start At High-A

San Diego Padres starting pitcher Dylan Lesko has been off to a slow start to the 2024 season and took a significant drop in the recent MLB Pipeline rankings. He entered the season as the number 49 prospect but now sits as the number 72 prospect. Through 19 innings at High-A this season, he holds a poor 9.00 ERA, 1.74 WHIP, and an ugly 23:22 BB:K ratio. This is a big difference from his 22:52 BB:K ratio he held through 33 innings last season at Single and High-A. He was in contention to reach Double-A this season, but due to his recent struggles, he may have to wait till next season to get that opportunity. Dynasty managers should follow Lesko closely to see if he could turn things around.

Dylan Lesko Tabbed As Breakout Prospect Of 2024

MLB's 2024 MLB Pipeline Poll, which asks front-office executives from all 30 organizations for their opinions on prospects, named San Diego Padres starting pitcher Dylan Lesko as the breakout prospect of 2024. The 20-year-old righty was the team's first-round pick in 2022, but he did not pitch competitively until June 2023 because he had Tommy John surgery in April of his senior year of high school. Known for his changeup, Lesko is the team's fourth-ranked prospect. He managed a 4.50 ERA with 43 strikeouts and 19 walks in 28 innings pitched last season across A ball. Given his pedigree and the fact that he was returning from injury, it seems as though front offices think he can hit the ground running in 2024, making him a name to track in dynasty leagues.
