Junior Caminero News
Tampa Bay Rays third base prospect Junior Caminero returned to the lineup on Sunday with a bang. After being activated from the 7-day injured list with a quad injury that kept him sidelined, Caminero did not miss a beat by going 2-for-6 with a home run and five RBI. The 20-year-old is rated a Top-5 prospect universally and many can argue that he is not in the big leagues due to service time and not performance at this point. With Brandon Lowe (oblique), Jonathan Aranda (finger) and Taylor Wells (hip) all on the injured list, Caminero might force his way up to the big leagues by continuing to perform as he has. Caminero offers good contact and power and should be rostered in all formats when he indeed does get promoted.
Tampa Bay Rays infield prospect Junior Caminero (quadriceps) was activated off of the injured list at Triple-A Durham on Sunday. Caminero will start at third base and bat second for Sunday's game against Triple-A Lehigh Valley. The 20-year-old is the Rays top prospect and the No. 4 overall prospect in all of baseball. While the injury derailed his season slightly, Caminero should still be up in the majors at some point in 2024. He is worthy of a stash spot in deeper leagues and is a cornerstone piece in dynasty formats.
Tampa Bay Rays infield prospect Junior Caminero (quadriceps), who is on the seven-day injured list at Triple-A Durham, took a full session of live batting practice and also took ground balls at third base on Tuesday. He's eligible to come off the injured list now and is closing in on a return to action if he doesn't have any setbacks. The 20-year-old is the team's top prospect and the No. 4 overall prospect in all of baseball, per MLB Pipeline, but the Rays are known to slow-play their youngsters. That might be especially true for Caminero now that he's coming off an early season injury. But even then, the Dominican should play for the Ray sooner than later in 2024 after making his big-league debut last year. His high prospect pedigree makes him stash-worthy in deep-mixed and AL-only leagues.

Mashing 31 home runs in 2023 across 117 games, Tampa Rays top prospect Junior Caminero posted elite exit velocities, reaching 111 mph on his 90th percentile exit velocity, which would rank in the top five among all hitters in baseball. The power is evident to all fields, and he can hit opposite-field home runs with the flick of his wrist. The contact skills are average, as Caminero posted a contact rate north of 73 percent and a zone contact rate north of 80 percent. He will not be a .324 hitter like we saw in the minors, but he can be a .270+ hitter consistently. The bat speed and barrel control allow Caminero to make adjustments on the fly in his swing and cover the zone well without expanding it too often. With regular playing time in Tampa, Caminero has a legitimate chance to mash 25-plus home runs (ATC projects Caminero to hit 22 homers) in 2024 with a solid batting average and counting stats.
