Liam Hicks Feeling Better, Back in Wednesday's Lineup

Miami Marlins catcher/first baseman Liam Hicks (illness) is feeling better and is back behind the plate on Wednesday to catch right-hander Sandy Alcantara while hitting fifth against Los Angeles Dodgers right-hander Tyler Glasnow, according to MLB.com. Hicks was under the weather in L.A. on Tuesday night and was scratched from the starting lineup, but he's back in there a day later. The 26-year-old left-handed-hitting Canadian catcher has been very hot in the early going this year, batting .311 (28-for-90) for the Fish with six home runs, 27 RBI, 17 runs scored, and one stolen base in 28 games in just his second year in the majors. Hicks slashed .247/.346/.346 with six homers and 45 RBI in 119 games across 390 plate appearances in his rookie campaign in Miami in 2025. It's not a great matchup on Wednesday in his return in the series finale against Glasnow, but DFS managers can't be blamed for wanting to ride the hot hand in Hicks.

Liam Hicks Scratched Due to Illness on Tuesday

Miami Marlins catcher/first baseman Liam Hicks (illness) was feeling under the weather on Tuesday and was scratched from the starting lineup against the hosting Los Angeles Dodgers, according to Christina De Nicola of MLB.com. Agustin Ramirez took over at catcher, and Connor Norby made the start as the team's designated hitter in an eventual 2-1 win over the defending World Series champions. Fantasy managers are hoping that Hicks' illness won't affect his recent hot streak at the plate. The 26-year-old Canadian backstop has hit .340/.353/.574 with 14 RBI and seven runs scored in his last 51 plate appearances to raise his season line to .311/.350/.544. The former ninth-round pick by the Texas Rangers in 2021 out of Arkansas State has hit six home runs while driving in 27, scoring 17 runs, and stealing one base in 28 total games in his second year in the big leagues. At the weak catching position, Hicks deserves to be rostered in the majority of fantasy leagues. He's currently rostered in 74% of Yahoo formats.

Liam Hicks Stays Hot with Three-Hit Effort, Trending Towards Must-Start Territory

Miami Marlins catcher/first-baseman Liam Hicks has come out of the gates fast this season, and he picked up three more hits, three RBI, and his first stolen base of the season on Monday night in a 10-4 win for his Fish over the Braves. Hicks is hitting .319 (15-for-47) with a double, three homers, and a .394 wOBA. He hit cleanup again on Tuesday and has regularly held down that important run production spot for the Marlins in the early part of the season. The 26-year-old lefty has bumped his hard-hit rate and barrel rate up this season and is a solid option behind the plate right now for fantasy baseball managers in almost all formats. If you need consistent contributions from behind the plate, Hicks is a strong option to consider in almost all formats for as long as he keeps rolling.

Liam Hicks Off to Fast Start, Quickly Becoming a Priority Add in Most Leagues

Miami Marlins catcher/first baseman Liam Hicks is off to a hot start in 2026, slashing .286/.354/.524 with three home runs, 13 RBI, and 10 runs across 14 games. Hicks continues to deliver in the heart of Miami's batting order and collected a hit in three of his last four games. The 26-year-old has drastically cut down on his strikeouts, with his K% dropping from 14.4% last summer to 6.8% in 2026. While his BB% is down 4.2%, Hicks' expected batting average, xwOBA, and exit velocity are all up so far compared to last season. With dual eligibility at catcher and first base on Yahoo Fantasy, Hicks' fast start makes him a priority add for fantasy managers searching for help at first base or catcher, as he's rostered in only 55% of Yahoo leagues.

Liam Hicks Worth a Waiver-Wire Add After Hot Start?

Miami Marlins left-handed-hitting catcher and first baseman Liam Hicks is off to a blazing-hot start to his 2026 campaign. Through 29 plate appearances, he's slashing .333/.414/.750 with three home runs, seven runs scored, and an NL-leading 12 RBI. Most of his underlying metrics support his early breakout, with xBA, xWOBA, and xSLG all ranking in the 97th percentile or better. More impressively, his plate discipline has also been fantastic, only striking out at a four percent clip and whiffing 5.7 percent of the time. While the 26-year-old out of Arkansas State doesn't have the career longevity to back up his early breakout, Hicks has become a must-add option in all formats. In some leagues, such as ESPN, he even has first-base eligibility, making his value even more significant. The one thing fantasy managers should be cautious of is whether Hicks starts against left-handed pitchers or becomes a strict platoon bat against right-handers. Regardless, his production so far this season is too good to pass up. Fantasy managers should look to roster him to see if he can continue this hot start.

Liam Hicks Swinging Scorching Bat, Emerging as a Top Waiver Wire Target?

Miami Marlins catcher Liam Hicks continued his hot start to the 2026 season on Wednesday, going three-for-four with a home run, four RBI, and two runs scored in his team's 10-0 win over the Chicago White Sox. Across his first 19 plate appearances of the year, Hicks is hitting .467 with three home runs, 12 RBI, and six runs scored. The 26-year-old made his MLB debut in 2025, posting a .247/.346/.346 slash line with six home runs, 45 RBI, 37 runs scored, and two stolen bases across 390 plate appearances. While he posted a minuscule 3.5% barrel rate, Hicks demonstrated a solid plate approach with a 11% walk rate and just a 14.4% strikeout rate. If Hicks can make some marginal gains in the power department in 2026, he could be worth targeting off the waiver wire in two-catcher fantasy formats.

Liam Hicks Starting At Catcher On Tuesday

Miami Marlins catcher Liam Hicks is getting the start behind the dish on Tuesday against the Mets and hitting sixth. Primary catcher Nick Fortes has been dealing with a neck issue that caused him to be scratched from a start this past Saturday, and he was pinch hit for late in the game on Monday, although it is unclear if the injury is what is keeping him out of the lineup on Tuesday. Hicks was a solid hitter in the minors, with a career batting average of .274, but was superb at getting on base via the walk, registering a career OBP of .405. Through his first seven games in the majors in 2025, the left-handed hitter is 4-for-18 (.222) with one double, an RBI, and a 1:3 BB:K. The situation is worth monitoring as Hicks could quickly become much more fantasy relevant if Fortes' injury continues to linger and forces an IL stint.

Liam Hicks Looking To Earn Backup Catcher Spot For Marlins

Miami Marlins catching prospect Liam Hicks has a "real chance" to earn a spot on the Opening Day roster, according to Marlins president of baseball operations Peter Bendix. The backstop also drew praise from starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara. If the 25-year-old were to make the team, he'd be expected to back up Nick Fortes. The left-handed hitter hasn't shown much power, having hit 13 home runs in 878 minor-league at-bats, but he has shown the ability to put the bat on the ball with a .274 career average in the minors, and he has a keen eye with an MiLB career walk rate of 15.1 percent -- compared to just a 13.4 percent strikeout rate. The former ninth-round draft pick also made a name for himself during the 2023 Arizona Fall League by leading the circuit in batting average at .449 and on-base percentage of .553, including a six-hit game that October. Hicks wouldn't warrant fantasy draft consideration in most leagues as a backup catcher, but if he were to somehow end up with the starting gig, he's got the contact skills and ability to get on base via the walk that would provide some fantasy intrigue.
