Yandy Diaz Serving as DH as he Returns From Side Injury

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz (side) will serve as the designated hitter and will bat cleanup for the Rays in his return on Monday in the series opener against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays and left-hander Eric Lauer at Tropicana Field, according to MLB.com. Fantasy managers will want to get Diaz back into their starting lineups after he was held out of the last two games due to left-side tightness that bothered him in Friday's contest against the San Francisco Giants. The 34-year-old Cuban veteran has continued to be a hitting machine in the early going in 2026, as he enters the new week with a .333/.422/.504 slash line, .926 OPS, five home runs, 21 RBI, 19 runs scored, and a stolen base in 117 total at-bats for the Rays. He's gone 9-for-27 (.333) with two of his five home runs against southpaws, and he's hitting .250 with a 1.000 OPS, a home run, and three RBI in eight career at-bats versus Lauer.

Yandy Diaz Leaves With Side Tightness, Considered Day-to-Day

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz (side) left Friday's series opener against the San Francisco Giants early with left-side tightness, according to Ryan Bass. Diaz is listed as day-to-day for now, with a potential update on his condition coming after the conclusion of the game against San Fran. Diaz, who was serving as the designated hitter in this one, went 1-for-2 at the plate with his fifth home run of the year (a solo shot) before being replaced by pinch-hitter Jonathan Aranda at DH. The 34-year-old veteran Cuban infielder doesn't appear to be dealing with a serious injury, but don't be surprised if the Rays hold him out of the starting lineup for a day or two to let him heal. Diaz continues to be a hit machine for his fantasy managers in the early portion of 2026, as he entered Friday's tilt with a .330/.421/.478 slash line, .899 OPS, four homers, 20 RBI, 18 runs, and a stolen base in 115 at-bats for Tampa. Check back on Saturday to see if Diaz is feeling good enough to return to the diamond.

Yandy Diaz Records Five Hits, Drives in Four in Win Over Cardinals

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman/designated hitter Yandy Diaz was at his best in the team's 11-7 win over the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium on Sunday in the series finale, going 5-for-6 with a double, four RBI, and two runs scored as the designated hitter out of the leadoff spot. It's a reminder that the 34-year-old Cuban veteran is a pretty darn good hitter. It was his 10th career game with four hits. Diaz is blazing hot at the plate to begin the 2026 season, going 9-for-16 (.563) in the first three games. He might not provide a ton of power -- he's only had 20-plus homers in two of his 10 big-league seasons -- but there is plenty of value in Diaz having the fourth-best batting average in baseball since 2021. Over that same timeframe, Diaz has the sixth-best on-base percentage. He's not incredibly sexy in fantasy leagues, but he's a glue guy for your lineups in OBP leagues, and he'll also provide a stable batting average and plenty of runs scored at the top of Tampa's lineup.

Yandy Diaz is Returning to the Lineup on Friday

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz (hand) is back in the lineup ahead of Friday's Grapefruit League game against the Boston Red Sox. Diaz is back in the mix after missing more than a week of action due to left-hand soreness. He has been increasing his workouts in recent days and is feeling good enough to play now. Diaz looks to continue his reliable ways after slashing .300/.366/.482 with 25 home runs and 83 RBI in 150 games last season. His power numbers could see a regression with the move back to Tropicana Field in 2026. The 34-year-old still hits well enough to be a useful corner infield bat for fantasy managers heading into the 2026 campaign.

Yandy Diaz Set to Return to Game Action on Friday

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman/designated hitter Yandy Diaz (hand) is scheduled to return to Spring Training game action on Friday, per Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Diaz has been out a little over a week due to soreness in his left hand, but it appears as though the issue is not overly serious. Across 681 plate appearances in 2025, Diaz slashed .300/.366/.482 with 25 home runs, 83 RBI, 79 runs scored, and three stolen bases. The 34-year-old has little to prove in Spring Training, so it would make sense if Tampa Bay were taking the stance of being overly cautious with its veteran slugger. Assuming he can return to full health, Diaz should be locked into an everyday role at the top of the Rays lineup in 2026. With a career batting average of .290, Diaz profiles as a reliable corner infield bat for fantasy managers.

Yandy Diaz Remains Out with Hand Soreness

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Yandy Diaz (hand) has been unable to play most of this past week due to injury. According to Marc Topkin, Diaz has been out since Tuesday due to left-hand soreness. Rays' manager Kevin Cash said that Diaz is fine and he'll get a few more days off before returning to the lineup. It's Spring Training, so teams are almost always going to be extremely cautious with even minor issues. This doesn't sound like something that is going to impact Diaz for much longer. Diaz is coming off an excellent season where he slashed .300/.366/.482 with 25 home runs and 83 RBI in 150 games. There will likely be a regression in his power numbers with the move away from Steinbrenner Field. Fantasy managers should still be able to count on Diaz as a reliable bat.

Can Yandy Diaz Repeat 2025 Power Surge?

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman/designated hitter Yandy Diaz had an excellent season in 2025, hitting .300/.366/.482 with 25 home runs, 83 RBI, 79 runs scored, and three stolen bases across 651 plate appearances. Diaz has established himself as one of fantasy baseball's best sources of batting average, particularly relative to his position. He's hit .291 across almost 3,500 plate appearances since joining the Rays in 2019, and has hit .296 or better in three out of the last four years. Diaz logged a 52.4% hard-hit rate while striking out in just 14.1% of his plate appearances in 2025, so he appears to have plenty left in the tank as he enters his age-34 season. Where he might regress is in the power category, as Tampa Bay will move back into Tropicana Field for the 2026 season after playing its home games at the hitter-friendly Steinbrenner Field last year. 18 of Diaz's 25 home runs came at home in 2025, and he's hit more than 14 bombs just twice in nine big-league seasons. Still, Diaz has proven himself to be a reliable producer and should be locked into everyday playing time in Tampa Bay in 2026.

Yandy Diaz Day-to-Day After Leaving Early With Groin Injury

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman/designated hitter Yandy Diaz (groin) is being considered day-to-day after leaving Thursday's game against the Baltimore Orioles in the fifth inning with right-groin tightness, according to Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times. Before leaving the eventual 6-5 loss, Diaz went 1-for-2 at the plate with a run scored. He was replaced at DH by Hunter Feduccia. The 34-year-old's injury isn't considered serious, but with only three games left in the season this weekend in Toronto against the division-rival Blue Jays, it's possible we won't see Diaz again in 2025. It would be a disappointing end to a career year for the Cuban slugger. Diaz entered play on Thursday with a healthy .301 average (173-for-575) with a career-best 25 home runs and a career-high 83 RBI while adding 78 runs scored and three steals in 147 games.

Yandy Diaz Playing on Sunday

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman/designated hitter Yandy Diaz (hamstring) is playing first base and batting third in Sunday's contest against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals and left-hander Matthew Liberatore. Diaz did not play on Friday after suffering a low-grade hamstring strain in the series opener against St. Louis on Thursday, but he's back in for the series finale after a rare team off day on Saturday. The 34-year-old veteran has been seeing the ball well of late with hits in eight of his last 10 games, so fantasy managers certainly will want him back in their starting lineups now that he's back on the field. Diaz has gone hitless in three career at-bats against Liberatore and is hitting .266 (34-for-128) with nine of his 21 home runs on the year against southpaws. The Cuban slugger is quietly hitting .281 on the year and is jut two home runs away from setting a new career high.

Yandy Diaz Out on Friday

Tampa Bay Rays first baseman/designated hitter Yandy Diaz (hamstring) is not in the team's starting lineup for Friday's contest againt the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. Second baseman Brandon Lowe is moving to the DH spot and will hit third, while Tristan Gray draws into the lineup at second and will bat out of the nine-hole against Cardinals right-hander Miles Mikolas. Diaz suffered a low-grade hamstring injury in the series opener against the Red Birds on Thursday and is also expected to sit out on Saturday. Fantasy managers will want to check back to see if he's available for the series finale on Sunday. Even though it's a low-grade injury, the 34-year-old veteran is still a candidate to go on the injured list. Lowe will be a decent DFS play on Friday evening despite the fact that he is hitless in three career at-bats versus Mikolas.
