Philadelphia Phillies outfielder Nick Castellanos was nearly unstoppable at the plate during Sunday's game against the Miami Marlins. The Phillies are missing multiple key pieces in the lineup, but luckily Castellanos has stepped up nicely. On Sunday, Castellanos went 4-for-5 with a double, three RBI, and a stolen base in the win. The veteran outfielder nearly hit a home run if it wasn't knocked down by outfielder Bryan De La Cruz in left field. Castellanos has been slow out of the gate but the Phillies are going to need more performances like this going forward.
Atlanta Braves shortstop Orlando Arcia (tooth) is out of Tuesday's lineup against the visiting San Francisco Giants due to an abscessed tooth. After missing some time last week due to dizziness, Arcia will miss another game with an infected tooth. Fantasy managers in deep leagues should consider the 29-year-old to be day-to-day. If he gets his tooth fixed on Tuesday, he could be right back in the lineup on Wednesday. Arcia has been a below-average hitter in 2024, especially at the shortstop position. The Venezuelan infielder is batting just .211 (60-for-285) with a .582 OPS, six home runs, 23 RBI and 24 runs scored in 2024 while mostly hitting at the bottom of the batting order. Zack Short will take over for him at shortstop on Tuesday and will hit ninth against Giants rookie right-hander Hayden Birdsong, who will be making just his second big-league start.
The San Francisco Giants reinstated outfielder Mike Yastrzemski (oblique) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned right-hander Landen Roupp to Triple-A Sacramento in a corresponding move. Yastrzemski is right back into San Fran's starting lineup on Tuesday against the Atlanta Braves and right-hander Reynaldo Lopez, playing right field and batting eighth in the order. The 33-year-old left-handed hitter has been out since June 22 with an oblique strain and will be hoping to pick up where he left off at the plate before his injury. On the season as a whole, though, Yaz hasn't been much to look at in fantasy with a .224/.304/.406 slash line with seven home runs, 28 RBI and 26 runs scored in a platoon role in the Giants' outfield against right-handed pitching.
Arizona Diamondbacks catcher Gabriel Moreno (thumb) has been activated from the 10-day injured list ahead of Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Moreno will make his return to the field after missing two weeks due to a left thumb sprain. He'll serve as the catcher and bat sixth versus right-hander Bobby Miller. Fantasy managers should make sure to get Moreno back in their lineups ahead of first pitch.
Arizona Diamondbacks starting pitcher Jordan Montgomery (knee) has been placed on the 15-day injured list, retroactive to June 29. The 31-year-old needed some time off after a horrendous start to the season. Montgomery has posted a 6.44 ERA, 1.68 WHIP, and 45/23 K/BB across 13 starts. The D-Backs haven't offered a timetable for Montgomery's return to the mound. In a corresponding move, right-hander Gavin Hollowell has been recalled from Triple-A Reno. He's expected to head to the bullpen, so the D-Backs will need to fill Montgomery's spot in the rotation soon.
Baltimore Orioles first baseman Ryan Mountcastle (illness) remains out of the starting lineup for the third straight game on Tuesday against the Seattle Mariners. The 27-year-old continues to sit out due to ongoing illness. This sounds like a minor issue that shouldn't force Mountcastle onto the injured list. In his absence, Ryan O'Hearn covers first base while Heston Kjerstad serves as the designated hitter for Tuesday's game against the Mariners.
Seattle Mariners catcher Mitch Garver (wrist) is out of the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The veteran slugger will take a seat after getting hit by a pitch in the hand during Sunday's contest. Currently, Garver is considered as day-to-day with a right wrist contusion. In the meantime, Cal Raleigh will do the catching while Mitch Haniger serves as the designated hitter during Tuesday's contest.
Los Angeles Angels infielder Brandon Drury (illness) is back in the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Oakland Athletics. The veteran slugger is back in the lineup after missing 10 games due to a respiratory illness. He'll cover second base and bat seventh versus right-hander Mitch Spence on Tuesday. Drury hasn't done much damage with the bat this season, but fantasy managers that do have him rostered can get him active for this game.
Los Angeles Angels pitcher Jose Soriano (abdominal) has been activated off the 15-day injured list on Tuesday. The right-hander missed one start while dealing with an abdominal strain. Soriano will take the ball for Tuesday's matchup against the Oakland Athletics. The 25-year-old has pitched well with a 3.48 ERA, 1.18 WHIP, and 60/28 K/BB ratio across 14 appearances (12 starts) this season. He's worth a look as a streaming option especially against the A's offense.
Arizona Diamondbacks relief pitcher Joe Mantiply will serve as the opener ahead of Tuesday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The veteran southpaw will get the starting nod in what looks to be a bullpen game for the D-Backs. The assumption is that Mantiply will face a few batters before handing off the ball to Ryne Nelson who will pitch a bulk of the innings. This is a situation to avoid in fantasy leagues, especially against this Dodgers lineup.
New York Mets designated hitter J.D. Martinez (ankle) has been scratched from the starting lineup ahead of Tuesday's game against the Washington Nationals. The veteran slugger is being pulled out of the lineup due to left-ankle soreness. Fantasy managers don't need to panic, as this sounds like a minor issue. For now, Martinez should be considered as day-to-day until further notice. Luis Torrens will serve as the designated hitter and bat sixth versus Nationals rookie left-hander DJ Herz.
