Hunter Dobbins Could Start On Friday

Boston Red Sox pitching prospect Hunter Dobbins could get the starting nod on Friday evening when the Red Sox host the Chicago White Sox. Dobbins made his MLB debut earlier in April and tossed five innings of two-run ball against the St. Louis Cardinals on April 6. In this outing, Dobbins allowed eight hits, two walks, and struck out five. Manager Alex Cora noted that there is a "good chance" Dobbins gets the call. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status leading up to Friday's contest. On MLB Pipeline, Dobbins is considered the No. 14-ranked prospect in the Boston system. He has also spent time with Triple-A Worcester this season and allowed eight runs in six 2/3 innings. If he does get the call for Friday's match, he would be worth a look as a streaming option in deep formats in a favorable matchup.

Hunter Dobbins Sent Back To Triple-A

As expected, the Boston Red Sox optioned right-hander Hunter Dobbins back to Triple-A Worcester on Monday after he made his major-league debut in Game 2 of the team's doubleheader against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals at Fenway Park on Sunday evening. Not only did Dobbins make his MLB debut, but the 25-year-old picked up his first career win as well thanks to an offensive outburst from the offense. He allowed two earned runs on eight hits while walking two and striking out five Cardinals batters in five innings pitched. Dobbins will head back to the farm but could be in consideration for another spot start at some point in 2025 after a good showing in his first big-league appearance. The former eighth-round selection wasn't as good in his first appearance in relief for the WooSox, giving up five earned runs on three homers while walking three and striking out two in 3 2/3 innings.

Hunter Dobbins To Debut On Sunday, Richard Fitts Pushed To Monday

The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey reports that Boston Red Sox right-hander Hunter Dobbins will start Game 2 of the team's doubleheader on Sunday evening at Fenway Park against the visiting St. Louis Cardinals, which will be his major-league debut. Manager Alex Cora said everyone else in the starting rotation will remain on turn, with Richard Fitts going on Monday against the division-rival Toronto Blue Jays after Saturday's game against St. Louis was rained out. The 25-year-old Dobbins will most likely be sent to Triple-A Worcester after serving as the team's 27th man on Sunday. In his first start for the WooSox last Tuesday, Dobbins allowed five earned runs on three long balls while walking three and striking out two in just 3 2/3 innings of work. In his first major-league appearances, fantasy managers should stay away.

MLB Pipeline Names Hunter Dobbins Red Sox's Top Pitching Prospect Of 2024

Right-handed pitcher Hunter Dobbins was named MLB Pipeline's top pitching prospect of the Boston system of the 2024 season. Dobbins opened the summer by getting his second extended look at Double-A ball. Through 105 frames, Dobbins posted a solid 3.17 ERA and 1.23 WHIP with a 39:98 BB:K ratio. This was a nice improvement compared to the 4.27 ERA and 1.33 WHIP he held at Double-A in 2023. The Texas Tech product then logged his final 20 2/3 innings of the campaign at the Triple-A level and held a strong 2.61 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP. He struck out 22 batters and served up just nine free passes. Given his gradual improvement at Double-A, fantasy managers in deeper formats should continue monitoring Dobbins at the start of the 2025 season. He may only need a slight fine-tuning at Triple-A before reaching the big leagues.
