He also seems to make nightly base running mistakes. Assuming the Marlins truly do try to improve this offseason in order to compete next year, these could be Diaz's last major league games.

Diaz will head back to Jacksonville and likely play third base to continue his "development" at that position.

McPherson adds that Diaz was cleared by the team's doctor after he was pinch-hit for in the top of the third. It sounds like it's probably nothing serious, and he should be considered day-to-day for now. Diaz has gotten off to a slow start this year, hitting .156 with a .644 OPS, although he has managed to hit two home runs in 11 games.

Diaz struggles defensively, so it may be too much to expect him to make a move to third base, but it's something the team may consider if he continues to hit well.
