The San Francisco Giants have acquired second baseman Isan Diaz from the Marlins for cash considerations or a player to be named later. The 25-year-old has struggled to make an impact at the big-league level by batting a paltry .185 with nine homers through 145 games with Miami after showing some promise in the minor leagues during the 2018-19 seasons. Diaz is yet to make an appearance in the majors in 2022, and should stay off fantasy watchlists since he'll mainly serve as a depth piece in the Giants organization.
Miami Marlins infielder Isan Diaz was designated for assignment on Tuesday to make room for the newly signed Jorge Soler. Diaz was getting a lot of spring playing time, leading some Marlins fans to believe the Marlins were going to give him yet another chance to play this season despite his career .185/.275/.287 line across 145 big league games. One of the prospects acquired in the Christian Yelich trade, Diaz proved to be a liability at the plate, on the field, and on the bases. He'll likely clear waivers and remain in the Marlins organization.
Miami Marlins infielder Isan Diaz continued his season-long struggles in Thursday's game against the New York Mets. Diaz has played second and third base, both poorly, while hitting .187 with a .573 OPS. Those numbers are despite a recent hot streak. Diaz has seemingly played all season, but he did spend some time in Triple-A, where he also struggled. At some point, it may come time for the Marlins to admit that Diaz just cannot hit major league pitching. Right now, his only tool is a good eye, as he's drawn 34 walks in 239 plate appearances. His swing still has a ton of holes in it, and his BABIP (.252) is only slightly below league average, meaning his poor results haven't just been bad luck. He also seems to make nightly base running mistakes. Assuming the Marlins truly do try to improve this offseason in order to compete next year, these could be Diaz's last major league games.
Miami Marlins infielder Isan Diaz hit a home run in Tuesday's win over the New York Mets. Diaz went 2-for-4 with the solo home run, giving him an RBI and a run scored as well. His other hit was a single. The strong performance skyrocketed Diaz's batting average to .184 and his OPS to .598. Diaz has shown lots of upside in Triple-A but has yet to do anything at the major league level. This could be the start of a hot streak or it could be just another tease, but either way, it seems like the Marlins will keep finding playing time for the guy whose batting average has yet to reach .200 this season.
Miami Marlins infielder Isan Diaz was optioned to Triple-A Jacksonville before Friday's game. Diaz was one of the worst players in all of baseball this season, but still got everyday playing time because Don Mattingly has no idea what he's doing. In 126 plate appearances, Diaz hit .146 with a 29.4 K%. He was also a liability on defense and on the bases, leading the team in pickoffs. Diaz started his everyday role at second base when Jazz Chisholm landed on the injured list. After Brian Anderson (shoulder) ended up on the IL as well, Diaz became the everyday third baseman and no number of 0-for-4 games could get him out of the lineup. Diaz will head back to Jacksonville and likely play third base to continue his "development" at that position.
Miami Marlins infielder Isan Diaz had a two-hit game on Monday and is now on a three-game hitting streak. Diaz went 2-for-4 with a single, a double, a walk, and an RBI. He also struck out twice, but is now on a three-game hitting streak, easily the best stretch of the season, unfortunately. Despite the sudden hot streak, Diaz is still hitting just .148 with a .530 OPS. It seems like what he does at the plate and on the field does not matter, Diaz is locked into a everyday starting role no matter what he does. He seems to have one tool, and that's a good eye. He's a poor defender, a bad base runner, and a huge swing-and-miss bat. He's not worth a roster spot in any fantasy league right now.
Miami Marlins infielder Isan Diaz hit a single in Tuesday's loss to the Toronto Blue Jays, ending up 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. Diaz got his first start at third base, where he's expected to play quite a bit with infielders Brian Anderson (oblique) and Miguel Rojas (finger) on the injured list. Going 1-for-4 with a single made for one of the best games of the season for Diaz, who boosted his batting average all the way to .125 and his OPS to .478. A "power hitting" second baseman by trade, Diaz has a .219 slugging percentage and a 37 wRC+. He shouldn't be anywhere near any fantasy league rosters.
Miami Marlins second baseman Isan Diaz, who inexplicably got a start over Jazz Chisholm on Thursday, went 1-for-4 with two strikeouts. Diaz, who is clearly not used to being on base, was quickly picked off right after he reached base on a single. He "improved" his batting average to .146 and his OPS to .521 with the effort. Despite playing a limited backup role, he's managed a -0.2 fWAR. That'll happen when your wRC+ is 38. Diaz should find his way back in Triple-A the next time the Marlins need to call up a position player.
Miami Marlins second baseman Isan Diaz was removed from Wednesday's game because he was feeling unwell and fatigued, according to Jordan McPherson of the Miami Herald. McPherson adds that Diaz was cleared by the team's doctor after he was pinch-hit for in the top of the third. It sounds like it's probably nothing serious, and he should be considered day-to-day for now. Diaz has gotten off to a slow start this year, hitting .156 with a .644 OPS, although he has managed to hit two home runs in 11 games.
Miami Marlins second baseman Isan Diaz hit a grand slam in Friday's 6-1 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Diaz went 2-for-3 with a walk, a single, and the long ball. He ended up with a run scored and four RBI. Diaz was awful in spring training this season and got off to a rough start in the regular season as well, as he was hitless as recently as five days ago. He's heating up though and is now hitting .238 with a .917 OPS. He has no chance to unseat Jazz Chisholm (hamstring) for the starting job when Jazz is healthy, but if Diaz is finally showing that he can hit at the big league level, he may force the Marlins hand and could potentially work his way into the lineup much more often. Diaz struggles defensively, so it may be too much to expect him to make a move to third base, but it's something the team may consider if he continues to hit well.
