Jameson Taillon to Start Game 3 of NLDS Against Brewers

Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon will make the start on Wednesday at Wrigley Field for Game 3 of the National League Division Series against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers as the Cubs look to keep their season alive and force a Game 4 on Thursday. The Cubs will be hoping that Taillon can deliver a second straight strong start in the postseason after shutting out the San Diego Padres for four innings in a wild-card contest last week in Chicago. It won't be as easy against Milwaukee, though, after they racked up hits in bunches in two wins in Milwaukee to begin the series. The 33-year-old veteran will most likely be pulled early if he's not on his game, so he'll be a poor choice in DFS lineups. In three starts against the Brewers in 2025, Taillon had a 4.50 ERA (eight earned runs allowed in 16 innings) while giving up 16 hits (three homers), walking three and striking out 11. His lack of strikeout stuff also makes him less appealing in DFS.

Jameson Taillon to Start Game 3 Against Padres

Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon will start in Game 3 of the NL wild-card series against the San Diego Padres on Thursday. After failing to put away the Padres in a 3-0 loss on Wednesday, the Cubs will turn to Tailon in a do-or-die showdown. Taillon ended the regular season in ace-like form over his final six starts, notching a 1.58 ERA with 24 hits allowed, 24 strikeouts, and seven walks in 34 1/3 innings. The 33-year-old took the ball 23 times during the regular campaign and went 11-7 with a 3.68 ERA, a 1.06 WHIP, and 98:27 K:BB across 129 2/3 frames. Taiilon faced the Padres back on April 14 and yielded two earned runs in 5 1/3 innings in a 10-4 loss, though he didn't factor into the decision.

Jameson Taillon Set for a Rehab Start on Thursday

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon (groin) will make a rehab start for Iowa on Thursday, as he continues to work his way back from a groin strain that has sidelined him since August 25, when he left a start early against the Angels. Taillon has been on the injured list three times this season and has only made 19 starts for the Cubs, going 9-6 with a 4.15 ERA and 5.02 FIP in his 106 1/3 innings. He'll look to get back in the mix for Chicago down the stretch if all goes well in Thursday's rehab outing. While the Cubs are six games back of the Brewers for the division lead, they have a firm grasp on the top Wild Card spot, giving them a chance to get healthy and determine their rotation headed into the postseason.

Jameson Taillon Placed on 15-Day Injured List

The Chicago Cubs have placed right-hander Jameson Taillon (groin) on the 15-day injured list with left-groin tightness and recalled righty Javier Assad from Triple-A Iowa. Taillon suffered the injury on Sunday when he had to leave early after tossing five innings of one-run ball in a 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. The 33-year-old felt OK after throwing off a mound on Wednesday, but the Cubs are taking a cautious approach with him, and they're optimistic that he'll return in two weeks. Taillon is now on the IL for the second time this season after sitting out all of July and two-plus weeks in August with a calf strain. In 19 starts and 106 1/3 innings this year, Taillon has gone 9-6 with a 4.15 ERA, a 1.08 WHIP, and 81:21 K:BB.

Jameson Taillon Exits with Groin Tightness

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon (groin) left Sunday's 4-3 win over the Angels after five innings with left groin tightness, reports Patrick Mooney of The Athletic. He cruised through the first five frames, allowing one run on three hits while only needing 62 pitches. Cubs manager Craig Counsell said after the game that it was a precautionary move, so there is still a chance that he's ready for his next start. This was the 33-year-old's second start since missing a month and a half with a calf strain, so it makes sense that the Cubs may be a bit more cautious with him. He'll carry a 4.15 ERA into his next start, which would be against the Rockies on Saturday if he doesn't miss any time with the groin issue.

Jameson Taillon Effective in Triple-A Rehab Start

Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon (calf) was sharp in his third and final rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday. Taillon tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings of two-hit ball with four strikeouts and two walks on 84 pitches (51 strikes). Cubs manager Craig Counsell indicated beforehand that it would be the last start in the minors for Taillon, who has been on the 15-day injured list with a strained right calf since July 1. He'll slide back into the Cubs' rotation with a 4.44 ERA, a 1.11 WHIP, and 74:20 K:BB over 95 1/3 innings. Taillon is expected to start during the Cubs' five-game series against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers next week.

Jameson Taillon Set for Final Rehab Start Wednesday Before Cubs Return

Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon (calf) is expected to make one final rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Wednesday before rejoining the big-league rotation, according to manager Craig Counsell. Taillon has been sidelined since July 4 with a right calf strain but appears on track to return later this month. Before the injury, the 33-year-old posted a 4.44 ERA, 1.11 WHIP, and 95 1/3 innings across 17 starts. Now in his third season with Chicago, Taillon has long been a model of consistency, never recording a season ERA above 5.00. His return could provide solid stability for a Cubs team with strong postseason aspirations.

Jameson Taillon Throws 78 Pitches in Second Rehab Start

Chicago Cubs starting pitcher Jameson Taillon (calf) allowed one run on three hits and no walks while striking out six over 4 innings on Friday for Triple-A Iowa. It was his second rehab start as he works his way back from a right calf strain. He threw 78 pitches in the outing, which was much more successful than his first rehab appearance, where he got hit hard for seven earned runs. The Cubs had a spot in the rotation open back up with Michael Soroka landing on the injured list, and Taillon could be ready to step back into that spot when the turn comes around. The 33-year-old was 7-6 with a 4.44 ERA and 1.11 WHIP in 95 innings before the injury, which has kept him out since June 29.

Jameson Taillon Making Another Rehab Start on Friday

Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon (calf) is making another minor-league rehab start on Friday with Triple-A Iowa, according to Taylor McGregor of Watch Marquee. The Cubs wanted to see Taillon make another start down on the farm after he surrendered seven runs in just three innings of work in his last rehab start. If the 33-year-old veteran looks better and comes out of Friday's start without suffering a setback, it's very possible he'll be activated from the injured list in order to rejoin Chicago's starting rotation for the stretch run. The former first-rounder by the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2010 has been inconsistent this year in his 17 starts at the big-league level and offers minimal fantasy upside with a 7.0 K/9 in 95 1/3 innings. Taillon has a 4.44 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 74:20 K:BB on the year in his third season on the North Side.

Jameson Taillon Allows Seven Runs in Rehab Start

Chicago Cubs right-hander Jameson Taillon (calf) struggled in his minor-league rehab start on Sunday for Triple-A Iowa against Triple-A Indianapolis, surrendering seven earned runs on seven hits (two homers) while walking none and striking out only one in three innings of work. Taillon was certainly rusty in his first start since June 29 due to a calf injury. The good news is that the 33-year-old veteran threw 64 pitches in the outing and came away healthy. It remains to be seen when Taillon will be activated from the injured list to return to the Cubs, but he might require one more rehab outing to see if he can bounce back from his ugly showing on Sunday. Taillon should have a rotation spot waiting for him in the big leagues, even after the addition of Michael Soroka at the trade deadline, but he's a low-upside fantasy piece in deeper leagues with diminished velocity and strikeout stuff.
