Davis Schneider News
Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that Davis Schneider did some outfield work over the winter and will be focusing on second base and left field in spring training this year. Cavan Biggio, Santiago Espinal and Isiah Kiner-Falefa will be options at both second and third base for Toronto in 2024, which means Schneider may have to move to left field in order to stay in the lineup consistently. The 25-year-old's bat certainly played up in his first 35 big-league games in 2023, as he hit .276/.404/.603 with a 1.008 OPS, eight home runs and 20 RBI in 141 plate appearances. However, he finished just 2-for-35 to end the year and struck out 30 percent of the time. Schneider showed some interesting skills with the stick in Toronto last year, but playing time could be an issue in 2024.
Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Davis Schneider continued his insanely hot start to his MLB career on Sunday, going 4-for-5 with a homer, four RBI, and a run scored in a 13-1 thumping of the Boston Red Sox. In his first three games, all of which were this weekend against the BoSox, Schneider went 9-for-13 with two homers, five RBI, two runs scored, and a walk. It was a truly incredible start to his career, and one that has fantasy managers perking up to see if they've found a diamond in the rough. While the 24-year-old isn't a highly regarded prospect, he was having a fantastic season in the minors and was rocketing up the Jays' board. He has good plate discipline and has shown a nice mix of power and contact skills in the minors, so he is worth a shot in deeper leagues to see if this is for real. Keep expectations low, but if you have a spot you can play with he isn't a bad flier.
Toronto Blue Jays rookie infielder Davis Schneider will make his major-league debut on Friday against the Boston Red Sox and left-hander James Paxton after being called up from Triple-A Buffalo earlier in the day. Schneider is starting at second base and batting seventh in the order. Whit Merrifield is being moved to left field for this one. Schneider hit .275 (85-for-309) with 21 home runs, 64 RBI and nine stolen bases in 87 games for Buffalo this year to get the call to the Show. The 24-year-old is making the start on Friday and can fill in at second and third base, but he may only see occasional time for the Jays as a utility infielder for as long as he remains in the big leagues.

Toronto Blue Jays infielder Davis Schneider broke onto the scene with authority and well surpassed even the loftiest of expectations in his rookie season in 2023. In his age-24 season, Schneider hit .276 with eight homers and a 1.007 OPS across 35 games and 141 trips to the plate. He was the club's best offensive player during his brief tenure in the big leagues. However, playing time questions remain in 2024. Schneider was not mentioned by name when skipper John Schneider was asked about his team's situation at second and third base, an ominous sign to be sure. While he should see decent playing time at second base, ATC is projecting just 404 trips to the plate for the 25-year-old. They also have him hitting 17 home runs with five stolen bases in that time, which is serviceable at the keystone, and his 511.40 ADP isn't ridiculous. He would still be a risky investment on draft day.
