Elieser Hernandez And Jeff Brigham Shipped To Mets
The New York Mets have struck a deal with the Miami Marlins for two right-handed pitchers, Elieser Hernandez and Jeff Brigham, just days after each was designated for assignment. The Marlins receive minor league pitcher Franklin Sanchez in return. Hernandez is the more prominent name of the two, as he made 90 appearances including 48 starts over five seasons in Miami, recording a 5.04 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 277 strikeouts in 287 1/3 innings. Both will serve as depth for the Mets, who have seen most of their pitching staff enter free agency.
Miami Marlins pitcher Jeff Brigham was placed on the 60-day injured list on Wednesday morning. This created a 40-man roster spot for the newly signed Adam Duvall. Brigham pitched just once in 2020 due to issues with COVID-19 and a biceps strain to go with it. Brigham has worked mostly in mop-up duty at the big league level and sports a career 5.01 ERA and 1.46 WHIP with the Marlins. He wasn't going to be a fantasy option even if he'd been healthy.
Miami Marlins pitcher Jeff Brigham (biceps) has started a throwing program in Miami. He was ticketed for the injured list to start the season, but with everything delayed, he seems likely to be ready to go once the season gets started. Brigham showed the ability to miss some bats in limited innings last season, and could end up as a solid member of the bullpen or a back-end starter. There's not a ton of fantasy upside here, but he could be a decent source of strikeouts in deeper leagues if he makes the rotation.
