Ryan Rolison News
The Colorado Rockies will consider using left-hander Ryan Rolison, their top pitching prospect, as a long-relief option in their bullpen to start the 2022 season. Rolison would be making his major league debut. Chad Kuhl, who the Rockies signed on Monday, is in line for the fifth spot in the starting rotation. Rolison was the team's first-round pick back in 2018, and he struggled with a 5.27 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 16 starts (71 2/3 frames) for the Rookie League Rockies, High-A Spokane, Double-A Hartford and Triple-A Albuquerque in 2021. The 24-year-old has a nice four-pitch mix and has the ability to fill up the strike zone with regularity. Rolison won't be a fantasy commodity in the bullpen, but he'll be worth a look later on if he eventually wins a rotation job in Colorado.
Colorado Rockies left-hander Ryan Rolison (finger), the team's No. 2 prospect per MLB Pipeline, should be throwing again by the end of this month after suffering a fracture on the third knuckle of his pitching hand in mid-June when he was shagging balls in the outfield. Rolison was on the comeback trail at Triple-A Albuquerque after having his appendix removed when he fractured his finger. The 24-year-old southpaw has been pretty solid in the minors this year with a 3.67 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 35/5 K/BB in 27 innings over six starts with Albuquerque and Double-A Hartford. Rolison might not be an option to make his big league debut later this year due to the delay in his development, but he has a ceiling as a mid-rotation starter for Colorado as soon as next season.
Colorado Rockies starting pitcher Ryan Rolison (appendix) is expected to miss more than a month after undergoing surgery to remove his appendix, according to Patrick Saunders of the Denver Post. The top pitching prospect in the Rockies' system and Colorado's No. 2 overall prospect according to MLB Pipeline, Rolison was having a great season on the mound, going 3-1 with a 3.67 ERA and 35 strikeouts in 27 innings of work between Double-A and Triple-A. This will cost him some time between recovery and building back up to baseball activities, but he could have a shot at reaching Colorado late in the season. Minimally, he should be vying for playing time in Colorado out of Spring Training in 2022.
