Cleveland Guardians second baseman Gabriel Arias will take a seat on Saturday afternoon when the Guardians face the Kansas City Royals and right-handed pitcher Seth Lugo. Arias got the nod at the keystone on Opening Day, facing a southpaw in Cole Ragans. However, facing a right-hander, the Guardians will turn to left-handed bat Daniel Schneemann on Saturday. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor this situation as the Guardians may keep Arias on the weak side of a platoon. Last season, Arias posted a .222/.255/.353 across 53 MLB contests. Last season, Schneemann made his MLB debut and held a .218/.303/.368 slash line across his first 73 MLB contests. Schneemann is best to fade in DFS facing Lugo, who held a strong 3.00 ERA and a 1.09 WHIP across 206 2/3 innings.
Juan Brito, Gabriel Arias Competing For Second Base Job
According to Mandy Bell of MLB.com, Juan Brito and Gabriel Arias will compete for the second base job during spring training. Earlier in the offseason, the Guardians traded second baseman Andres Gimenez to the Toronto Blue Jays, which opened this position on the depth chart. Bell noted that while Arias may be viewed as the slight frontrunner given his major league experience, the team is expected to give Brito an "extended look" during spring training. Last season, Arias logged 53 starts with the Guardians and posted a .222/.255/.353 line. He held a hefty 32.9 percent strikeout rate but was placed in the 97th percentile in arm strength. Brito is ranked as the eighth-best prospect in the system and spent all of last season with Triple-A Columbus. Across 144 games, Brito held a .256/.365/.443 line with 40 doubles and 21 long balls. Brito is worth monitoring in spring training as he could be a viable target in deeper formats as he flashed solid power upside at Triple-A last summer.
Cleveland Guardians infielder Gabriel Arias turned in a solid outing in his team's 4-2 loss to the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday. Arias went 2-for-3 with a run, an RBI, and a stolen base but it wasn't enough as the Guardians dropped the series finale to Baltimore. The 24-year-old has been a super utility man this season as he's played everywhere on the field except catcher and pitcher, hitting .241 with three homers, 15 runs, 15 RBI, and five steals for Cleveland this season as he tries to carve out an everyday role. He has been swinging a hot bat of late, hitting .421 with two homers over his past seven contests.
Gabriel Arias Goes On Injured List With Fractured Wrist
The Cleveland Guardians placed third baseman Gabriel Arias (wrist) on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday with a fractured right wrist and recalled shortstop Brayan Rocchio from Triple-A Columbus in a corresponding move. Arias injured his wrist in Tuesday's game against the Cincinnati Reds and will now miss the rest of the 2023 regular season. The 23-year-old played in his first full MLB season this year and finished with a .210/.275/.352 slash line, 10 home runs, 15 doubles, 26 RBI, three stolen bases and 36 runs scored in 345 trips to the plate and 122 games. Arias should be fully healed in time for spring training in 2024.
Cleveland Guardians infielder Gabriel Arias (hand) was lifted early during Saturday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The 24-year-old was pulled out of the game after hitting hit by a pitch in the hand. The expectation is that Arias will undergo further testing to determine the severity of the injury. Jose Tena took over at shortstop, so he could see more playing time if Arias is forced to miss time. Fantasy managers will have to check back on Sunday for another update on Arias.
Gabriel Arias Belts A Homer And Steals Home Versus Dodgers
Cleveland Guardians shortstop Gabriel Arias went 3-for-4 with a home run and stole home despite his team losing to the Dodgers 9-3 on Thursday. Arias swiped home plate while Guardians outfielder Will Brennan was picked off at first base. Besides having a great day at the plate and on the base path, the 23-year-old has struggled in the batter's box this season, posting a .209 batting average with eight home runs and 16 RBI in 220 at-bats.
Cleveland Guardians shortstop Gabriel Arias (hand) underwent surgery on his right hand on Thursday. The 22-year-old fractured the fifth metacarpal on his right hand this past Sunday. Following the surgery, he is expected to return to action in six-to-eight weeks. Arias was hitting .197/.269/.380 over 17 games at Triple-A prior to the injury. He made his MLB debut with the Guardians this year, but only played in two games before being sent down.
Cleveland Guardians shortstop prospect Gabriel Arias (hand) fractured the fifth metacarpal in his right hand during Sunday's game at Triple-A. He is in the midst of undergoing tests, but he will be placed on the injured list and he is expected to be sidelined for several weeks. The 22-year-old is rated as the team's No. 3 overall prospect by MLB Pipeline. He made his MLB debut this year, playing in two games before being sent back to Triple-A. He's been struggling at the plate at Triple-A this year, slashing just .197/.269/.380, but there's a decent chance we'll see him up in the majors again before the end of the 2022 season.
Cleveland Guardians infielder Gabriel Arias will be making his MLB debut against the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday. The top-100 prospect hit .284/.348/.454 with 13 home runs and five stolen bases in Triple-A last season. This is likely only a one day call-up due to the fact it's a doubleheader. However, it's unlikely going to be the last time we see Arias up at the big league level this season. He'll play second base and bat seventh versus lefty Dallas Keuchel on Wednesday.
Luis Campusano-Bracero And Gabriel Arias Among Early Cuts
San Diego Padres catcher Luis Campusano-Bracero and shortstop Gabriel Arias were two key prospects sent to minor league camp over the weekend. The clubs No. 4 and 8 prospects, respectively, Campusano and Arias werent expected to compete for a roster spot after getting a few weeks of work in big league camp. The 21-year-old Campusano recorded a knock in four spring at-bats and will likely spend most of 2020 in Double-A after posting a robust 148 wRC+ with 15 homers last year in High-A. Hell probably be joined by the 20-year-old Arias who turned heads in spring training going 4-for-13 (.308 average) while flashing excellent defense. Both players are attractive dynasty pieces with a chance to debut in 2021. Other key cuts on Sunday were infielders Owen Miller, Hudson Potts, Esteban Quiroz and outfielder Edward Olivares.
