Jhoan Duran Gearing Up for First Opening Day with Phillies

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran has already made 23 appearances with the organization, but now, he's getting ready for his first spring training as a Phillie. Duran was dealt from Minnesota to Philadelphia ahead of the 2025 trade deadline, and he instantly boosted his fantasy value by moving from a seller to a contender. With the Phillies, Duran immediately picked up more save opportunities. In fact, he had more save opportunities in 23 games with the Phillies than he did in 49 games with the Twins. He remained just as effective after the change of scenery, finishing the year with a 2.35 FIP, 10.29 K/9, 2.44 BB/9, a 65% ground ball rate, and a career-high 32 saves. He continued to effectively rack up strikeouts, limit walks, and minimize loud contact, which is a rare combination. The 28-year-old has cemented himself as one of the best closers in baseball, and in doing so, he has continuously elevated his fantasy stock. He ranks as the #3 relief pitcher in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball draft rankings for 2026.

Jhoan Duran Records His 32nd Save on Friday

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran notched his 32nd save of the season on Friday in a 3-1 win over his former team, the Minnesota Twins. Duran allowed two hits, but did not give up a run and struck out two in his one inning of work. The 27-year-old has been a bit shaky of late, allowing six hits and three earned runs over his last five appearances. Overall, Duran's numbers on the season are rock solid. Across 70 innings split between Minnesota and Philadelphia, Duran is 7-6 with a 2.06 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and 80 strikeouts to go along with his career-high 32 saves.

Jhoan Duran Records 26th Save on Thursday

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran notched his 26th save of the season on Thursday in his team's 2-0 win over the Milwaukee Brewers. Duran pitched a scoreless ninth inning with one strikeout and did not allow a baserunner. The hard-throwing righty has been excellent since being acquired by Philadelphia from the Minnesota Twins at the trade deadline. In 10 2/3 innings with the team, he's pitched to a 1.69 ERA and 0.94 WHIP with nine saves and 13 strikeouts. Duran is a high-end, must-start closer option in fantasy.

Jhoan Duran Notches 25th Save Of Season Monday

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran picked up his 25th save of the season in Monday's 10-8 win over the Brewers. Duran came in to pitch the bottom of the ninth inning up by two and delivered a 1-2-3 performance with no strikeouts. The 27-year-old has been excellent all season and has been even better since joining the Phillies at the trade deadline. He has now converted 25 of 28 save opportunities on the season with a 1.95 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and a 9.90 K/9 rate in 60 innings of work. He should continue to be a high-end fantasy option now that he has joined a strong team where he can have a full grasp of the closer's role.

Jhoan Duran Records 21st Save

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran picked up his 21st save of the year on Sunday in an 11-9 win over the Washington Nationals. Duran, who entered in the ninth inning with a runner on second and one out, retired both batters he faced - including a game-ending strikeout of James Wood. He threw 12 pitches (10 strikes) in his first outing since his injury scare on Friday. Duran had to leave that game on a cart after Nationals infielder Paul DeJong lined a comebacker off his right ankle. The 27-year-old was fine by Saturday, though, much to the delight of the Phillies and fantasy managers. Duran's ERA is down to 1.83 with a 1.11 WHIP and 57:18 K:BB in 54 innings.

Jhoan Duran Will Be Available on Saturday

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran will be available out of the bullpen Saturday against the Washington Nationals, manager Rob Thomson told reporters. Duran left Friday's 6-2 win early after Paul DeJong lined a comebacker off his right ankle, but the hurler dodged an injury. He briefly dealt with a "dead foot," which has since gone away, Thomson said. While it wouldn't have been a surprise to see the Phillies hold him out as a precaution on Saturday, Duran will instead be there if they need him late in the game. The 27-year-old has 20 saves in 22 chances with a 1.86 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, 56 strikeouts, and 18 walks over 53 1/3 innings this season.

Jhoan Duran Feels "100%"

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran (ankle) told Scott Lauber of the Philadelphia Inquirer that he feels "100%" after taking a comebacker off his right ankle Friday. Duran is walking without a limp, according to Lauber. The hard-throwing right-hander left on a cart after the Washington Nationals' Paul DeJong lined an infield single off him in the Phillies' 6-2 win. X-rays came back negative after the game, and a day later, it appears Duran is out of the woods. That's welcome news for the Phillies and fantasy managers, as Duran has been outstanding in 2025. The trade deadline pickup from the Minnesota Twins has converted 20 of his 22 save opportunities while pitching to a 1.86 ERA with a 1.13 WHIP and 56:18 K:BB in 53 1/3 innings.

Jhoan Duran Takes Comebacker Off Foot, X-Rays Negative

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran (ankle, foot) had to exit a 6-2 win over the Washington Nationals on Friday after a comebacker struck him in the right foot/ankle area. Duran entered in the ninth inning in a non-save situation and faced just one batter, Paul DeJong, who lined an infield single off him. Duran left on a cart as a precautionary measure, and X-rays came back negative after the game. The flamethrowing right-hander will still need to undergo further evaluation on Saturday. Duran has tossed four scoreless, two-hit innings while converting all four of his save opportunities since the Phillies acquired him from the Minnesota Twins at the July 31 trade deadline. Between Minnesota and Philadelphia, Duran is 20-for-22 in save chances with a 1.86 ERA, a 1.13 WHIP, and 56:18 K:BB in 53 1/3 innings. The Phillies brought in David Robertson to replace Duran on Friday, and he threw a scoreless frame despite giving up a double to the first batter he faced. If Duran requires a stint on the 15-day injured list, Robertson could be a candidate for saves, though Matt Strahm and Orion Kerkering may be at the head of the line. There's also Jose Alvarado, who is nearing a return from an 80-game suspension for performance-enhancing drugs and could be in the mix for saves if Duran is unavailable.

Jhoan Duran Records Second Save in Philadelphia

Philadelphia Phillies relief pitcher Jhoan Duran earned his 18th save of the season and his second since being dealt to the Phillies before the trade deadline. He pitched a scoreless ninth inning to shut the door on a 2-0 win against the Tigers. He struck out one and didn't allow anyone to reach base. The 27-year-old is one of the best closers in the sport and now figures to be even better for fantasy with the team upgrade. Although the Phillies have historically stuck to closer-by-committee approaches, Duran should see the large bulk of save chances with occasional usage in very high-leverage spots earlier in the game if needed.

Jhoan Duran Secures Save in Phillies Debut

Philadelphia Phillies closer Jhoan Duran picked up a save in his debut with the club in a 5-4 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday. Duran, acquired from the Minnesota Twins before Thursday's trade deadline, recorded a 1-2-3 ninth inning on a mere four pitches for his 17th save in 19 tries this season. The 27-year-old lowered his ERA to 1.97 and has also notched a 1.16 WHIP with 53 strikeouts against 18 walks over 50 1/3 innings. Duran should see an increase in save opportunities now that he's pitching for a playoff-caliber team, which is welcome news for fantasy managers.
