Joey Bart Sitting Again on Monday

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Joey Bart is not in his team's lineup for their Monday matchup against the Kansas City Royals. Bart was also on the bench for Pittsburgh on Sunday and the team has not announced an injury, so it appears as though he may be losing playing time behind the dish. Bart had a breakout 2024 with Pittsburgh but has struggled so far this season, slashing .234/.335/.288 with just one home run in 212 plate appearances. Youngster Henry Davis takes his place at catcher for Pittsburgh on Monday night.

Joey Bart Sitting Again Against Right-Hander

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Joey Bart will not be in the team's lineup for their series finale with the visiting St. Louis Cardinals. The former second-overall pick will ride the pine again with right-handed pitcher Sonny Gray taking the mound for St. Louis. Fellow backstop Henry Davis will get the start behind the dish and bat eighth in his place. Bart is hitting a crisp .340 (16-for-47) off southpaws but is a dismal .208 against righties thus far. Davis hasn't been much better (.217), but the former is the preferred option when the team faces left-handed pitching. He's tallied a lone home run through 53 contests after collecting 13 a season ago (80 games).

Joey Bart Reinstated and Starting on Tuesday

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Tuesday that they reinstated catcher Joey Bart (concussion) from the seven-day concussion injured list. Bart will immediately return behind the plate to catch left-hander Bailey Falter on Tuesday and will bat sixth against Detroit Tigers right-hander Casey Mize at Comerica Park. The 28-year-old backstop is returning to the big-league lineup after going 3-for-13 with two RBI in five minor-league rehab starts. Bart will return to a .240/.347/.308 slash line with a below-average .655 OPS, one home run, 11 RBI, seven runs scored and one steal in 146 at-bats, and he'll settle back in as Pittsburgh's primary catcher. The former second overall pick by the San Francisco Giants in 2018 will be viable in two-catcher formats now that he's back with the Bucs. He played his best baseball in 2024 after being traded to the Pirates, clubbing a career-high 13 homers in just 80 games.

Joey Bart Starting Rehab Assignment on Wednesday

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced that catcher Joey Bart (concussion) is starting a minor-league rehab assignment with Triple-A Indianapolis on Wednesday. Bart is on the seven-day injured list with a concussion that he sustained on May 28, but he's been cleared from the league's concussion protocol and will resume playing in minor-league games this week. As long as the 28-year-old backstop doesn't suffer any setbacks, it's possible he could be back this weekend for a series at Wrigley Field versus the Chicago Cubs. When he's activated from the IL, Bart will return to being Pittsburgh's primary catcher. The former first-rounder will return to a .240/.347/.308 slash line with a .655 OPS, one homer, 11 RBI, seven runs scored and a steal in 44 games played. Henry Davis has been doing most of the catching for the Bucs with Bart sidelined.

Joey Bart Still in Concussion Protocol

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Joey Bart (concussion) has returned to full baseball activities but is still in the league's concussion protocol, according to senior director of sports medicine Todd Tomczyk. Bart is making progress but isn't ready to be cleared while being monitored on a day-by-day basis. When he's finally cleared, the Pirates and doctors will determine whether he'll need to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. Before suffering a head injury on a backswing last Tuesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, Bart was hitting .240 with a home run, 11 RBI and a .347 on-base percentage as Pittsburgh's primary catcher through 44 games. Since Bart went on the seven-day concussion injured list, Henry Davis has started five of the six games behind the dish for the Bucs.

Pirates Place Joey Bart on Concussion Injured List

The Pittsburgh Pirates announced on Wednesday that they placed catcher Joey Bart (concussion) on the seven-day concussion injured list and reinstated catcher/first baseman Endy Rodriguez (finger) from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move. Bart suffered a concussion in Tuesday's game when he was hit in the head by a backswing. Henry Davis is doing the catching for right-hander Paul Skenes on Wednesday against the Arizona Diamondbacks, and he and Rodriguez should split the catching duties for the Bucs for as long as Bart is out of action. The 28-year-old Bart had a career-high 13 home runs and 45 RBI in 80 games with Pittsburgh last year, but he hasn't been quite as good in 2025. Through 44 games before his concussion, Bart has hit .240 (35-for-146) with only one long ball and 11 RBI. It's possible he'll need longer than a week to recover from his head injury.

Joey Bart, Tommy Pham Starting On The Bench

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Joey Bart and outfielder Tommy Pham will start Tuesday's game against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals on the bench at Busch Stadium. Henry Davis is catching and hitting ninth, while Alexander Canario will start in left field and bat fifth against Cardinals left-hander Matthew Liberatore. Although Bart has just one long ball on the season in 87 at-bats, he's done well as Pittsburgh's primary catcher with a strong .276 average (24-for-87) with seven RBI, seven runs and a stolen base. The 28-year-old will take a seat after starting the last four games. Pham could use a rest after going 2-for-18 of late as the team's primary left fielder. Canario is starting to see more playing time of late with Pham slumping, though. Davis has never faced Liberatore in his career, while Canario is hitless against him in just three at-bats.

Joey Bart Back In The Lineup Against Nationals

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Joey Bart (back) is back behind the plate and catching left-hander Andrew Heaney and will bat cleanup in Thursday's series finale against the visiting Washington Nationals and right-hander Trevor Williams at PNC Park. Bart will return to action after missing the last five games due to lower-back soreness. With the 28-year-old backstop returning, Henry Davis will head to the bench. As long as his back injury doesn't bother him again, Bart will move forward as the Bucs' primary catcher, especially after starting the season strong at the plate. Before tweaking his back, Bart had gone 11-for-40 (.275) with a home run, five RBI, four runs scored and a stolen base. The former first-rounder has gone hitless in just two career at-bats against Williams.

Joey Bart Remains Out Versus Nationals

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Joey Bart (back) remains out of the starting lineup for Wednesday's contest against the visiting Washington Nationals at PNC Park. It's the fifth straight missed game after he came down with lower-back soreness late last week. With Endy Rodriguez (finger) landing on the injured list on Tuesday, Henry Davis will make another start behind the plate to catch left-hander Bailey Falter while batting ninth against Nationals left-hander Mitchell Parker. The Bucs finish their series with the Nats on Thursday, but if Bart isn't ready for Friday's series opener in Pittsburgh against the Cleveland Guardians, he may land on the injured list. Davis, the former first overall pick in 2021 out of Louisville, has struggled to find his footing offensively in the big leagues and has gone 2-for-13 so far in 2025. He'll be a poor DFS play on Wednesday and has never faced Parker in his career.

Joey Bart Will Go Through Testing

Pittsburgh Pirates catcher Joey Bart (back) is set to undergo testing before Tuesday's contest against the Cincinnati Reds. Bart has been held out of the starting nine since being removed from Friday's contest with a back injury. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status, as he may need to be placed on the injured list if he has not made any progress. As a result, Henry Davis will get another start behind the dish and bat ninth. Through his first 11 games of the campaign, Bart was productive at the plate, holding a .282/.378/.436 slash line with one double and one home run. He held a 4:14 BB:K and swiped one bag. Last summer, Bart enjoyed similar success in Pittsburgh, posting a .265/.337/.462 slash line with 13 home runs across 80 games. Fantasy managers in two-catcher formats should continue to stash Bart on their roster while he remains sidelined.
