John King Fantasy Stats

St. Louis Cardinals reliever John King (oblique) was placed on the 15-day IL on Wednesday with a left oblique strain. Severity is not yet known. If the oblique strain is a Grade 1, expect King to miss only 2-3 weeks. A Grade 2 oblique strain could mean 6-8 weeks on the IL and possibly season-ending. Further testing (MRI) will show the Cardinals' next course of action. Since the All-Star break, King has only allowed three earned runs over his last seven outings, logging four strikeouts and only one walk. RHP Gordon Graceffo has been called up to take King's bullpen spot.

The Texas Rangers optioned left-hander John King to Triple-A Round Rock on Wednesday. The team also re-signed right-hander Dominic Leone to a minor-league deal and assigned him to Round Rock. Outfielder Dustin Harris' option was transferred from Round Rock to Double-A Frisco. The Rangers would like to see King work in the minors to begin the 2023 season after he posted a 5.06 ERA, 1.78 WHIP, four walks and 12 strikeouts in 10 2/3 innings during the Cactus League this spring. The 28-year-old southpaw reliever has a 4.01 ERA (3.91 FIP), 1.35 WHIP and weak 17 percent strikeout rate in his three seasons with the Rangers. King is well off the fantasy radar.

Texas Rangers pitcher John King may be getting promoted. With some of the team's staff struggling, the veteran could be tasked with taking on a more prominent role within the rotation. King pitched three innings on Saturday, and it appears as if skipper Chris Woodward could be building him up for more work moving ahead. The 26-year-old has a 5-5 record but is currently sitting on an acceptable 2.41 ERA throughout 37 innings this season. Fantasy managers in deeper formats where pitching may be more scarce should surely keep him in mind over the weeks ahead.

Texas Rangers pitcher John King provided two innings of shutout relief during Friday night's 3-0 loss which saw the club no-hit by opposing pitcher Joe Musgrove of the San Diego Padres. The Rangers lefty allowed two hits, did not walk a batter and struck out four. King last pitched on April 3 when he allowed four runs (one earned) during an inning of work against the Kansas City Royals. In three games this season, King has allowed six hits but he has yet to issue a walk and he's struck out five batters. The 26-year-old reliever was originally selected in the 10th round of the 2017 amateur draft. He made six appearances for the Rangers in 2020 and posted an ERA of 6.10. Prior to that, King had not pitched above A-ball.
