Braves Showing Interest in Lucas Giolito, Chris Bassitt

The Atlanta Braves have shown interest in free-agent right-handed pitchers Lucas Giolito and Chris Bassitt, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. Giolito hit the open market after a season in Boston, and because he doesn't carry a qualifying offer, the Braves wouldn't have to forfeit a draft selection for signing him. He tossed 145 innings across 26 starts in 2025, posting a 3.41 ERA, 7.51 K/9, and 3.48 BB/9. The 31-year-old's 4.59 xFIP suggests he may have gotten lucky at times last season, but the results were enough to keep Giolito entrenched in the No. 2 starter role behind Garrett Crochet. If he joins the Braves, he'd slot in behind a different Cy Young candidate southpaw in Chris Sale. Bassitt also found success in the AL East last year, pitching to a 3.84 xFIP with 8.77 K/9, 2.75 BB/9, and a 46.5% ground ball rate with the Blue Jays. He'll be 37 by Opening Day, so he's a bit older than Giolito, but he offers consistency after making at least 30 starts in each of the last four seasons. As it currently stands, Spencer Schwellenbach and Spencer Strider are in line to pitch after Sale in the Braves' rotation.

Tigers Among Teams Interested in Lucas Giolito

The Detroit Tigers are "one of many teams" interested in signing free-agent starting pitcher Lucas Giolito, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Giolito impressed in the Red Sox's rotation last year, and he remains on the market with less than one month until spring training. He tossed 145 innings across 26 starts in 2025, posting a 3.41 ERA, 7.51 K/9, and 3.48 BB/9. His 4.59 xFIP suggests he may have gotten lucky at times last season, but the results were enough to keep Giolito entrenched in the No. 2 starter role behind Garrett Crochet. It doesn't sound like a deal is imminent, but if Giolito does land in Detroit, he'll go from pitching behind one AL Cy Young candidate in Crochet to another in Tarik Skubal. He'd also reunite with Tigers starter Jack Flaherty, who was his teammate in high school. Giolito currently ranks as the #123 starting pitcher in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball draft rankings, but that placement will presumably shift a little once we know where he'll be pitching in 2026.

Tigers Showing Interest in Lucas Giolito

The Detroit Tigers have shown interest in free agent starting pitcher Lucas Giolito, according to Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon of The Athletic. The Tigers remain active in the starting pitching department on the open market and have also been linked to veteran right-hander Chris Bassitt. Giolito made his return to the bump in 2025 after missing all of the 2024 campaign recovering from an internal brace procedure. With the Red Sox, Giolito turned in a solid bounce-back campaign, posting a 3.41 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP across 145 innings of work. The 31-year-old struck out 121 hitters and generated a high 5.06 xERA, suggesting he could take a step back in 2026. If Giolito were to join Detroit, he would likely contend with Troy Melton and Drew Anderson for a final spot in the rotation and would be left as a deep-league streamer in favorable matchups for fantasy.

Lucas Giolito Declines his 2026 Player Option

Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito (elbow) will decline his side of the mutual option with the team for the 2026 season, a source told Alex Speier of The Boston Globe. The Red Sox must now decide whether they will extend a one-year, $22 million qualifying offer to Giolito. The veteran hurler will receive a $1.5 million buyout after he declined his $19 million option for next year. Giolito bounced back this year following an internal-brace procedure on his right elbow that kept him out for the entire 2024 season. In 26 starts in Beantown, he went 10-4 with a 3.41 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 121 strikeouts and 56 walks in 145 innings pitched. His strong bounce-back season ended prematurely, though, when he developed elbow soreness in the final month of the regular season. How many suitors Gioloto has on the open market this winter will depend on his injury prognosis going into spring training.

Lucas Giolito Won't be on Wild-Card Roster With Elbow Issue

Boston Red Sox manager Alex Cora said that right-hander Lucas Giolito (elbow) will not be on the roster for the wild-card series this week in the Bronx against the division-rival New York Yankees as he deals with an elbow issue, according to Gabrielle Starr of the Boston Herald. Giolito has gone to visit with Dr. Dugas, who performed his elbow surgery back in March of 2024. It's a big blow to Boston's pitching staff for the postseason, as Giolito was a significant part of them making it to the playoffs. After missing all of 2024 due to an elbow injury that required an internal brace, the 31-year-old went 10-4 with a nice 3.41 ERA (4.17 FIP) and 1.29 WHIP with 121 strikeouts and 56 walks in 145 innings over 26 starts in his first year in Beantown. At this time, it's unclear how serious Giolito's injury is or if he could return to start in the Division Series if Boston advances. With Giolito out this week against the Yanks, rookie Connelly Early could now be the favorite to start a Game 3 on Thursday, if necessary.

Lucas Giolito Earns Sixth Win on Wednesday

Boston Red Sox right-hander Lucas Giolito notched a quality start in a 10-2 win over the Colorado Rockies on Wednesday. Giolito tossed six shutout innings while allowing four hits and striking out six to pick up his sixth win of the season. The veteran right-hander heads into the All-Star break with a 6-1 record, 3.36 ERA, 1.23 WHIP, and 64 strikeouts over 72 1/3 innings of work after not appearing in a game in 2024 following Tommy John surgery. He will be a name to monitor in fantasy after the All-Star break, as a contender could show interest in adding him for a pennant push.

Lucas Giolito Logs Fifth Win

Boston Red Sox starter Lucas Giolito earned his fifth win of the season on Friday, throwing 7 2/3 of one-run ball in his team's 11-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds. Giolito struck out seven while walking three and allowing four hits. The veteran right-hander has now won four out of his last five starts dating back to June 10. In that stretch, Giolito has thrown 32 2/3 innings, allowing just three total earned runs and striking out 31. His season-long ERA now sits at a respectable 3.66, but his 1.29 WHIP and modest 13.4% K-BB% are less impressive, and still feeling the effects of his slow start. If Giolito is rounding into form and is now fully recovered from the Tommy John surgery that cost him all of 2024, he could be an impact fantasy arm down the stretch.

Lucas Giolito Strikes Out Season-High 10 in Monday's Win

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito turned in another strong start in Monday's 2-0 win over the Mariners. Giolito pitched six innings, allowing just three hits and a walk with a season-high 10 strikeouts. The 30-year-old has either pitched very well or very poorly this season, culminating in a 3-1 record with a 4.73 ERA, a 1.42 WHIP, and an 8.08 K/9 rate in nine starts and 45 2/3 IP. His next start will be in a favorable venue but against a strong lineup at the Giants. Giolito's propensity for implosion makes him a dangerous start in roto leagues, but he could be a potential start candidate for fantasy managers who don't mind taking risks in points leagues.

Lucas Giolito Shuts Down Rays

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito threw six scoreless innings in Tuesday's 3-1 win over the Tampa Bay Rays. He yielded three hits, three walks, and punched out four to notch his fourth quality start, improving to 2-1. It's a nice rebound for him after a disastrous meeting with the Los Angeles Angels his last time out. The 30-year-old has had a rollercoaster of a time through his first eight appearances, recording three outings with six or more earned runs and four with one or fewer. The result is an ugly 5.45 ERA and 1.54 WHIP. Despite the strong performance, Giolito will be tough to trust the next time he toes the rubber when Boston squares off against the Seattle Mariners on the road early next week.

Lucas Giolito Bounces Back With Strong Effort Against Royals

Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Lucas Giolito pitched 6 2/3 strong innings in his team's 3-1 win over the Kansas City Royals. The 30-year-old veteran fired in 59 of 88 pitches for strikes, allowing two hits, no earned runs, one walk, and striking out five. Giolito was dominant for most of Sunday's outing, but a single, a walk, and a throwing error on a bunt (his own) in the bottom of the third were enough for the Royals to push a run across. Still, the right-hander was excellent, doing a good job of limiting hard contact against him. It was a nice bounce-back for him after allowing six earned runs and ten hits to the Rangers his last time out. He'll attempt to continue his solid pitching when he squares off against the Atlanta Braves on the road next week.
