Ty France News
The Seattle Mariners agreed to a one-year, $4.1 million deal on Friday to avoid salary arbitration with first baseman Ty France. The 28-year-old has found a home in Seattle and has had a really nice last couple of seasons. He made the All-Star team for the first time in his career in 2022 and finished with a .274/.338/.436 slash line, .774 OPS, career-high 20 home runs, career-high 83 RBI and 65 runs scored in 613 plate appearances over 140 games played. France isn't elite by any means, but he's not a bad consolation prize at the first base position and resides in a Mariners lineup that is dangerous. He has produced a .283 average, .795 OPS, 38 home runs and 157 RBI in his last two seasons with the M's.
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France couldn't help his team get on the board in Saturday's 18-inning 1-0 loss against the Houston Astros in game three of the Division Series, eliminating the Mariners from the postseason. He went 1-for-7 with a single and two strikeouts. Across five playoff games, the 28-year-old slashed .231/.259/.269 with no home runs. The performance was after a solid regular season in which France hit .276 with 20 HRs, 65 runs, and 84 RBI, and he only struck out 15.3% of the time over 140 games. France will head into the offseason as the projected first baseman again for next season.
Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France had a big day at the plate in Monday's 9-1 win over the Angels. France went 2-for-4 with a double, a three-run home run, four RBI, and a strikeout. The 28-year-old has had a very cold second half but still has a solid .272/.336/.442 slash line with 20 HR and 77 RBI on the season. Hopefully, he can pick things up for fantasy managers over the final few weeks of the season.

Seattle Mariners first baseman Ty France had an overall successful 2022 season, slashing .274/.338/.436 with 20 home runs, 65 runs scored, and 83 RBI in 613 plate appearances. The 28-year-old didn't walk much at 5.7%, but he also didn't strike out much at 15.3%. He was also able to generate a decent amount of power despite having an exit velocity and hard-hit rate in the bottom 30 percent of baseball. France should continue to bat at the top of an above-average and improved lineup, which could lead to a boost in R. However, a good portion of his fantasy value came from his second base eligibility, which he will not have heading into 2023. He is currently being drafted at about pick 172 overall, making him the 16th first baseman off the board. The position itself is deep, but France does stand out as a solid hitting option at that point in the draft given his high floor in several categories. As such, he seems like a strong corner infielder to target toward the back half of drafts.
