Ty France a Sneaky Waiver-Wire Addition Amid Hot Stretch

San Diego Padres first baseman Ty France has quietly been one of the team's most consistent offensive producers this summer. He hit .326 (29-for-89) with a .966 OPS, six home runs, six doubles, 20 RBI, and 13 runs scored in 23 games and 100 plate appearances in July, and he's off to a good start so far in five games in August, going 6-for-20 (.300) with five runs scored for the Friars. The 32-year-old veteran's recent hot streak at the plate has boosted his season slash line to an impressive .288/.342/.520 with an .862 OPS, 16 home runs, 49 RBI, 39 runs scored, and a stolen base in 89 games played across 311 plate appearances in his eighth year in the big leagues. France is suddenly five home runs shy of setting a new career high in that category in his return to San Diego in 2026. While his .255 expected batting average and .331 xwOBA (current wOBA of .368) say that we've probably seen the best from France this year, he's still a decent corner-infield option for some pop in deep-mixed fantasy leagues while he's hot. After his red-hot stretch in July, he's now rostered in 40% of Yahoo leagues.

Ty France Continues to Torment Royals, Homers Twice in Sunday's Win

For some reason, San Diego Padres first baseman Ty France just sees the ball better when he's playing against the Kansas City Royals. France continued his torrid hitting against KC in the Padres' 19-2 blowout victory on the road on Sunday at Kauffman Stadium, going 2-for-6 at the plate with two home runs and five RBI to boost his season average to .275 and his OPS to .872. The 32-year-old veteran right-handed hitter hit a grand slam in the eighth inning and had a solo homer in the ninth to cap a rare offensive explosion for the Friars. The big performance from France extended his current hitting streak to seven games. During that span, he has four home runs, nine RBI, seven runs scored, and four multi-hit games as he continues to heat up during the summer. After the big day, France is hitting .275/.335/.537 with 14 home runs, 39 RBI, 28 runs scored, and a steal in his 243 plate appearances in his first year back in SD. He's been hot lately, but France has mostly been far too inconsistent with a limited power ceiling, which is why he's rostered in only 2% of Yahoo leagues. His .246 expected batting average also doesn't make him extremely attractive as a hitter to target in the second half.

Will Ty France's Two-Homer Game on Friday Get him Going?

San Diego Padres first baseman Ty France had a much-needed big game on Friday night, even if the Padres lost another game on the road in a 9-7 ballgame to the Texas Rangers at Globe Life Field. France went 3-for-4 at the plate with two home runs, a double, and five RBI to raise his season average to .259 and his OPS to .796. His first long ball of the game was a grand slam in the first inning, and he later added a solo blast in the fourth inning, with both of his round-trippers coming off veteran right-hander Jacob deGrom. The 31-year-old veteran first baseman homered for the first time since May 29, and the Padres are hoping that his strong performance in the series opener in Texas will help him turn things around for the rest of June. France entered Friday's action with a rough .132 average (5-for-38) with a double, an RBI, three runs scored, four walks, and 14 strikeouts in 13 games in June. He is now slashing .259/.306/.490 on the year with eight homers, 24 RBI, 17 runs scored, and a steal in his 158 plate appearances in his return to San Diego in 2026. France is rostered in just 1% of Yahoo leagues and has unfortunately been much more useful to the Padres for his glove than his bat.

Padres, Ty France Agree on Minor-League Deal

The San Diego Padres are signing free-agent first baseman Ty France to a minor-league deal with a non-roster invitation to major-league spring training, sources told Dennis Lin of The Athletic. France, 31, will return to the organization that drafted him in the 34th round out of San Diego State University back in 2015. The veteran right-handed-hitting first baseman slashed .257/.320/.360 with a .681 OPS, seven home runs, 52 RBI, and 50 runs scored in 138 games with the Minnesota Twins and Toronto Blue Jays last year, his second straight season with an OPS below .700. He is an above-average defensive first baseman, but he's going to need to improve with the bat to find playing time in San Diego at first base. As things currently stand, Gavin Sheets and Nick Castellanos figure to platoon at first base. France could find at-bats as the designated hitter, but consistent playing time won't be guaranteed in his return to SD.

Ty France Linked to Three Suitors Ahead of Spring Training

Free agent first baseman Ty France remains linked to several clubs on the open market. According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, the veteran infielder could sign in Cleveland, Colorado, or San Diego. The Padres recently added depth outfielder Miguel Andujar, but have shown interest in France. Last summer, France began the campaign with the Minnesota Twins and would eventually spend the back half of the season with the Toronto Blue Jays. With the Twins (101 games), France held a .251/.320/.357 line with a modest .677 OPS. He hit 19 doubles and six home runs. As a Blue Jay, the 31-year-old posted a much higher .277/.320/.360 across a short 31-game look. Managers should view France as a depth corner infielder in 15+ team formats. He would likely be kept in a platoon role to open the season, which would limit his overall fantasy value.

Ty France on Toronto's World Series Roster

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Ty France (oblique) has been included on the team's World Series roster against the Los Angeles Dodgers. France will be on the team's roster for the first time during the playoffs after he was suffered a left-oblique strain late in the regular season. The veteran right-handed hitter will be available for Toronto against the Dodgers, starting on Friday night in Game 1 at the Rogers Centre, but he will be coming off the bench. The 31-year-old veteran began the 2025 season with the Minnesota Twins before joining the Jays. France played in 37 regular-season contests with the Blue Jays and went 26-for-94 (.277) at the plate with only one home run, eight RBI, and nine runs scored in his 103 plate appearances. He is unlikely to make any starts for Toronto in the best-of-seven series against L.A.

Ty France Could Join Blue Jays' World Series Roster

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman Ty France (oblique) participated in the team's intrasquad game on Thursday as he works back from left oblique inflammation. The 31-year-old was acquired from the Minnesota Twins midway through the 2025 regular season but has yet to make an impact during Toronto's deep postseason run. France has been sidelined since September 22 but is considered day-to-day and could return for the upcoming World Series matchup against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Before the injury, France slashed .277/.320/.372 over 37 games with the Blue Jays and will look to contribute in any way possible if he is cleared.

Ty France Could be Activated for Division Series

Toronto Blue Jays first baseman/designated hitter Ty France (oblique) played first base in Thursday's intrasquad game and is eligible to come off the 10-day injured list before the start of the American League Division Series on Saturday against the division-rival New York Yankees, according to Mitch Bannon of The Athletic. France reportedly has made good progress from a late-season oblique injury that landed him on the IL, but he remains on the bubble for the ALDS roster. He has been out since late September with inflammation in his left oblique. If he's activated before Game 1 in Toronto on Saturday, France will be an option for the Blue Jays at the DH spot in the postseason. The 31-year-old veteran began the year with the Minnesota Twins before joining Toronto for 37 games. France hit .277 (26-for-94) in limited time with the team, but it came with only one homer in 103 plate appearances. He had seven total long balls on the year.

Louis Varland, Ty France Traded to Blue Jays

Minnesota Twins reliever Louis Varland and infielder Ty France were traded to the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday. In exchange, the Twins will receive outfielder Alan Roden and left-hander Kendry Rojas. This isn't a blockbuster move, but the Jays will bulk up their depth for a postseason run. This season, France is slashing .251/.320/.357 with six home runs and 44 RBI in 101 games this season. His value will likely take a dip considering he'll probably play a part-time role in Toronto. As for Varland, he has a 2.02 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, and a 47/13 K/BB ratio across 49 innings this season. He'll probably pitch in high-leverage situations, but unlikely to see consistent save chances. Both Roden and Rojas figure to continue playing in the minor leagues with their switch to Minnesota.

Ty France Collects Three Hits

Minnesota Twins first baseman Ty France went 3-for-5 with two singles and a double in his team's 10-4 win against the Athletics. He also scored twice and drove in a pair of runs, marking back-to-back multi-hit efforts for him. The veteran has been excellent in recent weeks, picking up at least one hit in 12 of his last 14 appearances. Over that span, he's an impressive 17-for-53 (.321) with 11 RBI, five runs scored, and two extra-base hits (home run). The hot stretch has brought France's season average up to .269 -- right around where he was before batting .244 in the month of May. If it holds, it'll be his best season line since 2022 when he hit .274 in 140 games.
