Matt Moore Opening Season On Seven-Day Injured List

Boston Red Sox left-handed pitcher Matt Moore (arm) will open the season on the seven-day injured list due to arm soreness. Moore was invited to camp as a non-roster player. Fantasy managers should monitor his status, but the team did not provide a definitive timeline. During camp, Moore tossed just four innings and held a 2:2 BB:K. Last season, the southpaw logged 48 1/3 innings with the Los Angeles Angels and posted a 5.03 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP. He tallied 51 punchouts and served up walks at a high 12.4 percent walk rate. Under the hood, he generated a modest 4.25 xERA with a high 9.2 percent barrel rate. The 35-year-old could eventually earn a relief role in the Boston bullpen if he were to find success with the Worcester Red Sox.

Matt Moore Signs Minors Deal With Red Sox

Free-agent left-handed reliever Matt Moore (forearm) signed a minor-league deal on Thursday with the Boston Red Sox that includes an invite to major-league spring training, according to the New York Post's Jon Heyman. Moore missed the last month of the 2024 season due to a strained left forearm, but he's apparently past the injury and will now compete for a spot in Boston's bullpen out of spring training. The 35-year-old veteran southpaw spent last year with the Los Angeles Angels, where he had a 5.03 ERA (6.17 FIP), a 1.34 WHIP, one save, 41 strikeouts and 26 walks in 48 1/3 relief innings. While Moore should have a pretty good shot at making the team's Opening Day bullpen as a lefty arm if he's healthy this spring, he won't have much fantasy appeal in what would likely be more of a middle-relief role. Moore broke into the big leagues as a starter in 2011 but hasn't started a game since 2021.

Angels, Matt Moore Agree To One-Year Deal Tuesday

The Los Angeles Angels and free-agent relief pitcher Matt Moore agreed to a one-year, $9 million deal Tuesday, per Los Angeles Times' Mike DiGiovanna. The 34-year-old had a solid 2023 season across three teams, including the Angels, going 5-1 with 22 holds, a 2.56 ERA, a 1.16 WHIP, and a 27.5% strikeout rate in 52 2/3 innings pitched. Moore won't offer much fantasy value in conventional leagues due to his lack of saves, but his late-game usage over the past several seasons and strikeout upside make him worth a look in saves-plus-holds leagues.

Marlins Claim Matt Moore Off Waivers From Guardians

The Miami Marlins claimed left-handed reliever Matt Moore off waivers from the Cleveland Guardians on Tuesday, according to sources. The Guardians claimed Moore off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels earlier this month, but now he's on the move again. Moore won't be postseason-eligible if the Marlins end up winning the final wild-card spot in the National League. The 34-year-old veteran southpaw could surely give Miami's bullpen a boost down the stretch, though, as he's gone 4-1 with a 2.77 ERA, 1.15 WHIP and 57 strikeouts in 48 2/3 relief innings this year for the Angels and Guardians. He wasn't as good in his five outings out of the bullpen for the Guardians, allowing two earned runs while striking out eight in 4 2/3 frames.

Reynaldo Lopez, Matt Moore Heading To Cleveland

The Cleveland Guardians claimed relief pitchers Reynaldo Lopez and Matt Moore off waivers from the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday, according to a source. Cleveland also landed starter Lucas Giolito as they try to make up ground in the American League Central -- they're currently five games behind the Twins. The 29-year-old Lopez will move into a late-inning setup role ahead of closer Emmanuel Clase in Cleveland. He's posted a 3.93 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 71 strikeouts in 55 relief innings in 2023 for the Chicago White Sox and Angels. Lopez also has his first six career saves this year. Moore, a 34-year-old left-handed veteran, will give Cleveland even more bullpen depth for the stretch run. He's been great for the Angels this year, sporting a 2.66 ERA, 1.02 WHIP and 49 punchouts in 44 relief innings.

Matt Moore Activated From Injured List

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Matt Moore (oblique) has been activated from the 15-day injured list on Friday. The left-hander has been sidelined since May due to an oblique issue. Before landing on the shelf, he had registered a brilliant 1.44 ERA, 0.80 WHIP and 21/7 K/BB ratio across 25 innings. The 34-year-old is expected to resume his role as a high-leverage reliever out of the Halos bullpen.

Matt Moore Scheduled To Face Hitters Saturday

Los Angeles Angels reliever Matt Moore (oblique) is scheduled to face hitters on Saturday. The 34-year-old appeared in 22 games before going down with an oblique strain in May, amassing a 3-1 record with a 1.44 ERA and 12 holds. But he has been working his way back since then, recently throwing a bullpen session during the week. As long as the left-hander continues to move in the right direction, he should be ready to go immediately after the All-Star break.

Matt Moore Still Dealing With Soreness

Los Angeles Angels reliever Matt Moore (oblique) is still dealing with some soreness in his oblique and won't throw on Sunday, per manager Phil Nevin. Moore has been out since May 28 with a Grade 2 oblique strain and he was initially expected to be activated from the IL this upcoming week. He threw a simulated game on Saturday, which caused the soreness on Sunday. The Angels' skipper said it wasn't necessarily a setback but they're going to monitor Moore over the next 24 hours and see how he feels tomorrow. This throws off Moore's timetable and the Angels will likely be cautious with one of their best bullpen arms. They should provide another update on Monday.

Matt Moore Won't Be Activated On Monday

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Matt Moore (oblique) threw again on Saturday. Unfortunately, he wasn't satisfied with how things went, meaning he won't be activated on Monday. The 34-year-old had played well before going down with a Grade 2 oblique strain at the end of May, amassing a 3-1 record with a 1.44 ERA, 21 strikeouts, and 12 holds. Moore will throw another session and take it from there, so hopefully, his return is right around the corner.

Matt Moore Works A Bullpen Session On Sunday

Los Angeles Angels relief pitcher Matt Moore (oblique) threw a bullpen session on Sunday as he continues to make his way back from a Grade 2 oblique strain. Moore has been on the shelf since May 28 but has slowly been ramping his way back up. Obliques can be tricky but he hasn't suffered a setback yet. Moore was the Angels' most effective reliever before going down so his return would be a boon for the Halos bullpen.
