Ricky Tiedemann Nearing Live Batting Practice

Toronto Blue Jays left-handed pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) has been performing quite well in his bullpen sessions and could be given the green light to participate in live batting practice in the coming weeks. The left-hander is working his way back from Tommy John but is nearing his first taste of game action. During his recent sessions, the top pitching prospect was able to reach 95 mph with his four-seam fastball, which is a great sign. Bannon noted that while an MLB debut this season may not occur, if he continues to progress well without any setbacks, he could make a strong case. During the 2023 season, the No. 4-ranked prospect in Toronto struck out an eye-catching 82 batters across 44 innings, split between Low-A, Double-A, and Triple-A. For now, he is worth monitoring in deeper formats as he could emerge as a late-season stash target.

Ricky Tiedemann Encouraged With His Progress

Toronto Blue Jays left-handed pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) is doing well in his rehab from Tommy John surgery and has been very encouraged with how his elbow and arm are feeling compared to pre-surgery. Tiedemann is targeting games by the end of the 2025 season. The 22-year-old has unique physical gifts and remains one of the better young pitching prospects in the game, but injuries have thrown him off track early in his career. It will be considered a success if he gets back to pitching in games by the end of this year, but the Blue Jays aren't going to rush him along in the process. If he's fully healthy next spring, Tiedemann will be one of the biggest storylines in Blue Jays camp. He can be ignored for obvious reasons in redraft leagues in 2025, but Tiedemann remains a hold candidate in dynasty/keeper leagues.

Ricky Tiedemann To Have Tommy John Surgery

Toronto Blue Jays left-handed pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) will have Tommy John surgery on Tuesday, July 30, according to manager John Schneider. Tiedemann was hoping to avoid having surgery on his left elbow and sought out three separate opinions, but in the end, he couldn't avoid elbow reconstruction. The club's top prospect, per MLB Pipeline, is one of the most talented pitching prospects in all of baseball, but he hasn't been able to stay healthy and will now miss the rest of the 2024 season and most likely all of next year as well. It's a big setback for the 21-year-old southpaw, to say the least. He's going to fall considerably in prospect rankings now after he was a prime candidate to make his major-league debut in 2024 before more arm injuries cropped up earlier this year.

Ricky Tiedemann Heading For Second And Third Opinions

Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann is (elbow) getting second and third opinions on his left elbow this week. Tiedemann is scheduled to make visits to Dr. Keith Meister in Texas and Dr. Neal ElAttrache in California to evaluate his throwing elbow. The Blue Jays should have more information by next week regarding the hurler's injury, but fantasy managers in dynasty leagues should expect Toronto to proceed with an abundant level of caution with their No. 1 prospect. Tiedemann had worked his way back from ulnar nerve inflammation in his left elbow earlier this year, but in his first start back with Triple-A Buffalo, he left with what was described at the time as left forearm tightness. It's becoming less and less likely that we'll see the 21-year-old left-hander make his major-league debut later in 2024.

Ricky Tiedemann Seeking Second Opinion

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (forearm) is seeking a second opinion on his injury in the coming days, according to Keegan Matheson of MLB.com. The top prospect in Toronto left his rehab start on July 10 due to forearm tightness and went for preliminary testing, which did not show any structural damage. However, despite the potentially positive news, the southpaw is seeking a second opinion to see the extent of his injury. The former third-round pick has been sidelined for most of the 2024 season due to a nerve issue in his left elbow. Tiedemann could still contend for a major league debut if he overcomes this injury but should remain stashed in all dynasty and keeper formats as he is considered one of the top pitching prospects in all baseball.

Ricky Tiedemann Experiencing Forearm Tightness

Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (forearm) left his outing on Wednesday with Triple-A Buffalo after one inning due to left forearm tightness. Tiedemann threw 27 pitches before exiting, allowing a run on a hit and three walks with one strikeout. His fastball sat 93.7 mph and topped out at 95 mph. After missing over two months of action with ulnar nerve inflammation in his elbow, Tiedemann reported back to Triple-A on Wednesday but has hit another hitch in the road. The 21-year-old southpaw is Toronto's No. 1 prospect for 2024 and was back on track toward making his major-league debut at some point later this summer, but it's fair to expect the Jays to exercise an abundance of caution here. There's a decent chance he gets shut down from throwing again for some time to get this issue sorted out, and fantasy managers in dynasty leagues need to hang tight until Tiedemann is checked out.

Ricky Tiedemann Pitches Well In Rehab Start

Toronto Blue Jays pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) pitched in his third rehab start for Single-A Dunedin on Wednesday. The lefty tossed 3 2/3 innings and allowed three hits, one run, no walks and six strikeouts. Tiedemann, 21, is the club's top pitching prospect and MLB Pipeline ranks him as the 45th prospect overall. The issue for the young pitcher thus far in his career has been staying healthy as he has never thrown over 78 2/3 innings in a season and that came in his first professional season, 2022. Tiedemann drew a lot of praise this spring and many thought he could break camp with the big-league squad, but injuries continue to hold him back. Tiedemann has thrown the ball very well in three rehab starts and could prove to be an option for the Blue Jays later this summer. For now, he remains a better option in dynasty leagues.

Ricky Tiedemann To Throw Again On Wednesday

Toronto Blue Jays left-handed pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) will make his rehab start on Wednesday in Florida. Tiedemann was dominant in his last rehab outing for Single-A Dunedin last Wednesday, striking out five over 2 1/3 scoreless innings. The 21-year-old southpaw hasn't allowed a run while striking out nine and walking only two in 4 1/3 innings in his last two appearances for Dunedin and appears to be close to being activated from the seven-day injured list to return to Triple-A Buffalo to continue his development. Tiedemann, the team's top pitching prospect, has high-end upside at the next level, but the Blue Jays are going to play it safe with him and continue to build up his arm after he also dealt with an injury last year. It would not be a surprise if he does not make his big-league debut until 2025.

Ricky Tiedemann Sharp In Rehab Outing

Toronto Blue Jays top pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) had a successful rehab outing at Single-A Dunedin on Wednesday. Tiedemann pitched 2 1/3 hitless innings with two walks and five strikeouts. It was another good step for the Blue Jays' top overall prospect, who is progressing from an ulnar nerve injury. Tiedemann is one of the top pitching prospects in the minors and could be getting closer to a major league debut. The left-hander has a plus fastball-slider-changeup mix and once he demonstrates he is removed from his ulnar nerve scare, he could be ready to contribute for the Blue Jays. The 21-year-old is one to monitor closely during his rehab starts.

Ricky Tiedemann Tosses Two Clean Frames In Recent Rehab Appearance

Toronto Blue Jays starting pitching prospect Ricky Tiedemann (elbow) made his second rehab appearance on Thursday evening and is nearing the end of his recovery process from inflammation in his ulnar nerve. Tiedemann made his first appearance in the Florida Complex League on June 14 and recorded only one out with three earned runs and two hits. However, in his most recent outing on Thursday with Single-A, the top prospect in Toronto looked sharp as he tossed two clean innings with four punchouts. The number 38th ranked prospect on MLB Pipeline and second among left-handed pitchers has showcased elite strikeout potential throughout his time in the minors. Last season, he struck out 58 batters in 32 frames at Double-A and 54 in the 37 frames at High-A the year prior. The 21-year-old will most likely be optioned to Triple-A once completing his rehab assignment and should contend for a major league debut in the second half of the season. He should be rostered in all dynasty and keeper formats and could be worth stashing in deeper redraft leagues once he returns to Triple-A.
