Robert Garcia Takes Seventh Loss on Wednesday

Texas Rangers reliever Robert Garcia (1-7) suffered his seventh loss of the season in a 3-2 decision against the New York Yankees on Wednesday. Although the left-hander has been the Rangers' primary choice for saves this season, they brought him in early to pitch the top of the seventh in a 2-2 game. Garcia wasn't up to the task. He surrendered a one-out solo home run to Paul Goldschmidt and later gave up a two-out infield single to Ben Rice before manager Bruce Bochy replaced him with righty Shawn Armstrong. Garcia did collect two strikeouts, but the 29-year-old has now allowed at least one earned run in three straight appearances with two losses and two blown saves over that 1 1/3-inning span. The timing for Garcia is awful with the Rangers having acquired fellow high-leverage reliever Phil Maton at last week's trade deadline. Maton has tallied three straight scoreless appearances as a Ranger, even earning a save in Tuesday's win over the Yankees. He could emerge as Bochy's go-to guy (if he hasn't already) should Garcia's woes continue.

Robert Garcia Blows Save, Exits With Back Injury

Texas Rangers reliever Robert Garcia (back) turned in his second straight poor performance in a 6-4 win over the Seattle Mariners on Saturday. Garcia entered with a 4-2 lead and a chance to close out the Mariners in the bottom of the 10th inning, but the left-hander ended up with his fifth blown save of the year. He allowed two hits, including a game-tying home run by Randy Arozarena, and retired two batters (one strikeout) before leaving with a mid-back spasm. The Rangers went on to win the game, and manager Bruce Bochy said afterward that Garcia should be fine. Garcia, who blew a save and fell to 1-6 with a loss Friday, has surrendered three earned runs on four hits in two-thirds of an inning in his first two appearances since Thursday's trade deadline. The Rangers happened to acquire a pair of high-leverage relievers, righty Phil Maton, and lefty Danny Coulombe, on Thursday. If Garcia doesn't turn it around, Maton, Coulombe, or Shawn Armstrong could start receiving save opportunities. Garcia has converted just nine of his 14 save chances, but he still has a 3.21 ERA with 47 strikeouts against 16 walks in 42 innings.

Robert Garcia Takes Loss on Friday

Texas Rangers reliever Robert Garcia fell to 1-4 on the season as the club dropped a 3-2 decision against the San Diego Padres on Friday. Garcia came in to pitch the bottom of the 10th and intentionally walked Manny Machado to put runners on first and second with nobody out. The left-hander later allowed a single in between two strikeouts to load the bases with two down. Garcia was unable to get out of the jam, as Jake Cronenworth hit a walk-off bloop single to end it. Although Garcia has given up an earned run in back-to-back appearances, he still owns a solid 2.91 ERA with 34:12 K:BB, a 1.21 WHIP, and six saves in 34 innings. The 29-year-old has been part of a closer committee with Luke Jackson, whose most recent save opportunity came on June 15.

Robert Garcia Earns Third Save Of Season Tuesday

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Robert Garcia earned his third save of the season in Tuesday's 2-0 win over the Blue Jays. Garcia came in to pitch the top of the ninth inning up by two and shut the door with a 1-2-3 performance, including two strikeouts. Luke Jackson, who leads the team in saves, pitched the eighth inning with the score tied 0-0. Garcia has pitched well this season, converting three of four save opportunities with 10 holds to go with a 2.35 ERA, a 1.00 WHIP, and an 8.22 K/9 rate in 23 innings of work. The Rangers have implemented four different relievers in save situations over the last 15 days, and Garcia is tied for the most opportunities in that time with three. The team appears to be in flux when it comes to determining a potential closer, but Garcia has the sturdiest peripherals, making him worth considering for fantasy managers in deeper roto leagues.

Robert Garcia Records First Save

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Robert Garcia earned his first save of the year on Thursday in a 5-3 win over the Angels. He struck out one as part of a scoreless ninth inning where he didn't allow any baserunners. Luke Jackson was unavailable after pitching the past two days, which is what opened up the opportunity for Garcia. He's been very effective to start the season, allowing only two runs in his nine innings pitched with eight strikeouts and three walks. While he won't get enough saves to be relevant in standard leagues, he is a very valuable reliever wherever holds matter.

Robert Garcia Tosses Shutout Frame In Spring Debut

Texas Rangers left-handed pitcher Robert Garcia (forearm) tossed a shutout frame during his spring debut on Thursday against the San Diego Padres. Garcia allowed one free pass and tallied one punchout. Garcia was battling nerve irritation in his left forearm during the early part of spring training. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his production during camp as he is expected to compete for a high-leverage role in the bullpen. Earlier in the offseason, the Rangers acquired Garcia from the Nationals in exchange for first baseman Nathaniel Lowe. Last season, Garcia posted a 4.22 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP with 75 punchouts. He generated an elite 2.53 xERA, suggesting he should see significant positive regression in 2025. He will be competing for save opportunities alongside right-hander Chris Martin.

Robert Garcia To Make Cactus League Debut On Monday

Texas Rangers left-handed pitcher Robert Garcia (forearm) is expected to make his Cactus League debut on Monday. The 28-year-old has battled irritation in his left forearm during the start of camp but has progressed enough to see his first game action. Fantasy managers should monitor his status in case he faces a setback during his debut. Earlier in the offseason, the Rangers acquired Garcia from the Washington Nationals in exchange for first baseman Nathaniel Lowe. Last season, the 28-year-old logged a career-high 59 2/3 innings with the Nationals. He held a 4.22 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP. However, he generated a strong 2.53 xERA with a .207 xBA, which suggests that he should see significant positive regression when he returns to the bump. If he performs well in camp, he could contend for save opportunities.

Robert Garcia Facing Hitters On Thursday

Texas Rangers left-handed pitcher Robert Garcia (forearm) is set to face live hitters on Thursday. The 28-year-old has been dealing with irritation in his left forearm and has been behind schedule during camp. Garcia has been throwing bullpen sessions and will now look to progress to the next step in his recovery process. If Garcia is able to perform well in this session, he could be nearing his spring training debut. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his progression. Last season, the 28-year-old logged a career-high 59 2/3 innings with the Washington Nationals. He held a 4.22 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP. Garcia tallied 75 strikeouts and generated an elite 2.53 xERA, which suggests he should face significant positive regression when he returns to the bump. Fantasy managers should expect Garcia to compete for a high-leverage role in the Texas bullpen.

Robert Garcia Completes Side Session

Texas Rangers relief pitcher Robert Garcia (forearm) completed a bullpen session on Tuesday. The 28-year-old has been dealing with forearm irritation during the early part of spring training and has been slightly behind the other pitchers. However, seeing him return to the mound earlier on Tuesday is a positive sign for his status. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status in case he faces a setback. Earlier in the offseason, the Rangers acquired Garcia from the Washington Nationals in exchange for first baseman Nathaniel Lowe. Last summer, Garcia posted a 4.22 ERA and a 1.22 WHIP across 59 2/3 innings. He struck out 75 batters and served up 16 free passes. Under the hood, he generated a stellar 2.53 xERA and a 30.2 percent hard-hit rate, placing him in the 97th percentile. When healthy, Garcia will compete for a high-leverage role in the Texas bullpen.

Robert Garcia Set To Throw Bullpen On Tuesday

According to Kennedi Landry of MLB.com, Texas Rangers relief pitcher Robert Garcia (forearm) will throw a bullpen on Tuesday. The 28-year-old has been sidelined since the start of camp due to nerve irritation in his forearm. Fantasy managers should monitor his status on Tuesday after his bullpen in case he faces a setback. Earlier in the offseason, Garcia was traded to Texas from Washington in exchange for first baseman Nathaniel Lowe. Last summer in Washington, Garcia served as a high-leverage option out of the bullpen. He tossed 59 2/3 innings and held a 4.22 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP. He tallied 75 punchouts. He also generated a stellar 2.53 xERA which suggests he should face some significant positive regression during the 2025 campaign. If healthy on Opening Day, Garcia should slot in as high-leverage option in the bullpen.
