Sean Reid-Foley Clears Waivers

New York Mets right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley cleared waivers. The Mets placed Reid-Foley on waivers earlier this week and will now begin his 2025 campaign with Triple-A Syracuse. Last season, Reid-Foley logged 21 2/3 innings with the Mets and held a strong 1.66 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP. He tallied 25 punchouts but showed weak command of his pitches as he served up walks with a 15.6 percent rate. Reid-Foley generated an elite 62.7 percent ground-ball rate with a stellar .198 xBA. Across 131 2/3 career innings in the majors, the former second-round selection has held a 4.10 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP. Reid-Foley will likely get the call to the majors when the Mets need additional depth in their bullpen later in the season.

Sean Reid-Foley Placed On Waivers

The New York Mets have placed right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley on waivers. Reid-Foley signed a one-year contract with the Mets earlier in the offseason to avoid arbitration. Last season, the 29-year-old was enjoying a strong start to his 2024 campaign as he held a 1.66 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP through 21 2/3 innings. He tallied 25 punchouts and generated a stellar .198 xBA. However, his season was eventually cut short by a shoulder injury in late June. During his lone appearance in spring training, his velocity was down, which raised some concern. This transaction now opens a spot on the 40-man roster. If Reid-Foley can continue to show improvement before the regular season, he could draw interest as a middle reliever on waivers. Through 131 2/3 career innings in the majors, the right-hander has held a 4.10 ERA with a 1.50 WHIP.

Sean Reid-Foley Expected To Make Opening Day Roster

New York Mets right-handed pitcher Sean Reid-Foley (shoulder) is expected to make the Opening Day roster. The 29-year-old is recovering from a right shoulder impingement. However, Anthony DiComo of MLB.com expects the reliever to have a spot on the 40-man roster if he continues his steady progression. Last season, the right-hander posted a stellar 1.66 ERA with a 1.25 WHIP across 21 2/3 innings. He tallied 25 punchouts but showed weak command of his pitches as he served up walks at a high 15.6 percent rate. However, Reid-Foley was able to generate ground balls at an elite 62.7 percent rate which was well above the average marks. Fantasy managers should monitor his status during camp. If he can make an appearance in spring training, he should be in a good position to start the season in the major leagues. He will likely compete for a high-leverage role in the bullpen.

Sean Reid-Foley Inks Extension With New York

According to SNY, relief pitcher Sean Reid-Foley and the New York Mets have agreed on a one-year deal to avoid arbitration. The 29-year-old logged only 21 2/3 innings in Queens last season as he battled numerous injuries all summer. During this small stint, he posted a strong 1.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with a stellar 27.8% K rate. In addition, he boasted a 62.7% ground ball rate and a 1.98 xBA. This past summer, Reid-Foley typically pitched in the seventh and eighth innings, and fantasy managers should expect him to return to that similar role in 2025. With Edwin Diaz expected to see the vast majority of save opportunities, fantasy managers in holds leagues should still consider drafting Reid-Foley as he could become the bona fide set-up man on a competing Mets team.

Sean Reid-Foley Unlikely To Return This Year

The Athletic's Tim Britton writes that it's looking unlikely that New York Mets right-hander Sean Reid-Foley (shoulder) will be able to return this year. Reid-Foley has been out since June with a right-shoulder impingement. He was attempting to make a return in early August but was laboring with his command during a minor-league rehab assignment and was shut down two weeks ago to allow him to build up strength in his shoulder. The fact that Reid-Foley hasn't resumed throwing makes it all but official that he won't make it back in the final month of the season in September. The 29-year-old has already missed more than 60 days and could be moved to the 60-day injured list if the Mets need more roster space. Reid-Foley pitched well in 23 appearances out of the bullpen earlier this year before his injury, allowing four unearned runs, although he also walked 14 and struck out 25 in 21 2/3 innings.

Sean Reid-Foley Nearing A Return

New York Mets right-hander Sean Reid-Foley (shoulder) walked three of the five batters he faced in his minor-league rehab outing for Double-A Binghamton on Sunday, throwing 25 pitches while recording a strikeout. Reid-Foley was set to check in with the team's medical staff in New York on Monday before being dispatched on another rehab outing later in the week. Manager Carlos Mendoza said that Reid-Foley's readiness to return to the big-league club will partly depend on his performance with Binghamton. "We want to see how the ball is coming out of his hand and how he's going to bounce back," Mendoza said. "We're going to need him when he gets here to go back-to-back [days] and one-plus [innings]." The 28-year-old had an impressive 1.66 ERA and 1.25 WHIP with 25 K's but also 14 walks in 21 2/3 innings of relief for the Mets before suffering a right-shoulder impingement.

Sean Reid-Foley Tracking To Make Opening Day Roster

New York Mets relief pitcher Sean Reid-Foley (arm fatigue), who hasn't appeared in a Grapefruit League game since March 9 due to arm fatigue, threw a bullpen session Tuesday. The 28-year-old touched the mid-90s with his velocity. He expects to return to game action before the end of the week. Reid-Foley has had a strong spring, throwing four scoreless innings with a 0.25 WHIP and seven strikeouts. He should be a strong candidate to make the Opening Day roster if he is healthy. While the Mets' rotation depth may be lacking, their bullpen is rather deep with late-inning roles already determined. As such, Reid-Foley does not offer much fantasy value at this time.

Mets Re-Sign Tommy Hunter, Sean Reid-Foley

The New York Mets re-signed right-handed relievers Tommy Hunter and Sean Reid-Foley to minor-league deals on Tuesday. Both pitchers have been with the team the last two seasons, but they both missed significant time due to injuries. Hunter, 36, threw only 22 1/3 innings in 2022, but he had a solid 2.42 ERA (4.28 FIP), a 1.21 WHIP and 22 strikeouts in 18 relief appearances. Reid-Foley, 27, allowed six earned runs on seven hits while walking seven and striking out eight in just 10 relief innings for the Mets last season. In five big-league seasons, he has a 4.66 ERA (4.93 FIP), a 1.56 WHIP and 110 strikeouts in 102 1/3 innings pitched. Hunter and Reid-Foley will give the Mets relief depth yet again in 2023.

Sean Reid-Foley Placed On Injured List With Partial UCL Tear

New York Mets relief pitcher Sean Reid-Foley (elbow) has been diagnosed with a partial UCL tear in his right elbow. He was placed on the 10-day injured list on Sunday. The team hasn't revealed what the plans are for Reid-Foley, but he is expect to miss a big chunk of time, potentially the rest of the season. Tommy John surgery is one of the potential options for him. Fellow right-handed pitcher Yoan Lopez was called up to fill Reid-Foley's roster spot.

Sean Reid-Foley Exits Saturday's Game Early

New York Mets pitcher Sean Reid-Foley (leg) exited Saturday's loss to the Arizona Diamondbacks early with leg cramps. He allowed two hits and two walks while striking out one over 2 2/3 scoreless innings before leaving. This season, the 31-year-old has pitched primarily out of the bullpen, posting a 4.91 ERA, 1.36 WHIP, and six strikeouts over 7 1/3 innings in 2022. Reid-Foley is day-to-day and is not expected to miss much time, but isn't worth rostering in most league formats.
