Tink Hence News
St. Louis Cardinals pitching prospect Tink Hence has adjusted positively in his second go-around for Double-A Springfield. Over his first three starts, he has a pristine 1.17 ERA in 15 1/3 innings. He has also struck out 17 batters with just two walks on the season. Hence, 21, split time in 2023 between High-A Peoria and Springfield, but struggled in Springfield with a 5.47 ERA in 12 starts versus a 2.81 ERA for Peoria. Hence offers good velocity on his fastball that registers in the mid-90s to go along with a nice changeup and slider. Hence has shown the ability to be a very productive pitcher, but durability remains a concern in the long-term with Hence never throwing more than 100 innings in a season or 82 pitches in a single game. If Hence can improve his stamina, he has the future makings of a MLB starter, but if he continues to have durability issues, Hence would be best suited as a relief pitcher. He remains an intriguing option for dynasty managers to monitor.
St. Louis Cardinals top pitching prospect Tink Hence has been promoted from High-A Peoria to Double-A Springfield on Saturday, according to a source. Hence was drafted in 2020 and ranks No. 63 overall on Keith Law's 2023 prospect rankings. MLB Pipeline as him ranked as St. Louis' No. 2 prospect behind shortstop Masyn Winn. The 20-year-old right-hander earned the promotion by going 2-1 with a 2.81 ERA, 1.10 WHIP, 12 walks and 46 strikeouts in 41 2/3 frames over 11 starts for Peoria. He also missed almost a month earlier this year with chest/oblique tightness. Hence was one of the best all-around pitchers in the minors in 2022 and he has a bright future, but it's probably unrealistic to expect him to make his big-league debut until next year, even with the Cardinals sitting in last place in the National League Central.
Cardinals pitching prospect Tink Hence made his first start of the 2023 season with the High-A Peoria Chiefs. He went four innings deep, striking out six batters and allowing just one hit. The 20-year-old was lights out in 2022, with a 1.59 FIP and a 41.5% K rate in 52 Low-A innings. Hence mixes an elite mid-90s fastball with a plus curveball, changeup, and slider to create one of the best arsenals in the minors. The Arkansas native is one of the best prospects in the dynasty format because of his ace-level upside.
