The New York Yankees have acquired left-handed reliever Caleb Ferguson from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for fellow southpaw reliever Matt Gage and right-handed prospect Christian Zazueta. Ferguson returned from Tommy John surgery in 2022 to toss a spectacular 1.82 ERA before working to a solid 3.43 ERA across 68 appearances in the 2023 season. Interestingly, his 2023 results were identical to his 3.43 career ERA in 201 appearances (14 starts), all of which have come with the Dodgers. The Yankees recently claimed Gage off waivers from the Houston Astros after he posted a 2.70 ERA in 5 outings with the team in 2023 while also posting a 4.58 ERA at Triple-A Sugar Land in 34 appearances. Zazueta, 19, posted a 3.29 ERA in 12 outings with the Yankees' Dominican Summer League Affiliate in 2023.
Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Caleb Ferguson is serving as the team's opener on Tuesday for the first game of their doubleheader against the Colorado Rockies at Coors Field. After Ferguson goes a few innings, right-hander Ryan Pepiot is expected to enter as the bulk reliever. The 27-year-old Ferguson isn't a recommended fantasy streamer, as it would be a surprise to see him go more than an inning in this one. The left-handed reliever has had a fine year for the Dodgers this year, though, going 7-3 with a 2.47 ERA, 1.34 WHIP, three saves and 67 strikeouts in 58 1/3 innings over 65 appearances (six starts). In his six starts in 2023, Ferguson has allowed two earned runs while striking out five in just six innings of work.
Los Angeles Dodgers left-hander Caleb Ferguson will serve as the team's opener on Friday against the division-rival San Francisco Giants, with lefty Ryan Yarbrough expected to be the bulk reliever behind him, according to manager Dave Roberts. Ferguson has been solid for the Blue this year, going 7-3 with a 2.56 ERA, 1.37 WHIP, three saves and 66 strikeouts in 56 1/3 innings over 63 appearances (five starts) this year, but he's not going to go deep enough to give fantasy managers a chance at a win against San Fran. In his five starts, Ferguson allowed two earned runs while walking one and striking out five in just five innings.
The Los Angeles Dodgers placed left-hander Caleb Ferguson on the paternity list on Tuesday and recalled pitcher Justin Bruihl from the minors in a corresponding move. Ferguson is leaving the team temporarily to be with his wife for the birth of their first child. Meanwhile, Bruihl will give the Dodgers some relief depth over the next two days of the series against the Milwaukee Brewers. The 26-year-old Ferguson should be back with the club for the start of another crucial three-game series against the division-rival San Diego Padres on Friday. He's been a key bullpen piece for LA so far this year, recording a stingy 1.26 ERA (2.65 FIP), 0.84 WHIP, three walks and 14 strikeouts in 14 1/3 relief innings.
Los Angeles Dodgers left-handed pitcher Caleb Ferguson(elbow) is done for the remainder of the 2020 season and likely most of 2021 as well. Ferguson will undergo the second Tommy John surgery of his career next week in response to the results of his latest MRI on his pitching elbow. Ferguson had developed into a crucial cog of the Dodgers bullpen this season, posting a 2.89 ERA and 1.02 WHIP while amassing 13 strikeouts per nine innings. Still just 24 years old, there is considerable time for Ferguson to return to the mound and come back healthy, although he likely holds no fantasy intrigue until the start of the 2022 year, assuming all goes well on the comeback trail.
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Caleb Ferguson (elbow) has been placed on the injured list and is set to undergo an MRI on his elbow. Ferguson suffered the injury while pitching in the eighth inning of Tuesday's game. He was taken out of the game as the team took a look at him. Ferguson has had a great year as a setup man for the Dodgers, posting a 2.89 ERA and 1.018 WHIP while averaging 13 strikeouts per nine innings and earning five holds. The team will have to lean more heavily on Jake McGee, Brusdar Graterol and Pedro Baez while Ferguson is sidelined.
The Los Angeles Dodgers will tab Caleb Ferguson as their starter for Game 2 of a doubleheader against the Giants. Ferguson has been nearly hitless in 13 games out of the bullpen this year and most likely will be acting as an opener. Ferguson is unlikely to go deep in the ballgame and should be avoided in DFS. The lefty owns a 0.71 ERA, 0.63 WHIP with four holds and could be a valuable bullpen asset in all formats.
Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Caleb Ferguson will serve as the opener for Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays. Ross Stripling was expected to be scratched from this outing, but will actually come in out of the bullpen behind Ferguson. Stripling should be able to pitch around four or five innings in this one. However, DFS players should still probably look elsewhere for a reliable option since Stripling could be limited.
The Los Angeles Dodgers activated relief pitcher Joe Kelly from the bereavement list on Monday, and they optioned reliever Caleb Ferguson to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Kelly allowed runs in five of his first six appearances to start the season, as his ERA was an unsightly 12.27. However, he has managed just six runs over his past 11 appearances to slowly work it down to 7.79. Kelly still has a long way to go before he is fantasy-worthy again, even in deeper NL-only formats. Ferguson hasn't been much better, posting a 5.94 ERA in 17 appearances in 2019.
Los Angeles Dodgers relief pitcher Caleb Ferguson will get the start on Saturday against the Brewers in what will be a bullpen game. The Dodgers will attempt to get by in Hyun-Jin Ryu's rotation spot. Ferguson will essentially be the closer and will probably only go a few innings at the most. The left-hander hasn't allowed a run with eight strikeouts in 6 1/3 relief outings so far in 2019, but he won't be on the fantasy radar in his opener role on Saturday.
