The 25-year-old lefty tossed 6 innings, allowing three hits and three walks with eight strikeouts. Lodolo has garnered a good deal of fantasy hype and had an encouraging rookie season, going 4-7 with a 3.66 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, and 29.7% strikeout rate in 19 starts. He has followed that up with a great spring, posting a 1.93 ERA through four starts. Cincinnati Reds southpaw Nick Lodolo is expected to serve as the team's No. 2 starter in 2023. Manager David Bell slated Lodolo to start in the second game of the regular season against the Pittsburgh Pirates. A recent graduate of the Reds system, Lodolo was the organization's No. 1-ranked prospect in 2021. He quickly sped through four levels before reaching the pros in 2022. The 25-year-old made 19 starts and composed a 3.66 ERA (3.90 FIP) with 131 strikeouts in the big leagues. After the All-Star break in 2022, Cincinnati Reds lefty Nick Lodolo pushed himself into a conversation that his draft status when he came into the league had assumed he would become an ace someday. Lodolo amassed 1.7 fWAR in the second half, equal to Corbin Burnes, Sandy Alcantara, and more than Gerrit Cole. Among qualified starters, the southpaw posted a top-10 strikeout rate (30%) while also keeping the ball on the ground at a 47.2% rate, the sort of combination that is required for success at Great American Ball Park. Lodolo did all of his relying heavily on a three-pitch blend of his four-seam fastball, sinker, and his slider. The 24-year-old's slider graded out as one of the best in baseball in the second half. Hence, the combination was obviously effective, and he should be ready to take the next step toward becoming a frontline starter in 2023. Lodolo is coming off the board between the 35th and 40th starting pitcher, so he's a tremendous value right now in drafts.
