Eugenio Suarez Not Drawing Interest on Open Market?

Free agent third baseman Eugenio Suarez's market isn't very strong, according to a report from Jim Bowden of The Athletic. He says that Boston and Pittsburgh make the most sense for Suarez, but at the moment, teams haven't done anything more than kick the tires on him. When speaking with a league source, Bowden asked why a non-contender wouldn't try to sign Suarez and trade him at the deadline in July. He was told that Suarez barely fetched any sort of return when he was traded from the Diamondbacks to the Mariners amidst a 49-homer campaign last summer, and given the lack of interest in the third baseman this offseason, it's unlikely that any contender would be willing to acquire him for a significant prospect haul in the summer of 2026. To put it simply, teams are hesitant to sign Suarez, even though he slugged 49 home runs last year. The power is indisputable, but he's not a major on-base threat, and last year's 7.0% walk rate and 29.8% strikeout rate are both concerning. Furthermore, he played average-at-best defense, contributing -0.7 fWAR in the field and -3 OAA. We may see Suarez garner a little more interest as spring training gets closer and teams finalize their rosters, but as it stands, his options in free agency are limited. The 34-year-old currently ranks as the #8 third baseman in RotoBaller's latest fantasy baseball draft rankings, and he'll likely rise or fall a couple of slots once he signs somewhere.

Boston to Increase Pursuit of Eugenio Suarez?

According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Boston Red Sox are a team that could make a push for top free-agent third baseman Eugenio Suarez. Saurez has been linked to the Red Sox throughout the winter, and following the signings of Kyle Tucker, Alex Bregman, Bo Bichette, and Cody Bellinger, the third baseman is likely the top bat available. According to Feinsand, the Red Sox were pursuing both Bregman and Bichette before they signed their respective contracts. The 34-year-old would take on an everyday role at the hot corner in Boston and would shift young infielder Marcelo Mayer back to the middle of the infield, where he spent most of his minor league career. Last summer, Suarez enjoyed a resurgent campaign, hitting 49 home runs with a .228 AVG and an .824 OPS. Surez would carry a mid-range starting third base value in all formats if he were to join the Red Sox.

Red Sox Make "Very Little Traction" in Pursuit of Eugenio Suarez

According to Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com, the Boston Red Sox made "very little traction" with top free agent third baseman Eugenio Suarez over the past week. The Red Sox heavily pursued third baseman Alex Bregman before he signed a contract with the Cubs. With Bregman and infielder Bo Bichette off the board, the Red Sox were expected to turn their attention to Suarez. However, it appears that both sides have made little progress toward a potential contract. Suarez turned in a massive bounce-back season in 2025, launching 49 home runs with a .228/.298/.526 line. This was a significant jump from the 30 home runs he hit the year prior. Currently, the Red Sox are expected to rely on young infielder Marcelo Mayer at the hot corner if they are unable to agree to terms with Suarez.

Are the Red Sox Still Pursuing Eugenio Suarez?

According to Sean McAdam and Chris Cotillo of MassLive, the Boston Red Sox are still rumored to have interest in veteran third baseman Eugenio Suarez following Alex Bregman's signing with the Chicago Cubs on Saturday. Boston previously showed interest in Suarez earlier in the offseason but opted to wait in hopes of landing infielders Ketel Marte or Jorge Polanco. Throughout the winter, the Red Sox viewed Suarez largely as a fallback option and did not seriously engage with his camp until Bregman left. In 2025, Suarez crushed 49 home runs but hit only .228 with a lackluster .298 on-base percentage. While the 34-year-old continues to barrel the ball 14.3% of the time, he has become a below-average defender and still strikes out at a near 30% rate. From a fantasy standpoint, Boston would be an ideal landing spot, thanks to the Green Monster and the other hitter-friendly parks within the American League East. However, with Father Time undefeated, it may only be a matter of time before Suarez's elevated strikeout rate begins to overshadow his power production.

Pirates Expressing Interest in Eugenio Suarez

According to Jason Mackey of The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Pirates have expressed interest in signing third baseman Eugenio Suarez. According to Mackey, the team was initially interested in signing third baseman Kazuma Okamoto, but he inked a contract with Toronto over the weekend. As a result, the Pirates will now shift their attention to the 34-year-old slugger. Last summer, Suarez enjoyed a massive bounce-back season, launching 49 long balls with a .228/.298/.526 slash line. He generated an elite 14.3% barrel rate but holds a high 33.3% whiff rate and 29.8% K rate, which lowers his value in points leagues. If Suarez were to agree to terms with the Pirates, he would join an improving Pittsburgh lineup that welcomed second baseman Brandon Lowe and designated hitter Ryan O'Hearn earlier this winter.

Mariners Still Interested in Re-Signing Eugenio Suarez

The Seattle Mariners remain interested in re-signing free-agent third baseman Eugenio Suarez, according to Mariners general manager Justin Hollander, who spoke on MLB Network Radio. Last season, Su rez tied his career high with 49 home runs, 13 of which came as a Mariner. Seattle's top offseason priorities were re-signing first baseman Josh Naylor and infielder Jorge Polanco, but with both now off the market, attention has shifted back to Su rez. Despite maintaining a 14.3% barrel rate, Su rez has become a below-average defender and continues to strike out nearly 30% of the time. The 34-year-old slugger is projected to earn a two-year, $45 million contract. With an ADP of 112, it appears the market believes he has another productive season in him. Although that is very possible, the strikeouts are a concern, and hitting at T-Mobile Park isn't helping him if he ends up back in Seattle. Unless he slips significantly on draft day, he may be someone to pass on, especially with the Giants' Matt Chapman going about 60 picks later.

Eugenio Suarez Reuniting With Mariners

The Seattle Mariners have agreed to acquire third baseman Eugenio Suarez from the Arizona Diamondbacks, Jeff Passan of ESPN reports. First baseman Tyler Locklear and right-handed pitching prospects Hunter Cranton and Juan Burgos are going to Arizona, according to Daniel Kramer of MLB.com. This is a massive pickup for the Mariners, who have remade their corner infield in a pair of trades with the Diamondbacks over the past week. They previously acquired first baseman Josh Naylor from Arizona. He's once again teammates with Suarez, who earned his second All-Star nod this season and has slashed .248/.320/.576 with 36 homers, 87 RBI, and 64 runs scored in 437 plate appearances. The 34-year-old has already performed well in the past in Seattle, where he played from 2022-23, and should be a huge offensive upgrade at third over Ben Williamson. With Suarez and catcher Cal Raleigh, Seattle now has two elite power hitters who have combined to smash 77 homers this year. With Suarez gone, Blaze Alexander could now take over at third in Arizona. Suarez's departure could also create an opportunity for former sixth overall pick Jordan Lawlar (hamstring) if he's able to return from a hamstring injury.

Astros Interested in Carlos Correa, Nolan Arenado, Eugenio Suarez

On the eve of Thursday's trade deadline, the Houston Astros are showing interest in Minnesota Twins shortstop Carlos Correa, St. Louis Cardinals third baseman Nolan Arenado, and Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez, Bob Nightengale of USA Today reports. The most interesting possibility here may be Correa, who began his career in Houston and flourished as a member of the team. Correa, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2012 draft, debuted with the Astros in 2015. He played with the club through 2021 and took home Rookie of the Year honors, made two All-Star teams, and won a World Series in their uniform before signing with the Twins in free agency. He's now in the fourth season of a six-year, $200 million contract, which looks pricey considering his output in 2025. Correa has batted a pedestrian .267/.319/.386 with seven homers, 31 RBI, and 40 runs scored in his age-30 campaign, and he hasn't gone yard in any of his 20 games this month. Correa has a full no-trade clause, but he still lives in Houston in the offseason and would waive it to return there, according to Nightengale. With that said, the Astros do have an established shortstop in Jeremy Pena (ribs), who should return from the 10-day injured list soon after missing over a month with a small rib fracture. Correa and Pena have exclusively played short in the majors, so the Astros would have to find a way to make that work. It seems likely that Correa would take over at third with Isaac Paredes (hamstring) out for the foreseeable future with a hamstring injury.

Eugenio Suarez Back in Lineup Wednesday

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez (finger) is returning to the lineup on Wednesday against Detroit Tigers right-hander Chris Paddack. He'll bat cleanup and serve as the designated hitter. Suarez had an injury scare on Monday when he took a fastball off the right index finger, but X-rays came back negative, and he ended up missing just one game. This could be the final game in an Arizona uniform for Suarez, who is likely to end up on the move before Thursday's trade deadline. The 34-year-old has drawn interest from several contenders during what has been a prolific season. Fresh off his second All-Star Game appearance, Suarez has slashed .248/.321/.577 with 36 homers, a league-leading 87 RBI, and 64 runs scored in 433 plate appearances.

Eugenio Suarez Absent From Tuesday's Lineup

Arizona Diamondbacks third baseman Eugenio Suarez (finger) is not in the team's starting lineup for Tuesday's contest against the hosting Detroit Tigers at Comerica Park. Although X-rays came back negative on Suarez's right index finger after he was hit by a pitch in Monday's loss to Detroit, it's not that big of a surprise that the D-backs are playing it safe with one of the top available bats at this year's trade deadline. Fantasy managers should consider the 34-year-old right-handed slugger to be day-to-day and check back to see if he's available to play on Wednesday. It would not be a big surprise if we don't see Suarez back in the lineup until the July 31 trade deadline on Thursday, though. Blaze Alexander is starting at third and batting ninth on Tuesday against Tigers right-hander Casey Mize. Alexander could be the team's everyday third baseman if/when Suarez is traded this week. UPDATE: A CT scan and MRI exam both came back negative on Suarez's injured finger on Tuesday.
