Eugenio Suarez Back in Reds Lineup on Tuesday

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez (wrist) is starting at third base and will bat cleanup for the Reds in Tuesday's contest against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers and right-hander Brandon Sproat at American Family Field, per MLB.com. Suarez was hit by a pitch on his left wrist on Sunday and was held out of Monday's series opener against Milwaukee as a precaution. The 34-year-old Venezuelan corner infielder will now return to Cincy's starting nine as he looks to snap out of his funk at the plate. He's hitting just .185 (15-for-81) with four home runs, four doubles, 14 RBI, five runs scored, four walks, and 32 strikeouts in 22 games in June. The two-time All-Star hasn't really been good all year in his return to the Reds in 2026, slashing .208/.276/.376 on the season with a career-worst .652 OPS, eight home runs, 29 RBI, 18 runs scored, and a career-worst 33.2% strikeout rate. Suarez is rostered in 70% of Yahoo leagues, but his .195 xBA and .261 xwOBA don't exactly give fantasy managers hope that the veteran slugger will turn things around in his 13th year in the league.

Eugenio Suarez Out With Wrist Injury on Monday

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez (wrist) is out of the team's starting lineup for Monday's series opener on the road against the division-rival Milwaukee Brewers due to a wrist injury, according to MLB.com. Sal Stewart will man the hot corner and bat second, with Spencer Steer starting at first and batting third versus Brewers left-hander Robert Gasser. Suarez was pulled from Sunday's loss to the division-rival Pittsburgh Pirates early when he was hit by a pitch on his left wrist in the sixth inning. Thankfully, X-rays and a CT scan on the 34-year-old veteran's wrist came back clean, which has the Reds optimistic that he'll be back during the series this week against the Brewers. The 34-year-old Venezuelan has struggled in his return to the Reds in 2026, hitting just .208/.276/.376 with a career-low .652 OPS, eight home runs, 29 RBI, 18 runs scored, and a career-high 33.2% strikeout rate in 217 plate appearances. He has really struggled in 22 games in June, going 15-for-81 (.185) with four homers, four doubles, 14 RBI, five runs, four walks, and 32 strikeouts. The strikeouts continue to pile up, making fantasy managers wonder if Suarez is even worth the power at this point in his career.

Eugenio Suarez Exits Early on Sunday After Being Hit By Pitch, X-Rays Inconclusive

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez (hand/wrist) exited early from his team's loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates on Sunday after being hit by a pitch in the hand/wrist area. X-rays for Suarez were inconclusive, and the team will send him for a scan on Monday, per Charlie Goldsmith of FOX 19. It's been a rough season so far for Suarez, who is hitting .208/.276/.376 with eight home runs, 29 RBI, and 18 runs scored across 217 plate appearances. The 34-year-old's strikeout rate currently sits at a career-worst 33.2%, and his 7.2% barrel rate is his lowest since 2017. While the exact nature of Saurez's injury remains unclear, he could be headed for a trip to the injured list if further testing on his hand/wrist shows structural damage. If Suarez misses time, Reds first baseman Nathaniel Lowe and outfielder/third baseman Noelvi Marte would likely see the largest increases in playing time.

Eugenio Suarez Homers Twice, Drives in Six on Monday Against Mets

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez could be turning a corner after going 2-for-4 with two home runs, a season-high six RBI, and two strikeouts in the 12-0 blowout victory over the visiting New York Mets at Great American Ballpark on Monday night. The 34-year-old Venezuelan right-handed power hitter has struggled in 2026, slashing .222/.287/.395 with a .682 OPS, seven home runs, 25 RBI, 16 runs scored, and a career-high 31.5% strikeout rate in his 178 plate appearances in his return to Cincinnati. Suarez has always been a high-strikeout hitter with lots of swing and miss in his game, but he's also in just the ninth percentile in hard-hit rate in 2026, so when he is making contact, he's not hitting the ball as hard as he typically does. The two-time All-Star had a two-run homer and a grand slam on Monday against New York for his first multi-homer game of the year. In his last six games, Suarez has gone 8-for-24 (.333) with three homers, two doubles, nine RBI, three runs, no walks, and eight strikeouts. The strikeouts aren't going to go away, but he could be in the midst of a nice hot streak.

Reds Activate Eugenio Suarez From the Injured List on Friday

The Cincinnati Reds announced on Friday that they activated infielder Eugenio Suarez (oblique) from the 10-day injured list and placed infielder Ke'Bryan Hayes (back) on the 10-day IL (retroactive to May 21) in a corresponding move with a lumbar bulging disc. Suarez is back after missing a month with a left-oblique strain, but he'll have to wait to play on Saturday after the game against the division-rival St. Louis Cardinals on Friday was postponed due to inclement weather. Now that he's back, Suarez should play regularly for the Reds between third base and designated hitter. He appeared in just two minor-league rehab games, going 1-for-7 at the plate with a double. The 34-year-old Venezuelan infielder/DH has struck out 30% of the time again in 2026 while hitting .231 (21-for-91) with three home runs, 11 RBI, and 10 runs scored across his 25 games played before his oblique injury. Suarez can be useful for his power from the right side of the plate in a hitter-friendly home environment, but he's not going to help your team's average or on-base percentage. He's currently rostered in 87% of Yahoo leagues.

Eugenio Suarez Expected to Start a Rehab Assignment on Wednesday

Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona said that third baseman Eugenio Suarez (oblique) is expected to start a minor-league rehab assignment on Wednesday, according to Charlie Goldsmith of FOX 19. Suarez has taken his time in his recovery from a strained left oblique, but if he can avoid any setbacks on his rehab assignment, he could be reinstated and rejoin the Reds starting lineup as early as this weekend. Once the 34-year-old right-handed slugger returns to the big-league roster, both Ke'Bryan Hayes and Nathaniel Lowe could lose out on playing time at third base and designated hitter, respectively. Suarez, a two-time All-Star and 13-year veteran, was hitting .231/.300/.363 with a .663 OPS, three home runs, 11 RBI, and 10 runs scored in 25 games played at the time of his injury. He isn't going to provide much in the way of batting average or on-base percentage, but Suarez still has value because of his power in mixed fantasy leagues, and he's currently rostered in 87% of Yahoo leagues.

Eugenio Suarez Taking On-Field Batting Practice on Friday

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez (oblique) is taking batting practice on the field on Friday for the first time since going on the 10-day injured list with a left oblique injury late last month, according to Charlie Goldsmith of FOX 19. Suarez's MRI exam, which was scheduled for Thursday, apparently gave the Reds some good news, so he has advanced in his baseball activities entering the weekend. Still, the Reds are slow-playing the right-handed power hitter, and Suarez will likely need to go on at least a short minor-league rehab assignment before he returns to action in the majors. Barring a setback with his oblique now that he's swinging full speed, Suarez should be back well in advance of the start of June. When Suarez is back in Cincy in the everyday lineup, it could be bad news for both Nathaniel Lowe and Ke'Bryan Hayes. The 34-year-old Suarez won't be an asset in fantasy in the average department, but he still has enough thump left in his lumber to be worth holding for his power production, especially at hitter-friendly Great American Ballpark. If you need power and Suarez was dropped, scoop him up now. He's currently rostered in 88% of Yahoo leagues.

Eugenio Suarez Closing in on Rehab Assignment

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez (oblique) will resume hitting on Tuesday, and his next MRI exam has been moved up to Thursday, according to Charlie Clifford of NBC 5 Cincinnati. The plan is to have him travel on the upcoming road trip and ramp up his baseball activities from there, according to manager Terry Francona. After that, a minor-league rehab assignment is likely. Suarez is ramping back up from a strained left oblique that landed him on the 10-day injured list late last month. Barring a setback once he starts ramping up, Suarez should be able to rejoin Cincy's starting lineup before the end of May. The 34-year-old veteran power hitter should be scooped up immediately and stashed if he's available on your league's waiver wire. He's currently rostered in 88% of Yahoo leagues, and although he swings and misses too often to help your batting average, he still has plenty of pop in his bat. Suarez was hitting .231 (21-for-91) with three homers, 11 RBI, and 10 runs scored in 25 games for the Reds at the time of his injury. He has six 30-plus homer seasons in his 12-plus MLB campaigns.

Eugenio Suarez Slowly Ramping Up From Oblique Injury

Cincinnati Reds third baseman Eugenio Suarez's oblique injury is around 50% better, according to FOX 19's Charlie Goldsmith. He took 50 swings on Thursday and will now cool it down for the next few days. Goldsmith mentions that Suarez's injury is one that you have to be patient with. The veteran right-handed slugger is dealing with a left-oblique strain and isn't exactly close to returning to the major-league roster after being placed on the 10-day injured list. The 34-year-old Venezuelan infielder is still 89% rostered in Yahoo leagues, though, for his power stroke in a hitter-friendly home ballpark in Cincy. The two-time All-Star tied a career high with 49 home runs while driving in a career-high 118 runs in 159 games last year with the Reds and Seattle Mariners. Before his oblique injury this year, Suarez was hitting .231 (21-for-91) with three homers, 11 RBI, and 10 runs scored in 25 games. Suarez won't boost your batting average, but the 13-year veteran is still capable of being a power- and run-producing asset in mixed fantasy leagues when he's healthy and playing every day. Left-handed-hitting first baseman Nathaniel Lowe should continue to benefit from regular playing time in Cincy between first and designated hitter with Suarez on the shelf.

Eugenio Suarez Does Some Baseball Activities on Monday

Cincinnati Reds manager Terry Francona said that third baseman Eugenio Suarez (oblique) was scheduled to take grounders on the field on Monday and flips in the cage, according to Charlie Goldsmith of FOX 19. Suarez will get an MRI exam in Cincinnati coming up. If the Reds like what they see from Suarez's MRI later this week, the 34-year-old veteran could be cleared to go on a minor-league rehab assignment. He's currently on the 10-day injured list with a left-oblique strain, and the Reds are bringing the right-handed slugger along slowly. The Venezuelan third baseman has had at least 30 home runs and 101 RBI in each of his last two seasons, and he tied his career-high with 49 long balls in 2025 with the Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners in 159 total games. Suarez swings and misses plenty, though, so he will not help your batting average. In 25 games in his return to Cincy this year, Suarez has hit .231 (21-for-91) with three home runs, 11 RBI, and 10 runs scored. Barring a setback, Suarez should return to the Reds by mid-May.
