Trey Gibson Officially Called Up and Starting on Wednesday

The Baltimore Orioles announced that they officially recalled right-handed pitching prospect Trey Gibson from Triple-A Norfolk, and he will make the start on Wednesday against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays at Camden Yards. In a corresponding move, the team optioned left-hander Nick Raquet to Norfolk. Gibson, the O's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, made his major-league debut earlier this year and allowed four earned runs on seven hits (two home runs) while walking three and striking out four in 6 2/3 innings over just two appearances (one start). The 24-year-old former undrafted free agent out of Liberty University is most likely just making a spot start and will be sent back to Norfolk after Wednesday, so fantasy managers in single-year leagues and in DFS can ignore him against the first-place Rays. Gibson also hasn't gone more than five innings in any of his outings this year, including in the minors.

Orioles No. 4 Prospect Trey Gibson in the Mix to Earn MLB Promotion?

Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitching prospect Trey Gibson, the team's No. 4 prospect per MLB Pipeline, is with the team on the taxi squad on Tuesday and could be ready to make his big-league debut, according to Jake Rill of MLB.com. The O's have their starter for Wednesday's series finale against the division-rival Tampa Bay Rays listed as TBA, so Gibson could make that start. The 24-year-old made his major-league debut earlier this season and allowed four earned runs on seven hits (two homers) while walking three and striking out four in 6 2/3 innings pitched in just two outings (one start). If Gibson ends up making his second career start for Baltimore this week, fantasy managers searching for a streamer should avoid him against the first-place Rays at Camden Yards. He's a power pitcher at 6-foot-5 and 240 pounds, and he's gone 2-4 at Triple-A Norfolk in eight starts (31 2/3 frames) while posting a 3.69 ERA, 1.67 WHIP, and 32:18 K:BB. Gibson is not rostered in any Yahoo leagues and could be heading right back to Norfolk on Thursday if he makes a spot start on Wednesday.

Trey Gibson Set to Make MLB Debut with Orioles on Sunday

Baltimore Orioles manager Craig Albernaz said that pitching prospect Trey Gibson will get the start on Sunday against the New York Yankees, per Jacob Calvin Meyer of The Baltimore Sun. It will be the MLB debut for the 23-year-old Gibson, who is ranked as Baltimore's best pitching prospect by MLB Pipeline. Across 24 2/3 innings (six starts) with Triple-A Norfolk so far this season, Gibson is 2-2 with a 4.01 ERA, 1.62 WHIP, and 25 strikeouts. His K-BB rate is an unimpressive 11.4% in a small sample this year, but he posted a stellar 23.7% K-BB rate across 120 1/3 minor league innings in 2025. With Orioles starters Trevor Rogers (illness) and Dean Kremer (quad) both currently on the 15-day injured list, Gibson should have a runway to prove himself in the majors and could be worth targeting off the waiver wire in deeper fantasy leagues.

Trey Gibson Joining Orioles Taxi Squad

Baltimore Orioles right-handed pitching prospect Trey Gibson is joining the team's taxi squad during their series in New York this weekend against the Yankees, but it's still to be determined if he will join the active roster, sources told Andy Kostka of The Baltimore Banner. If activated, Gibson will be making his major-league debut. Per MLB Pipeline, Gibson is the team's No. 3 overall prospect. The 23-year-old former undrafted free agent has gone 2-2 at Triple-A Norfolk this year with a 4.01 ERA and 1.62 WHIP with 25 strikeouts and 12 walks in 24 2/3 innings pitched over his six starts. Gibson could be named the Orioles' starter for Sunday's series finale in the Bronx, which would be a pretty dicey spot for fantasy managers to roll the dice on him in what would be his MLB debut. The 6-foot-5, 240-pounder is a power pitcher who has been improving his walk rates in the minors. Gibson has the stuff to generate whiffs and the ceiling of a mid-rotation starter in the big leagues.

Trey Gibson Promoted to Triple-A, Strikes Out Six in First Start

Baltimore Orioles pitching prospect Trey Gibson was promoted to Triple-A Norfolk on Tuesday and made his first start for the Tides on Wednesday. The Orioles' 12th-ranked prospect was impressive in his first outing, tossing five innings of one-hit ball, not allowing a walk or a run scored while striking out six batters. It was the right-hander's fourth straight start without allowing an earned run, lowering his season-long ERA to 2.91 with a 0.98 WHIP and tallying 141 strikeouts in 96 innings pitched (13.22 K/9, 27.9 percent K-BB%). If the 6-foot-5 hurler can show well at Triple-A, look for him to debut in the majors next season, and with good strikeout stuff, he's worth keeping an eye on. However, if the command dips, then there is some reliever risk with Gibson, which could diminish his potential fantasy value.
