Xander Bogaerts Reinstated and Starting on Tuesday

The San Diego Padres announced that they reinstated infielder Xander Bogaerts (foot) from the 10-day injured list on Tuesday and optioned infielder Will Wagner to the Arizona Complex League in a corresponding move. Bogaerts is making the start at shortstop and is batting second in his return to the starting lineup for Tuesday's game against the visiting Milwaukee Brewers and left-hander Bruce Zimmermann. The 32-year-old will make his return from a fractured foot as the Padres look to get him some at-bats in the final week of the regular season before the playoffs begin early next week. Bogaerts will be playing in his first big-league game since Aug. 27, so fantasy managers setting DFS lineups should probably look to fade him, especially since he has hit .182 with a .523 OPS in 11 career at-bats against Zimmermann.

Xander Bogaerts Won't be Activated on Monday

San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts (foot) is not expected to be activated in time for Monday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. The Padres were hopeful they'd get Bogaerts back for the series opener. Sadly, it looks like Bogaerts will need at least another day to get ready to play. He was able to go through his pregame workout without any issues on Monday. The Padres have just elected to give him another day to rest and get healthy. Jose Iglesias will cover shortstop and bat eighth versus right-hander Freddy Peralta. Fantasy managers should check back on Tuesday to see if Bogaerts is back.

Xander Bogaerts Expected to be Activated on Monday

San Diego Padres infielder Xander Bogaerts (foot) was scheduled to do an on-field workout on Friday. Sadly, that session was rained out, so Bogaerts return to the field will be pushed back slightly. Now, the plan is for Bogaerts to be activated from the injured list ahead of Monday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers. He'll continue to workout with the team, but the Padres are going to wait a few more days before bringing Bogaerts back into the mix. This season, Bogaerts is slashing .262/.330/.387 with 10 home runs, 49 RBI, and 20 steals in 131 games. He should be able to give fantasy managers in the playoffs a boost down the stretch.

Xander Bogaerts Could Return This Weekend

San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts (foot) worked out at the team's spring training facility in Arizona the last couple of days and could come off the 10-day injured list to rejoin the team this weekend for a series in Chicago against the White Sox, according to manager Mike Shildt. Bogaerts has been running, fielding, and hitting against live pitching in recent days and hasn't suffered any setbacks. It looks like he could return to the big-league roster without going on a minor-league rehab assignment. The 32-year-old veteran has been out since late August with a non-displaced fracture in his left foot. He should return to regular starting duties at shortstop in San Diego when he's ready, allowing Jake Cronenworth to shift back to second and Luis Arraez back to first base/designated hitter duties. In his third year in SD, Bogaerts is hitting .262/.330/.387 with only 10 homers, 49 RBI, and a career-high 20 steals in 131 games.

Xander Bogaerts Targeting a Return During Final Week of Regular Season

San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts (foot), who is recovering from a left foot non-displaced fracture, is targeting a return during the final week of the regular season, according to MLB.com. Bogaerts was able to take ground balls, track pitches from live arms, and swing in the cage on Saturday, and is getting closer to continuing his rehab in Arizona, according to manager Mike Shildt. The 32-year-old veteran isn't going to help fantasy managers from here on out, but he should be back with the Padres if they get into the postseason in October. He was placed on the 10-day injured list back on Aug. 29 after fouling a ball off his left foot on Aug. 27. Lately, the Friars have moved Jake Cronenworth from second to shortstop, although Jose Iglesias and Mason McCoy are also options at the 6 if SD wants to prioritize defense over offense.

Xander Bogaerts Targeting Late-Season Return

San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts (foot) has resumed light baseball activities and hopes to come off the 10-day injured list for the final week of the regular season. Bogaerts has been out for almost two weeks after fouling a ball off his left foot and suffering a non-displaced fracture on Aug. 27. Over 131 games and 534 plate appearances this season, the 32-year-old has hit a decent .262/.330/.387 with 10 homers, 49 RBI, 60 runs scored, and 20 stolen bases. The Padres, who hold a wild-card spot and trail the NL West-leading Los Angeles Dodgers by two games, have mostly turned to Jose Iglesias to handle short in Bogaerts' absence.

Xander Bogaerts Suffers Foot Fracture, Set to Hit Injured List

San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts (foot) has suffered a non-displaced fracture in his left foot and is expected to go on the injured list, according to Kevin Acee of The San Diego Union-Tribune. A foul ball struck the 32-year-old in his left foot during Wednesday's contest. However, Bogaerts has suffered a serious injury and is in danger of missing an extended period. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status over the final month of the regular season. Bogaerts has had an everyday role in the San Diego starting nine this season, posting a .262/.330/.387 with 10 home runs and 20 stolen bases. While Bogaerts is held out of action, fantasy managers should expect veteran Jose Iglesias to see most of the opportunities at shortstop.

Xander Bogaerts Playing on Saturday

San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts (hamstring) is in the starting lineup ahead of Saturday's game against the Texas Rangers. His status for this game was uncertain coming in after Bogaerts suffered a hamstring injury late during Friday's contest. Clearly, it wasn't a big issue as Bogaerts is back in the lineup without missing any time. He'll cover shortstop and bat fifth versus left-hander Patrick Corbin on Saturday. Bogaerts hasn't been great with the bat this season, but is heating up over the last week. Fantasy managers should make sure to get him into their lineups.

Xander Bogaerts Exits with Apparent Hamstring Injury

San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts (hamstring) left the team's 3-2 win over the Texas Rangers on Friday with an apparent right-hamstring injury, AJ Cassavell of MLB.com reports. The Padres pinch-hit Bryce Johnson for Bogaerts in a bases-loaded situation in the bottom of the 10th inning. Johnson struck out, but the Padres went on to win on a Jake Cronenworth walk-off single. Bogaerts finished 0-for-4 with two strikeouts and is now hitting .255/.329/.364 with five homers, 30 RBI, 36 runs, and 13 stolen bases in 343 plate appearances. Until now, this has been a healthy season for Bogaerts. He battled a shoulder injury last year and sat out 51 games.

Xander Bogaerts Back in Lineup on Friday

San Diego Padres shortstop Xander Bogaerts (shoulder) is back in the starting lineup for Friday's series opener in Cincinnati against the Reds and right-hander Nick Martinez, playing shortstop and batting sixth. Bogaerts was scratched from the series finale on Wednesday against the Washington Nationals with left-shoulder soreness, but he's feeling better after a scheduled day off on Thursday. While the 32-year-old continues to be very mediocre overall on offense, he has hit .385 with a 1.082 OPS, one home run and two RBI in 13 career at-bats against Martinez, a former Padre. In 22 games in June, Bogaerts has been slightly better, hitting .259/.319/.365 with a home run, six doubles, eight RBI, 10 runs scored, two stolen bases and an 11:8 K:BB in 94 plate appearances. The four-time All-Star's diminishing power is no secret, but he does already had 13 steals in 78 games.
