According to Daniel Alvarez-Montes, Marlins right-handed pitcher Xzavion Curry has cleared waivers and been outrighted to Triple-A. Curry was also given an invite to spring training. Curry was designated for assignment earlier this week and is now expected to open the campaign with Triple-A Jacksonville. Last summer, the 26-year-old posted a 4.64 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP across 42 2/3 innings. While Curry showed stellar command with a 4.1 percent walk rate, he struggled to generate strikeouts as he tallied them at a poor 16.3 percent rate. He also generated a weak 5.07 xERA, which was well below the average marks. Curry may eventually earn the call back to the majors later in the season but should not be targeted in any fantasy formats as he will begin the season in the minor leagues.
According to the team, the Miami Marlins have designated right-handed pitcher Xzavion Curry for assignment. In a corresponding move, the Marlins claimed Ronny Henriquez off waivers from the Minnesota Twins. Last season, Curry spent time with the Cleveland Guardians and Marlins. Across 42 2/3 innings, Curry posted a 4.64 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP. He tallied just 28 punchouts but showed elite command with a 4.1 percent walk rate. With his 18-inning stint with Miami, Curry was very impressive, posting a 3.00 ERA with a 0.61 WHIP. Across 113 2/3 career frames at the Triple-A level, the Georgia Tech product has posted a hefty 5.86 ERA with a 1.44 WHIP. Given his success in the majors last season, Curry could draw interest as a low-leverage relief pitcher on waivers.
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Xzavion Curry was recalled from Triple-A Columbus to make a spot start on Tuesday against the visiting New York Mets after the team placed right-hander Carlos Carrasco (neck) on the 15-day injured list. Curry may not be a very attractive streamer in fantasy on Tuesday, but he did toss five scoreless innings with one walk and three strikeouts in a no-decision in his only start of the year for the Guardians on April 15 against the Boston Red Sox at Fenway Park. The 25-year-old has gone 0-5 with an 8.79 ERA and 1.81 WHIP with 14 walks and 27 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings over seven outings (six starts) for Columbus, though, which explains why he'll be an extremely volatile deep-league streamer on Tuesday despite the good matchup. If Curry pitches well on Tuesday, he could stick around in Cleveland's rotation until Carrasco returns.
Xzavion Curry Set For Fifth Start Of The Season Friday
Cleveland Guardians right-hander Xzavion Curry is getting the ball on Friday, taking on Aaron Civale and the Tampa Bay Rays. The 25-year-old has pitched mostly out of the pen this season but has made four starts, all coming since July 17. Across 64 innings of work, Curry's posted a 2.95 ERA and 1.16 WHIP but has recorded just 45 strikeouts. He's only gone more than three innings in one of his starts this year, and he doesn't offer enough anyways to be a factor in most fantasy formats.
Cleveland Guardians pitcher Xzavion Curry will be on the big-league roster in a bullpen role to start the season. Hunter Gaddis will be taking over Triston McKenzie's (shoulder) rotation spot, which will allow Curry to slot into Gaddis' bullpen spot. The 24-year-old finished the spring with a 6.00 ERA in seven outings (one start). Curry has not had particularly gaudy numbers in his time in the Minor Leagues and will have little fantasy value, as he should not hold a high-leverage role.
The Cleveland Guardians selected the contract of starting pitcher Xzavion Curry on Monday. One of the organization's top pitching prospects, Curry has split the season between Double-A and Triple-A this season, throwing 101 innings. In those 101 innings of work, the right-hander has pitched to a 3.48 ERA, 113 strikeouts, and just 30 walks allowed. Most recently, Curry turned in a 3.09 ERA and a 4.07 FIP in six starts spanning 32 innings at Triple-A.
