Yimi Garcia to Undergo Season-Ending Surgery

Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Yimi Garcia (elbow) will undergo season-ending surgery to clean up scar tissue around his right elbow. He recently received a second opinion on his elbow and has decided to go the surgery route. Garcia has reportedly been dealing with elbow issues since around the All-Star break. The loss of Garcia is certainly a blow to the back-end of the Jays' bullpen. He'll finish the season with a 3.86 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and a 25/12 K/BB ratio across 22 games. The organization believes Garica will be ready in time for spring training next season.

Yimi Garcia to Resume Throwing Soon

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia (ankle, elbow) should resume throwing in about a week, manager John Schneider said. Garcia went on the 15-day injured list with a sprained left ankle on July 5. Since then, a more serious issue - nerve symptoms in his elbow - cropped up and forced the Blue Jays to shut Garcia down from throwing. Garcia recently underwent a cortisone injection, and Toronto is hopeful that he'll return to its bullpen in late August. This has been an injury-riddled season for Garcia, who spent about six weeks on the shelf earlier in the year with a shoulder impingement. The 34-year-old has still made 22 appearances and put up a 3.86 ERA with a 1.19 WHIP, 25:12 K:BB, six holds, and three saves in 21 innings. If he comes back healthy, Garcia could be an important late-season reinforcement for a Toronto team vying for an AL East title.

Yimi Garcia Shut Down from Throwing

Toronto Blue Jays relief pitcher Yimi Garcia (elbow) has been shut down from throwing for the next two weeks, according to Jays' manager John Schneider. Garcia recently experienced nerve symptoms in his elbow while rehabbing an ankle injury. He received a cortisone injection in his elbow, so he'll need to give it some time to rest. He'll be re-evaluated after the two weeks and will hopefully be able to resume his rehab work. Hopefully, Garcia can be back in the Toronto bullpen by the end of August. He's not someone that needs to be rostered in fantasy formats right now.

Yimi Garcia, Paxton Schultz Progress to Bullpen Sessions

Toronto Blue Jays relievers Yimi Garcia (ankle) and Paxton Schultz (finger) threw bullpen sessions in Toronto on Friday, according to Sportsnet's Ben Nicholson-Smith. Garcia returned from a shoulder injury that cost him over a month in early July but only made one appearance before spraining his ankle and going back on the 15-day injured list. The veteran right-hander has pitched to a 3.86 ERA and 1.19 WHIP with 25 strikeouts and three saves in 21 innings. Schultz is currently on the 15-day IL with a finger issue and last pitched on June 28. The 27-year-old has thrown 23 2/23 innings for Toronto this season with a 4.56 ERA, 1.44 WHIP, and 27 strikeouts. Since both Garcia and Schultz are back to throwing, it seems likely that neither will remain out much past the All-Star break.

Yimi Garcia Placed on 15-Day injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed reliever Yimi Garcia (ankle) on the 15-day injured list with a sprained left ankle. The team recalled right-hander Robinson Pina from Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. This continues an injury-plagued year for Garcia, who just returned from a long stay on the IL this week.. He missed the final week of May and all of June because of a shoulder impingement. Garcia returned on Wednesday to allow two earned runs over one inning in an 11-9 win over the New York Yankees. The 34-year-old righty has logged 21 frames this season and pitched to a 3.86 ERA with 25 strikeouts, 12 walks, six holds, and three saves.

Yimi Garcia Reinstated From Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays announced on Wednesday that they reinstated right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia (shoulder) from the 15-day injured list and optioned left-hander Mason Fluharty to Triple-A Buffalo in a corresponding move. While Jeff Hoffman will remain Toronto's primary closer, Garcia should be the team's primary high-leverage, late-inning setup man now that he's back with the big-league club. Before injuring his right shoulder, the 34-year-old veteran Dominican had a 3.15 ERA (2.99 FIP), a 1.05 WHIP, three saves and a 24:10 K:BB in 20 innings out of the bullpen. In addition to his three saves, he's picked up six holds and will be very valuable in fantasy formats that award points for holds. If anything were to happen to Hoffman, Garcia would likely step into primary closing duties for the Jays.

Yimi Garcia Starting Rehab Assignment on Monday

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia (shoulder) is expected to start a minor-league rehab assignment and pitch in the rookie-level Florida Complex League on Monday, according to MLB.com. Garcia went on the 15-day injured list on May 24 with a right-shoulder impingement, but he's getting close to returning to Toronto's bullpen and could be back in the big leagues by late June. If Garcia is able to avoid setbacks with his shoulder this week, he could come off the IL by later this week or this weekend. When he's back in the big leagues, the 34-year-old Dominican reliever should be a key late-inning, high-leverage bullpen arm for the Jays while also seeing an occasional save chance. Before getting hurt, Garcia had a 3.15 ERA (2.97 FIP), a 1.05 WHIP, three saves, 24 strikeouts and 10 walks in 20 innings pitched. He's definitely valuable in holds leagues when healthy.

Yimi Garcia to Throw Live Batting Practice on Thursday

Toronto Blue Jays right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia (shoulder) threw a bullpen session in Florida on Monday and is scheduled for a live batting practice session on Thursday, according to Sportsnet's Arden Zwelling. Garcia will face live hitters this week after initially resuming a throwing program on June 6 as he works his way back from a right-shoulder impingement that landed him on the 15-day injured list on May 24. When he returns, the 34-year-old Dominican veteran will settle back into a high-leverage setup role at the back end of Toronto's bullpen while also seeing the occasional save chance. Before his shoulder injury, Garcia had a 3.15 ERA and 1.05 WHIP with three saves, 24 strikeouts and 10 walks in 20 relief innings in his return to Canada. Garcia has 29 career saves in 11 big-league seasons and will be valuable in holds leagues.

Yimi Garcia Plays Catch on Flat Ground

Toronto Blue Jays manager John Schneider said that right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia (shoulder) played catch on flat ground on Tuesday. Garcia is throwing for the first time since receiving a cortisone injection in his right shoulder last Monday. Until the 34-year-old resumes throwing off a mound, we won't have a clear timetable for his return from the 15-day injured list from a right-shoulder impingement. Although the Jays aren't too concerned about closer Jeff Hoffman's struggles this year at the back end of the bullpen, Garcia should remain a high-leverage arm for Toronto when he's cleared to return. Before getting injured, he had three saves, a 3.15 ERA, 1.05 WHIP, 24 strikeouts and 10 walks in 20 relief innings with the Jays. Barring a setback as he continues to ramp up his arm, Garcia should have a chance to return to the big-league bullpen in June.

Yimi Garcia Placed on 15-Day Injured List

The Toronto Blue Jays are placing right-handed pitcher Yimi Garcia (shoulder) on the 15-day injured list. In a corresponding move, the Blue Jays are promoting right-handed pitcher Paxton Schultz from Triple-A Buffalo. Garcia has not appeared in a game since May 22. Fantasy managers should continue to monitor his status as Garcia could be sidelined longer than the 15-day minimum. Through his first 20 innings of work this season, Garcia has been a reliable high-leverage option for Toronto, logging a 3.15 ERA with a 1.05 WHIP. Garcia has tallied three saves and added six holds. Under the hood, he has generated a modest 4.04 xERA with a .246 xBA, which places him in the 44th and 54th percentiles, respectively. While he remains sidelined, Jeff Hoffman should remain the primary closer while Chad Green operates as the typical setup option.
